~Ranz, Talon of the Realm
Ya know given it's extremely obscure tribe, and the fact that there is a whole... 6 of them, unless we add in changelings, which brings it to a whole 14, that is actually a completely fine card.
~Magehunter Behemoth
Since we're talking about a magehunter, and the name of the ability is SPELLfeed, I'm wondering why it isn't non-creature spells.
And into the semi-obscure tribe genre, I had gotten into a debate with my friend about what kind of lord would look and probably be absolutely broken but not for the tribe it was intended. We were originally looking at Knight Exemplar, and I had said there were plenty of other ways to make mass Knight buffs that would still not even get Knights on an LGS's radar. This is eventually what I came up with.
So, for my local playgroup, we had all decided that "Ya know what? EDH is fun, but we keep seeing commanders come and go, going for the same style of deck... what can we do about this?"
So, we had decided to have a hat draw of sorts. We took the names of all the different commanders that we either had never seen before, or had simply not seen in a while and thought that they were pretty funny, and when we pulled our general's names, the group decided what would qualify as "Been there, done that."
So, when I drew Oona, Queen of the Fae, I knew that I certainly wasn't going to be playing an uber-control Ad-Nauseasm combo deck. Which truth be told, I wasn't too fond of Ad Nauseasm anyway. Little did I remember that Aggro//Voltron were still completely on the table.
So, I looked in my (meager) binder for cards that would fit into my game plan, and ya know what I realized? It's actually looking viable. Not "Tier 1 go to Star City and Roflstomp everyone", but it looks like it could probably fit in with our regular EDH decks. We're pretty casual, with the occasionally competitive streak, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for help on finishing and rounding out the deck, to make it as much the colors its really not, with just a slight chance of decking them. My ultimate goal is to be swinging with 6/6 (or preferrably bigger) Faerie tokens, and then proceed to point at laugh at the G/R deck that's still trying to catch up. Right now I have a list that is too big (102 cards, excluding general), and I will need help//suggestions for cards to take out, and any suggestions of additions would preferrably have what cards I should take out for them, and preferably keep the suggestions under 10$ a card, unless they are just EDH staples that I should already have in here.
Obviously, that can't be anywhere near a final list. The first few cards that came to my mind to be cut were, with reasons included: Sphinx of Magosi:
It's a possible Throne target, and it goes well with Standstill, but it's expensive, and a target.
Stolen Identity:
This is more one of the cards that I put in because I was looking for a repeatable clone, or at least another "Hey your dude is huge//does stuff gimmie gimmie". Doesn't really synergize well, but too foily to cut until I see someone else telling me "Dude that's just bad."
Phthisis:
It's as much a running joke as it is actual removal, it's rather slow, and could quite easily be replaced by the removal of your choice. The running joke is, that one of the store's workers was trying to pronounce it, and came up with "Puh-thesis".
Standstill:
I originally put this on the list because I had thought, "Hey, If no one wants to play spells on their turns, I can just dump mana into Oona." Then I realized how many sorceries of my own I'd want to play. It's iffy.
Soul Ransom:
Eeeeeeeh it's in here mostly for the shinism. I gotta protect my status in the group as King of the Magpies, and in case someone plays a creature combo.
For me, I'm contractually obligated to speak up against any kind of slur.
(I'm in the Navy, and I have to speak out against it.)
Though, back before I couldn't lose my job because of it, the situation would dictate the course of action.
If I was out my usual haunt for Magic, then I would say "Dude, you know that there are people out here who find that offensive, right?"
If I was just at a friends house, then that would have to be even more specific.
I have a friend who is as far-right, 2nd amendment as can be, and he's also my most african-american. He and I regularly say "muh ******", amongst other racial slurs, in jest.
I also have a friend who is the exact opposite; a far-left, liberal, feminist lesbian, who jumps at the slightest hint of being a slur against LBGT. So, with her, I have to watch every, single, syllable that comes out of my mouth.
So, back THEN, it was situational. Now? I have to speak up every time.

I usually end up with "Bro", "dude", "Brah", "guuuurl" (to those who I really know), and almost every single variation on "bro" possible.
If I don't know you, it's "Sir", or "Ma'am". And if they're Trans, then if they tell me I switch to whatever their gender is.

Archangel of Thune: I'm pretty sure there's a reason he's some big dollars, and Fiendslayer Paladin gets to come along for the ride of lifegain. Path of Bravery does some life gain, (maybe not as much as Thragtusk or Huntsmaster, but they're getting le boot.) Bow of Nylea is lifegain on a stick, amongst other fun things, and it has synergy with Chronicler of Heroes. I have enough hexproof to probably get an Unflinching Courage, and against a B/R matchup Fiendslayer might as well be hexproof too.
So, post rotation, there will be (in my opinion) an abundance of life gain to be had. What I was thinking was, why not Voracious Wurm? He's cute, cuddly, and can be downright mean. So, I decided to see what sort of a deck I could make, based on him. Then, I remembered seeing 'Bow of Nylea'. MAN that is one amazing card. So, since I haven't been in standard for... well, since the Mirrodin-Dark Ascension to RTR rotation, I knew I was going to need some help. So, if you guys could tell me which cards are absolute crap and which aren't, that'd be great. And ya know, the ORIGINAL sillyness I had planned was Turn 1: Temple Garden, Elvish Mystic, pass. Turn 2: Tablet of the Guilds, Selesnya Guildgate, pass. Turn 3: Plains, play Heroes' Reunion, gain 9 life, play Voracious Wurm, gain a life. 12/12 Voracious Wurm on turn 3, anyone? Except, Heroes Reunion seemed like it would only do good in that specific a situation.
So, after hearing almost the entire group complain, whine, and otherwise gripe and moan about Uril, The Mistalker (which is hilarious, considering that we have 2 Sliver Overlord EDH decks...) I decided that I was going to show them something to really gripe about... That, and I need an excuse to pull out my foil Lord of Extinction. Seriously, one of my favorite cards of all time, was just sitting there in my binder forever. So, I came to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord for the answer. Only problem now is, I need to weed out the crap from the goods. Though, most of this decklist I like anyway, I just need someone to point out the real crap. (Seriously, all these dead bodies... clogging my nose...)
So, I'm wondering why Jarad's orders isn't in here. I mean, it does two amazing things this deck really wants: puts something (i.e Genesis, or Filth) in your grave, and gets a creature to your hand (i.e Eternal Witness, Lord of Extinction, etc). Seems like a win/win to me.
