...With the general idea of making gigantic, unblockable, untargetable, card-drawing beaters. Can be increadibly frustrating to play and to play against. It's a real test of patience to wait until you have enough mana to cast aura gnarlid and canopy cover only to have the gnarlid pathed in between spells. But then again, I just finished a game which went as follows...
T1 (me): forest, utopia sprawl (green).
(opp): island.
T2 (me): forest, aura gnarlid.
(opp): island, etherium sculptor.
T3 (me): forest, keen sense, blanchwood armor, swing for 8 unblockable.
(opp): island, 2nd etherium sculptor, pass.
T4 (me): forest, rancor, aspect of mongoose, swing for lethal.
Obviously a very fortunate game for me, to say the least. The deck usually doesn't accomplish turn 4 wins, and generally, my opponent's done a lot more by the end of turn 3, but apparently these things happen. This is a deck I tried to build for less than $5, and a little bit of money could go a long way to make this deck a lot better. I'm sure Thrun likes rancor and blanchwood armor just fine.
This deck is all about improving upcoming-card quality to maximize the efficiency of wolf-skull shaman and leaf-crowned elder. Orochi leafcaller and bosk banneret speed up the early game. Gilt-leaf seer and oracle of mul daya help provide card quality for wolf-skull and leaf-crowned. Fauna shaman is the toolbox, ulvenwald tracker and master of the wild hunt are pseudo-creature removal, elvish piper is extra tech and combos well with fauna shaman. Playing woodfall primus is penultimate. The pair of lead the stampedes are for just in case the deck runs out of gas.
@DeluxeTea; I've been building something along the same theme on MTGO. My build abuses Cloudshift and EtB abilities. I use lifegain as a means of slowing down aggro decks. Stonehorn Dignitary hurts a lot of decks with a Conjurer's Closet around.
Anyone have any thoughts on ambush viper and asceticism? Seems like a pretty solid argument could be made to somehow try to open up some space in the deck for those cards.
Ambush viper provides extra removal at instant speed with an ulvenwald tracker on the board (and is tutorable!), and is a great body for both of the green miracles, increasing savagery, etc. In testing i've come to prefer the flash of ambush viper to the soulbond of nightshade peddler, and nothing sucks more than a lonely nightshade peddler. I prefer ambush viper to viridian emissary because I think the extra removal helps this deck more than the extra mana. And if skinshifter had flash, I would run it. But it doesn't, so I'm not. Most importantly, perhaps, is that ambush viper seems like a better topdeck than the other 2 drops in most situations.
Asceticism is another random card that gives this deck a lot of extra reach, possibly enough to warrant getting some attention at the 5-drop spot. This deck runs incredibly smoothly when *all* of your creatures have the best part about dungrove elder and the best part about wolfir avenger. It forces your opponent to suddenly have an answer for an enchantment when they would otherwise be trying to answer your threats directly, buying a little extra time for the fight club to keep fighting. Also, I think given the ridiculously aggressive nature of the 1-3 drops in the deck, *if* you're opponent isn't equipped to deal with enchantments (big 'if'), than asceticism becomes another "OK, you win" card. I do understand that this card is competing with garruk, primal hunter, wolfir silverheart, vorapede, overrun, batterskull, and every other 5-drop that would usually blow asceticism out of the water. Which may very well still be the case here, but maybe not. There's something special about letting predator ooze bounce back from black sun's zenith.
I think the miracles are absolutely the best spells in standard right now. (And I think they're the best green boost spells, too.) How are we supposed to stop terminus and entreat the angels? Does everyone have to run counter-magic now?
Please, everyone, take all of this with a grain of salt; I'm no pro.
Does anyone have any opinions on overwhelming stampede and/or mul daya channelers? I think the deck requires more overrun effects than 4 ezuri alone, and I prefer overwhelming stampede to garruk or eldrazi monument because stampede should be a much better bonus than +3/+3 trample or +1+1 flying, and can cause a lot of surprise wins turns 4-6, even with only 3-4 creatures sometimes. I've even tested primal bellows to work alongside stampede as a 6 mana combo that can make for some pretty ridiculous bonuses. I also like mul daya because in such a creature-intensive deck she's usually a 5/5 or larger, which can trigger some overwhelming stampede wins, or she can be a sort of 2nd-rate archdruid in a pinch. I find she often becomes one of the main targets for removal in games 2 and 3. I generally run 4 Copperhorn scout as well because I like the vigilance effect when there's 2 on the board - it helps out with so many aggro builds running around today, from boros to vampires. Also, the extra mana it can provide through your other creatures can help a lot during the combat step or 2nd main phase.
20 forest (...in a deck all about explosive starts i think cipt lands are like shotgun blasts to the feet)
I'm trying out the hydra in place of vengevine right now to test out what sort of interactions i can get with fauna shaman and overwhelming stampede. Green sun's zenith isn't in because of the anti-synergy with khalni hydra, which would be it's main target.
Not gonna lie, haven't really read most of the other 97 pages of this thread, i just saw it said ww quest... looks as if it's changed more into w/x quest instead. I like the color splash and think that deck design works very well, don't get me wrong, it's just happens to be my opinion that it's not really white weenie anymore when you're trying to hit green mana by the second turn. But anyways, I digress... I've got an idea; soul sisters meets ww quest. How possible is this?
Seeing as this idea just popped into my head half an hour ago and I decided to throw a REALLY rough draft decklist up here, i don't have a sideboard, but I imagine it could be filled with the missing pieces of both decklists, like kor duelists, ajani's pridemates, and survival caches.
Judge the hell outta the deck; that's what it's up here for. I just wanted to throw the idea (...that quest for the holy relic and soul's attendant might have a thing for each other...) on the table and see if a viable deck could be forged from it.
