Found out about this a little late but I printed off the ad and went to Wal Mart on my lunch break. Apparently, they do price match. I figured this out when I got there and all of the ravnica and theros packs were gone. The entire display was empty except for dragons maze packs. The display was full on Wednesday when I was there last.

So, not wanting to leave empty handed, I figured I'd make a swing for the fences and took a pair of M14 fat packs and a pair of Commander 2013 decks up to the register. It took management intervention, but they honored the ad and I got them all at the BOGO price.

Sadly, the M14 fat packs were the worst ones ever assembled by WOTC. 4x Savage summonings? C'mon!

For example, my store tried to run modern, we had 20 people the first time, second time 6, third time 0.

Same exact thing with my LGS. The owner did a legacy league around the same time and the same thing happened, yet again. First day attendance figures were amazing, after that, it dwindled to nothingness. I practically ran a free taxi and loaner deck service just to get the thing to fire for the duration of the league.

Having alternatives to standard is a fantastic thing, no doubt. The problem is finding interested players.

Love the post! Definitely a noble goal, trying not to be judgmental. I did, however, get a kick out of this:

"woman reading a mass market hardback: oh a liberal!"

    A couple of observations:

    1) as a "liberal", I don't consider the term to be a pejorative (which I think is implied in this topic)

    2) I'm not even sure how you get "liberal" from seeing a woman reading a book :p

    Best of luck though.

My question is, why are so many people upset with the way the guy who writes for Forbes...Guy from Forbes: writes to his audience.

Guy is not from Forbes. Any random joe can submit word salad like that and they will publish it. His article is garbage, as are his numbers. I'm tempted to write an article praising MODO and Hasbro/WOTC decisions in every respect, then have it published on Forbes just so there's a counter-argument being made through these seemingly official channels. I don't play MODO anymore (unrelated to this latest bruhaha) but I think this article poses genuine concern to Hasbro when so many people out there cannot distinguish between basement blogger and a legitimate investment professional. "lost 11% of market value" is unsubstantiated bull****. Luckily, market investors are probably better at sniffing out said bull**** than members of this forum. Otherwise, who knows how the article would affect stock prices.

It's damned irresponsible, both on the part of the author and of Forbes.

Soul sisters is big fun and mostly a budget deck. Pretty sure you could scoop up the pieces for < $200

**Edit** Hows about I actually read your post before responding? Missed the part about green, my apologies!

This might as well be an Examiner or Huffpo piece. Take it with the appropriately sized grain of salt.

Oops, I was thinking of another post where a user said that they found a Mind Seize deck returned with a few cards missing.

That was me. Same thread, a second person with the same situation. I'm actually interested to know if that poster is also from the Tampa bay area.

And as for where the crime took place, I sincerely doubt that someone sliced open a deck in the middle of the store, took it apart, opened up the inner deck, sifted through it for a handful of cards, put it all back together perfectly, superglued it and returned it to the shelf x2. That's a lot of work to be doing in a store with cameras and foot traffic. I'm not saying it's impossible but purchase/return just seems the more likely scenario.

At least when I bought them, I practically destroyed the packaging so there's no way some other poor sap will have his/her time wasted like I did.

Don't a lot of stores require an ID for returns over $10? If not, they really should.

Typically only when the customer doesn't have the original receipt.

I guess it all depends on how much work you're willing to do. The ebay prices are already starting to come down...so you have to ask yourself if the time and effort of reselling multiple Mind Seize decks is going to be worth the hundred or so dollars you'll make.

Might make more sense to sit on them for a year or two before reselling...

Gods forbid I do that and get blasted for "hoarding" lol

And the price is actually on the rebound, or was when I checked yesterday.

I've done it several times already. I have what I need, since I don't play Legacy, so I just let someone else buy the others.

You don't play legacy. I do.

Legacy players historically trade legacy cards for other legacy cards. So yeah, I'm not going to leave any copy of a deck with tradable legacy staples sitting on a shelf. Not that I've done anything remotely in need of defending, but whatever.

I'm kinda ambivalent toward you as I feel sad that some jerk "pick-pocketed" your purchases and ruined the product but meanwhile... purchasing 7x Mind Sneeze is just hoarding and I despise that.

So you would let value sit on the shelf and just walk away? Why do I doubt that.

And I don't think hoarding means what you think it does. I'm using a set of True Name Nemesis in my own legacy deck and everything else is being traded away right now. I'm not a speculator, this is an expensive hobby we have. I'm going to get the best value I can for each and every dollar I spend on it.

I only ever ran it in a competitive environment. It worked wonders in my Kaalia of the vast deck. With Kaalia on the board and a fist full of angels/demons you can do amazing things.

If box tampering is super obvious, can't you return them at the store?

If tampering isn't obvious, you should be aware that a ton of people have reported that their decks were missing cards and that WotC are sending out replacements if you report it to them.

I only realized right away because I was opening 3 at the same time. 2 were from Walmart, the other was from Target. The target one still had plastic wrapping around the inner deck so I knew right away the jig was up. Sure enough, cards were gone.

Upon closer inspection, there was evidence of tampering. The thief did a masterful job of opening the deck from the bottom, and then supergluing it shut. After knowing what to look for, I compared it to one of my other unopened commander decks and the glue lines are clearly visible from the outside. They're faint, so unless you were looking for them, you'd never notice.

I took them back without issue. I asked for a sup right away and made sure they would absolutely not be put back into circulation. She said this kind of thing happens all of the time and even did a computer search to see if there were any more in stock to replace mine. There weren't, but it wasn't a big hassle.

So I wasted an hour and some gas so some sleaze bag could make a free and easy $100 or so. Good times.
