Dec 29, 2010JollyTheOctopuss posted a message on Oooh, shiny...I remember once when I went to this school for delinquents and crazies, you could skip an entire half of a school year by working at the cafeteria (really puts things into perspective with where they think you'll be going in life) and I switched some of the sugar cookies with flattened chicken nuggets. Now they were entirely normal chicken nuggets, but I just loved the idea of some half asleep kid, expecting to bite into a cookie only to chow down on meat.Posted in: w1lll Blog
I kept laughing under my breath as the kids picked them up and put them on their plate and would mumble "Hehehehe, meaty cookie" to myself as they went by.
Those were good times. -

I too am on this lonely blog mountain, preaching to no one so I have indeed heard your call. Isn't this place kinda nice in a way. It's peaceful in it's own right really.
As for myself, I'm just fine. A lil hungry and slightly hungover but I'm sure I'll be fine after breakfast. The weather is okay, a bit cold but nothing that would keep a person from getting out of the house. Sort of hoping to head over to the post office later.
Alas, I don't really get to come here often though. I only drop on when I have some terrible idea that I could only possibly share on here, but when I do it's always just wonderful.
Anywho, tis a pleasure to meet you. I certainly hope to hear more from you! -

Although the intended focus of this entry was indeed to share with others here my wonderful new band idea, I understand that the bathing part adds a little spice. People tend to pay closer attention to you if your genitals are exposed. In the same vein though, if the bathing occurred without the ideas, I wouldn't have mentioned it.
And it would be awfully noisy, I'm not entirely sure if their vocals (they're all singing too) would even be heard over the drums, we might have to fix that in the studio. -

The main idea is to try and get out early artifact creatures, play Arcum and then go into one of the big cool artifacts ASAP. If they have a few creatures out you might wanna go into Portal To Phyrexia. If they haven't played any threats yet, maybe God-Pharaoh's Statue. If they're tapped out, maybe Winter Orb to slow them down and then God-Pharaoh's Statue. The Magic Mirror can draw a ton of cards. Mindslaver can be an extra turn, and let you see what's in their hand and mess up all their stuff. Mycosynth Lattice can be really cool with Hurkyl's Recall to bounce their entire board back to their hand or Karn to lock them out of playing stuff.
Urza, Lord High Artificer can make a big threat and tap down your Winter Orb so you're unaffected by it as well as be something to do with the infinite mana you can get from Power Artifact on Basalt Monolith or Grim Monolith. Chromatic Orrery is good for when you just need extra mana, helps work under Winter Orb and can play big artifacts that you wound up drawing. Having a ton of mana can be cool too since if you have Mindslaver in the grave, its not hard to get enough to where you can sac Myr Retriever to Arcum, get back Mindslaver, get some cool artifact into play AND perpetually play Mindslaver and use it so they never get a turn again.
Between all the artifact mana dorks and the usual mana ramp staples like Sol Ring/Crypt etc, it shouldn't be too hard to consistently have Arcum online and putting huge things into play by turn 3-4. Portal To Phyrexia is USUALLY the first thing you get since they usually have creatures out AND it lets you get back the creature you sac'd so you can keep using it for Arcum every turn.
Honestly it mostly wins when people just scoop because you have out Portal, God Pharaoh's Statue and a Winter Orb by turn 5-6 but if they don't scoop you hope to win with Karn making stuff creatures or the Urza token after you've locked them down or bounced their board.

The main complaints I've seen about MTGO is that people think it looks outdated or they're under the impression it costs way more to play than it actually does. And while given, the program does look a bit bare bones, its still mostly pretty smooth, easy to use and certainly better than something like Cockatrice or whatever. Heck, I know some people prefer the more simple, no frills play without the animations and backgrounds anyway.
But yeah, my main point was just to both encourage more people to give MTGO a chance OR if you do play on MTGO, post here, give me your name, I'm always looking to have more people to play. I mostly play 1v1 commander and some fringe modern decks myself but I'm down for any format really.

I know mostly everyone kinda went with the same idea and mine isn't really too diff (although I did totally have a build saved for it like literally the day I saw it spoiled) in that I'm focusing pretty much exclusively on pumping Ojer and then using a bunch of cheap burn to the dome to end the game fast. Cards like Kessig Flamebreather and Firebrand Archer are amazing in the deck and almost kinda work like clones of Ojer when they're out alongside it.
And that's pretty much the whole strat. Get out those "deals damage whenever you play an instant/sorcery/non creature spell" cards, pump ojer and deal a ton of damage.

Manabarbs can deal a ton of damage even if Ojer is just at 4 power. And Grapeshot is a cool finisher after you've played even 2-3 other burn spells to the dome its not hard to have the 3-4 copies of Grapeshot count as the last 28+ damage to end a game.
This deck has no wincon, it's never won a game but tbh it hasn't really lost too many either. The entire focus of the deck is getting to 10-11 mana and then playing Divine Intervention and either Vampire Hexmage or Hex Parasite to remove the counters and immediately end the game in a draw. And boy does this get people angry! I've seen people freak out!
Super simple strat, use your board wipes to stay alive, tutor for the combo pieces, get to 10-11 and then do the thing. There's mass land destruction in there too cause it's always fun playing MLD with Teferi's Protection or just for the hell of it to upset people.

A lotta the other decks ran a bunch of creatures like Sram or Kor Spiritdancer for card draw, stuff that makes enchantments cheaper but I kept finding that I'd just rather have pretty much any 2cc aura that can start tutoring for the other auras I need to deal the 21 damage and that unless I REALLY need it, anything that isn't an aura just gets in the way.
A typical good game might go something like:
Turn 1-2: Play Light Paws
Turn 2-3: Play any 1cc aura, go for Flicker Ward on whatever colour seems scariest on their side. Play any 2cc aura, get All That Glitters
Turn 3-4: Light Paws should be about 8/8 now. Another 2cc aura can get Daybreak Coronet it's 12/12, another 1cc can get Ethereal Armor and it should be 21+ and hopefully unblockable through some mix of whatever is attached.
Stuff like Silence, Orim's Chant, Reprieve and Mana Tithe hope to shut them down on that crucial turn 3-4 where they might cast removal, their commander or other big scary stuff that could keep you from winning the next turn. Silence and Ormi's Chant can help on your own turn too if you wanna keep them from using instant speed removal on Light Paws the turn you play it and try to get an aura on and give it protection.

I mean it doesnt happen EVERY game. But between Chancellor of The Tangle and Gemstone Mine its not too uncommon to get a 1st turn Devoted Druid and to follow it up on turn 2 with Vizier. Eladamri's Call and Finale of Devastation help since if you played the Devoted Druid on turn 1, you have enough to search for and play Vizier and then go off on turn 2.
From there you can play an infinitely huge Walking Ballista or in my own version you can play Emrakul or another Eldrazi or you could use Finale Of Devastation to tutor for Emrakul or some other huge thing and swing with an infinitely huge Devoted, Vizier and Eldrazi.
Even without the 1st turn Devoted, between all the tutors in either deck its not too hard to get turn 3 wins if not turn 2. The tutors def help with redundancy.
That's a trip I was literally coming to the forum to post a really similar deck but wasn't using the Gemstone Cavern/Tangle trick for turn 1 druid and worked that into my own version and its been super fun!
My own take was similar but with less disruption like Annex and Pact of Negation and used Finale Of Devastation and Eldrazi instead but I totes like this take on it a lot too.
Here's my own similar version.

Predator's Rapport is really cool since it can often be like 17+ damage and should usually be enough for a lethal attack by itself. Felidar Sovereign can be a cool surprise win since its easy to stay above 40 life. Stoneforge Mystic can grab a few diff equips for Treebeard but often times you just grab Kaldra Compleat and hope to cheat that out the next turn. Armageddon, Ravages Of War and Cataclysm are just always fun to run in any deck that can run them cause blowing up everyone's lands is cool.

The focus of the deck is primarily to go off with a few diff combos involving Ratadrabik and one of the creatures that makes the ring tempt you when they ETB so you can make them Legendary and sac them infinitely. You can sometimes win with attacking with Nazguls and stuff but usually you're going for one of the combos.
Those combos being
Ratadrabik of Urborg+Nazgûl+ Altar Of Dementia : Sac ringbearing Nazgul to Altar, mill them, Rata makes another copy, choose that one as ringbearer, repeat.
Rata+Boromir, Warden Of The Tower+Corpse Knight (or anything with that effect): Sac Boromir with it's own effect, Rata makes a copy, choose that Boromir as ringbearer, Corpse Knight deals damage, repeat.
Rata+Nazgul+Boromir: Attack with Nazgul, if it gets through sac Boromir a million times to make Nazgul infinitely big.
Uruk-Hai Berserker and Samwise The Stouthearted works in place of a Nazgul too for use with Altar Of Dementia.
Teysa Karlov and Anointed Procession can make infinite tokens with Rata and a sac engine.
Other than that just ran as many tutors as I can find in Arena and some removal/discard stuff. Obvsy use the tutors to try and grab whatever card you'd need to go off. It's usually Altar Of Dementia since you can run 9 Nazguls.

Turn 3: Melira or Anafenza and a sac engine or the other part/s of the combo that you didn't play on turn 2
Gain infinite life with finks, Infinite damage with Bombardment or mill their deck with Altar. Lots of tutors and redundancy to get the combo off pretty consistently. Low mana curve so a bunch of your combo pieces fit in between the first 3 turns.

One of the main tricks in the deck is this combo. Hex Parasite and Children Of Korlis. Basically you pay a ton of life with Hex and then gain a ton of life by saccing Children. So technically you could go
Turn 1: Hex Parasite
Turn 2: Children Of Korlis, pay 18 life to Hex, Sac Children to gain 18, Fortifying Draught for +20 on Hex, swing for game
A fairly common turn 3 win is
Turn 1: Birds
Turn 2: Vito
Turn 3: Land, Rest For The Weary for 8 damage (opp goes to 12), Fortifying Draught on Birds (opp goes to 10 birds gets +10)
The Hex/Children combo is cool with Vito of course. Speaker Of The Heavens can drop on turn 1. Turn 2 play Rest For The Weary or Hero's Reunion to start making 4/4s that turn. Rest and Reunion do a lotta damage fast with Vito out. A lotta times 2 Rests for 16 can be gg cause the opponent already took 4-5 from shocks/fetches.

But other cool stuff can happen where you have 1-2 Waste Nots out and make them drop their hand, which triggers you drawing cards and getting enough mana to play a Liliana's Caress and another card to drop their hand for 14 damage followed by a Burning Inquiry for game. And that's like the main intent, getting "when your opponent discards..." effects out and playing stuff like Dark Deal, Collective Defiance and Burning Inquiry to deal a bunch of damage and get cool effects with Waste Not, Tourach and the Bowmasters.
