Olivia could deff be an option. The problem I see with that currently is the mana doesnt support her very well. Only running 4 red sources. Otherwise shes a beating. I like Desecration with Harvest, and I'm not actually sad to disciple him away.
also I figure Messengers pretty bad when you're getting hit in the face. So if it gets speared, thats -3 damage to your head.
Yeah man that makes sense. I just love that harvest can be used on the offensive and defensive. Tweaking your list to the numbers I wanted, heres what I came up with.
So I cut the MB abrupts for +1 Rakdos +1 Harvest. I wanted the extra Rakdos after playing down in GP Atlantic City this weekend and seeing Jund, Naya, Junk, Bantchantments, GB, Bant everywhere. Those decks tap out pretty frequently, so I wanted the extra blowout.
My board is way different. I kept with the Ultimate price plan vs aggro, but I also wanted 4x Nighthawk. Its a clean swap with Messenger.
My board plan currently is as follows
Aggro: (RDW, RB, BR, GB, GW)
+4 Nighthawk, +2 Ultimate Price, +1 Sever the Bloodline, +3 Deathrite Shaman
-4 Messenger, -2 Rakdos Return, Then not sure if its -3 walkers and a silverheart, or not.
Midrange: (Naya, Jund, etc etc)
+1 Rakdos's Return, +1 Staff of Nin
-2 Ultimate Price
The idea here is decks like that play so many multicolored creatures that ultimate gets worse. Plus we go over the top anyway.
Control: (USA, Bant etc)
+1 Staff of Nin, +1 Rakdos Return, +3 slaughter Games
-2 Sever the Bloodline, -2 Ultimate Price, -1 Desecration demon
So thats a rough board plan. I'm not sold on Silverheart. He can be pretty slow, but it is nice how he interacts with Harvest, Disciple, Garruk etc. I'll probably sleeve it up for FNM.
Ok I can get behind this idea. Its pretty neat. Looking at it, I would probably cut the abrupt decays from the MB. I like a very proactive g1, and this deck can provide it. I'd probably go +1 Harvest +1 Rakdos return. A lot of decks tap out currently, so return is just a hand eating blow out. especially since you provide enough early pressure for that tap out. I also think Harvest is pretty sweet in this list.
This deck is pretty legit. It does have some bad matchups. I took it to a 2nd place finish at a GP Trial earlier today. Your matchups vs Zombies, BR, Naya and other midrange decks are pretty easy. Your matchups vs Terminus/D-sphere/Azorious charm decks is much harder. If you're running Kiblers stock list, the huge change is just -1 Deadbridge Goliath +1 Corpsejack Menace . Makes for some explosive plays. The board needs more tuning to beat the Terminus decks. Starting to think some sort of Caves/Tusks is necessary if UWx is a problem in your meta. It does have a weakness to flying G1 if your tracker dies. If it doesnt then its no problem. Game 2 I suggest bringing in the Sever the Bloodline to Handle Falkenrath Aristocrat , Loxodon Smiter, Armada wurm , Drogskol Reaver , and other problem creatures Ultimate Price doesnt hit. You could easily get away with a Sever main over the Tragic slip.
Still fairly sure this threads in the wrong direction. I had posted a while back about the GB List both topping and the one Brian Kibler was working on, and it was dismissed. I piloted the list today with subtle changes to a 2nd place finish in a Grand Prix Atlantic City Trial. Heres the list:
The weakest matchups for the deck are Thragtusk control decks (Bant, Omnidoor) and UWx to an extend. Terminus is a beating in all those situations. You have great matchups against all the other current aggro/midrange, especially if you play it right and save your kill spells for the flyers (Hellkite, Resto, Aristocrat)
I mainly just wanted to play Acidic Slime and Garruk again. With a lot of decks playing really greedy mana bases, the idea was to sometimes have turn 3 acidic slime and put decks behind. Not very hard to do in the deck. Then with all the dorks and Seller of Songbirds (Don't discount her, shes awesome with Gavony/Collective) I figured Collective could be another angle of attack.
