Wrote this after a 12-5 five-round midnight prerelease, a 45 minute drive, 45 minutes to unwind, and 4 hours sleep.
I had a blast. I went to one of the smaller prereleases at a comic shop, as it was the only one doing the midnight thing. There's a bunch more throughout the weekend, but I'm with the family and can't get away.
I went 2-1-2 playing U/R and took 7th out of 20, good for 5 additional packs. One had a flip rare and a normal rare in it. Surprisingly, no mythics out of everything.
Heretic's Punishment was terrific repeatable removal, and after their stuff was gone, I aimed it at the opponent, usually finishing them off before I milled myself.
Civilized Scholar was brutal, because most people didn't realize that after Merfolk Looting, and discarding a creature, he not only transforms but untaps. They're not expecting a 5-1 to swing that turn. In round 4, one had a Sharpened Pitchfork for 6-2 first strike. (Yes, he's still human when he transforms!) Trepanation Blade got +8/+0 once.
Stromkirk Noble was frequently unblockable and got very big very fast. A turn 1 Stromkirk or Reckless Waif was usually game. The games I lost were when I didn't draw the one-drops and the opponent was able to get their slower deck going.
The format is slower than Scars block, so there are going to be a lot of draws. I drew my last two matches in four very close games.
Also, flashback cards are like gold in Innistrad sealed. Can't tell you how many times I used Silent Departure twice and Geistflame twice and Rolling Temblor twice and Think Twice uh, twice. Is that four thinks altogether?
Seems to be little in the way of targeted graveyard removal that can stop someone from getting double use out of many of their commons and uncommons.
Best thing in prize support was Instigator Gang // Wildblood Pack. This guy's going to be a beast in EDH. Combine with a little Battle Cry, maybe Stonebrow or Kiki-Jiki or Urabrask. Possibly even Standard playable.
Any chance Past in Flames will work in a Hive Mind deck that self-mills your library? You'd need enough mana to do it, but you could dump your library with Leveler, then during second main, flash back Past in Flames, then flash back five Pacts for the win.
Except that deck never cared about casting Dragonstorm. It wasn't in the deck to actually be cast, but because it is a red spell. It would be another option though and since Dragonstorm went up to a silly price since the PT took place, it would be a good replacement for ppl that don't want to fork out that much on 4 Dragonstorm.
No, it didn't. The Scourge version is still 3 bucks or less.
I can't stop thinking about the hilarious things I'll be bludgeoning people to death with thanks to the most awesome red card of the set, Bludgeon Brawl. How awesome will if be to whack people over the head with a Knowledge Pool-wielding Goblin? Damn awesome, that's how awesome. Also Darksteel Relic. Because taking steel hockey pucks to the head ain't hurting anyone.
On a side note, every mythic in this set feels mythic. A job well done.
Bludgeon Brawl goes right with Puresteel Paladin in my imaginary Jor Kadeen EDH deck! Equip your stuff for 0 and watch your guys get +X/+0 where X is the cost of the Darksteel Forge you're swinging around, plus another +3/+0 from Jor!
If so I'd like to point out a mistake on Caged Sun (there may be others, I only just found this thread).
The last ability reads:
いずれかの土地の能力によりあなたのマナ・プールにその選ばれた色のマナが1点以上加えられるたび、あなたのマナ・プールにその色のマナを追加で1点加える。
Whenever one or more mana of the chosen color is added to your mana pool by the ability of a land, add an additional one mana of that color to your mana pool.
Doesn't work that well with colorless mana after all!

All-stars for me were two Civilized Scholar // Homicidal Brutes, Stromkirk Noble, Sturmgeist, and Heretic's Punishment. Also, a topdecked Rolling Temblor won me a game when it swept the board of a player who had overextended.

Then how come the spoiler's been edited to say Instant?

She's immune to some of it, at least, like Black Sun's Zenith!

VERY cool in monoblue artifact decks that run some colorless mana, then.
Plus, a Spirit, so he can be used with Soulshift.
