Ya know, I mostly lurk this board for ideas, tips, and advice. Being "teh reluhtiv n00b," I stay in my lane and ask more questions than I answer.
But seriously board, here's another one: why the hell does everyone ***** and moan when a card or card combo is repetitively used?
*****ing about Stoneforge Mystic? Seriously? I jumped back into the game in middle December. 3 months ago. The mystic was an overlooked rare. I got a set at 8 bucks a pop because I wanted to try out WW Quest. A couple months later they prove solid along -- with Squadron Hawks and Swords and people are pissed they do well.
C'mon. Just STFU. It's annoying to read people complaining about this. It's one thing to ***** about Jace because of his price. (That mess just sours the game.) It's another to go all sour grapes because what was once a "meh" rare now goes for $20+. If I, a n00b, can assimilate after a long layoff without problem, you can too.
And here's a hint: Grab Molten Tail Masticores. Under $5 a piece on eBay. Hell, after today, maybe grab Kuldotha Phoenix too. Like 50 cents on eBay. If they blow up because a sick deck sprouts up between New Phyrexia, M12, and the new cycle, you win. If not, you're out like 22 bucks.
Be ahead of the curve instead of *****ing because you're behind it.
I agree with Grand Architect. I'm really surprised this card hasn't been broken on a large scale yet.
I played this mono blue artifact infect deck featuring that and thrummingbird and some other stuff that benefits from proliferation. It was pretty fast and ate my lunch pretty soundly.
I think, depending on future sets of course, it may make an impact.
And it confuses me by saying the first one was released only in English, while plenty of people have already claimed that they got theirs in other languages.
During this past Christmas Troll And Toad had about 80 or so Deck Builder's Toolkits in Japanese. They came with, for me, a pack of M10, Conflux, Zendikar, and Worldwake. I only bought 2. I should have bought 12. They were only $12.99 a piece. I kept the boxes (and haven't opened the Conflux packs). I could take a pic and post it if you need confirmation or something.
The only way you can "invest" in Magic is by being the owner of an LGS, quite frankly. They have the inherent leg up of taking in all trades at half value and selling for full value. Not only that, they get their product directly from distributors that they can then mark to MSRP.
But to "invest" in the sense that one day you can cash out like it's a mutual fund or something? Absolutely not. Even if you played 10 years ago and had dual lands left over for wallpaper, you're only getting half of that in cash from a LGS. So, $50 for that Underground Sea you paid $15 for? $35 profit over a 10 year span? Not good.
(Hell, despite analyzing the market and seeing that a box of WWK is soughtafter and snagging one at a decent price in hopes of using it as trade bait, no one wants it from me. The LGS is only going to give $100 in trade. But what about when the LGS got a box at a decent price? They were able put it on the shelf at $5 per pack and sell it within the week. So, no, you cannot invest in this game.)
Found a Worldwake fat pack at K-Mart again, and from my previous time I found one (no mythics at all, just one stoneforge mystic) I planned on just opening three boosters and selling the rest to get my money back, but I figured what the hell, I'm going to go for it again.
Most notable pulls:
-Kalastria Highborn x2
-JACE THE MIND SCULPTOR!
When I was checking the rare on my Jace pack, I slowly revealed the bottom right corner of my rare slot to see if the loyalty box was there, and it was! I am so happy right now.
Man, where do you live? I've been to Wal-Marts and Targets here in Tucson, and they haven't had WWK since I don't know when. Hell, I've even talked to the guy who reorders stock for WalMart and he showed me what all of the WalMarts in the city order. It's all SoM, MBS, & Deckbuilder's toolkits. WWK can't even be ordered. I'm totally jealous.
Let's be honest here: the secondary market is a byproduct of what the pros do and play. Plain and simple.
Stores see the pros play certain cards, they adjust prices appropriately and everyone who plays for fun gets taken by the nuts because they want to emulate the pros.
The only time you may have a leg up on getting certain cards for a decent price is pre-orders, believe it or not. That $35 Tezzeret looks like a decent investment right about now, doesn't it? The only problem is that stores will always shift to correct past failures by manipulating future sales. If Jace was a $25 pre-order that is going for $90-$100 now, then everyone will have to deal with the fact that stores don't want to be screwed again.
This past FNM, my opponent used it to nab my 9/9 Bonehoard when he was down to 4 life.
Talk about a game swing.

Edit: I think it was this deck, in fact: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/deck.asp?deck_id=788928

It's life. Whatever.
No. I have no idea what sarcasm is.
(I'm just getting back into the game. No clue who Shikari is. Honestly, possibly thought I mistook the equipped Training Drone.)
Grats to Brad.
Bed for me.
My bad. I'm tired. Heh.
And this game 6 is getting close.
Brad is oh so close.
That R/W metalcraft deck Guillaume had just smashed. Piston sledge on the Training Drone.
Yikes.
3-2 Brad.
And thankfully we're back to standard.
Poison won again -- Guillaume was just overrun with poison creatures. (Sorry though, I missed what they were.)
Nelson 3-1.
