If this leak was a Wizards operation, what are the consequences when they acknowledge what they did? What will their explanation be?

Legal discussion aside, marketing is a complex business and Wizards has every reason to be against anything that undermines their marketing campaign.

Have we gotten an explanation why 4 decks instead of 5? If it's because the product wasn't designed on schedule, that isn't a surprise given recent organizational troubles at Wizards. But maybe it really is 5 and they're just messing with us? Maybe the 5th deck is an UN-deck? Maybe the 5th deck is a surprise release a little while later?

I say popular does not equal iconic. My sense is that routine creature types aren't likely, Elves, Goblins, etc.

I'm curious what Dominaria is like these days. I haven't read the book series since they were new, but between Invasion, Onslaught, and Time Spiral blocks, who's still alive and what business is still unresolved?

Maybe Kiora is on Ixalan. Alternatively, maybe Kiora sucks and isn't going to be used anymore.

I don't agree with the spoiler. Spoiler season is better or one-shots.

I don't think this thread is going to be a good HOD thread. I think starting a new one and not filling it with whines and nonsense would serve the forum better.

Mentioned in this thread, Slivers and Eldrazi are clever. Never done 5-color or 0-color decks. But don't people hate Eldrazi now?

  • posted a message on Popular and Intersting Tribes (Not "Iconic")
Since the Commander 2017 announcement focuses on tribal, some of the obvious candidates are Elves, Merfolk, Goblins, Zombies (only 4 decks, not based on the color wheel). Interestingly, the tribes were described as "popular and interesting". This is vague enough to suggest that they won't get the iconic tribes, but something else. Furthermore, 4 decks suggests that not every deck will be mono-colored.

    Snakes, G/u/b
    Birds, U/W/g
    Spirits, W/B/u
    Clerics, W/B
    Knights, W/B
    Warriors, MARDU
    Minotaurs, B/R
    Vampires, B/R
    Wizards, U/w/r
    Humans, WUBRG

  • posted a message on Well, so much for Goryo's Expertise being a thing... (Rules change on split cards)
I have been playing Magic for decades and I think that split cards are cool, but I've always thought that allowing split cards to have simultaneous characteristics like names and cmcs was very clunky. I've never exploited this in competitive play, so I don't mourn the loss. I did understand the rules, but it doesn't make sense that you can cascade into a split card, the put it on the stack and select the fat side. However, I've always appreciated pitching Fire // Ice to Force of Will.

To the statistics people, write a new algorithm to better reflect the 'true' cmc of the split card.

It says you can search your hand for the card too. Get 6 creatures in the grave but can't play the card yet, but still need to invest at least 5 mana? No way to cheat the effect either in the first couple of turns. It must be difficult or impossible to cast, or it might be a new card type. With the expertise cycle, it probably isn't a 0cc card, and it won't be the first standalone emblem card because those live in the Command Zone.

This card might be strong or an alt-win condition.

One thing to keep in mind is that the next Modern Masters set is available to include Theros and Tarkir blocks.

Found this thread through Google, thinking about the new Zombie Angel token in Amonkhet.

Vorel of the Hull Clade is a Human Merfolk. Shambleshark is a Fish Crab. Brisela, Voice of Nightmares is an Eldrazi Angel. Malfegor is a Demon Dragon.

I want to see a Dragon Angel, Human Dragon, Snake Hydra Zombie

    Maybe like a Cat Wurm?

Red gets a threat and outright murders most creatures and planeswalkers on turn 5. It's non-legendary, so back to back is pretty strong, and survives -3/-3.
