EDIT: @Traumerei
if anyone bothered to read my other post that this was responding to which @traumerei clearly didn't he would have found out that I do play legacy. Then he wouldn't have made such a dumb uninformed comment, I applaud how little people are thinking about this. So 20 people all together within 100 miles of me play Legacy plus me, so 21, then figure a change of + or - 5 and then there are well 16 to 26 max that play legacy in 100miles. I don't care about the rest of the world, it's only extremely clear that so few people play legacy because the cards for them do not exist to trade for. While I can go play standard at a tournament virtually any night of the week and 15-50 different people show up showing me that standard has many people that play it, while legacy is dead.
Why are Legacy cards so expensive if nobody plays Legacy? Legacy is obviously the better format, and it will only draw more players as time goes by. Blah blah blah, Legacy is dead, nobody plays Legacy, I can't care enough to read the rest of your comments since it's plain dumb for you to say "Legacy is dead" when you actually DO play Legacy. What's your point? What are you trying to prove here?
Your comment is so insane it deserves a reply. No my local area is not the rest of the world. 200 miles??? and I get to go to a tournament at every game store in that area, Extremely not true. If I were to drive in a radius of 50miles a 1 hour drive one way for me, giving into account traffic and non highways. There are no LGS at all that hold Legacy tournaments ever. They never do and never will. If I were to increase that range to 100miles or 2.5-3 hours one way minimally, there would be 3 game stores that I know of that hold random legacy events when they feel like it. And I am not driving that far. How many people show up yeah about 20. Is it worth the drive though, noway it's not worth the drive, 5 hours of driving back and forth for a legacy tournament. That is my entry fee to a couple of booster drafts in standard that are close by.
If you just play, then you shouldn't care about the monetary worth of your cards. You should look up the concept of a sunk cost. Basically it says there's no use crying over spilt milk. If you want to retain your invested value in Magic cards, buy stuff that's on the reserve list, otherwise, you're going to have to accept what comes. If you stopped playing Yu-gi-oh because the cards were all reprinted, then you weren't a player, you were an investor. Same thing here. Methinks thou doest protest too much.
Naw, I wasn't very mad in the first place .. I was just surprised at people's attitudes .. I guess most people commented here just don't hang out in the Trade forum much . I disagree with you in the way you said that if I want my cards to retain value, I am not a player, but an investor <-- that is inaccurate to say the least. I don’t know if you are familiar with the idea of being a student and only make a couple hundred bucks a week only to spend most of it on MTG, but for me, I don’t need my cards to go up, but I just want them to have a certain salvage value that is not like “nothing”. In the end, I don’t expect to make money from selling old cards, just getting some costs back and some of that hard earned cash. Sunk cost is an idea I dislike the most, although I understand it's true. But I believe sunk cost would only mean something when let's say, MTG is dead. Then I can't blame anything, I can just say, oh, the game is dead, my money is gone, THAT's sunk cost.
Reprints hurts, in that it disrespects me for saving up pretty much every cent I have to buy that card I want—imagine what I’d feel when that 10 year old commander player open up Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed in FtV Legends a couple months from now? That’s basically puking in my face. Hey, I am not rich, I love that card so I paid $130 for it, and now even a 10-year old can get one? That’s really nasty if you ask me .
Well, I guess I can also say I'm stupid for buying that card since it was like, $5 a year ago . I guess I just came back to MTG at the wrong time =/ .
P.S. I am picking up Heavenly Inferno for kicks of just trying out EDH. The idea of playing the general that puts angels demons dragons into play is pretty sick.
That was just an example, yes, there isnt any $20 card. YET. BUT, Remember the Power creep started with azorious herald, trygon predator, then it turned into baneslayer and titans.
And my man, u r wrong. Magic IS NOT an investment. It’s just a game. I don’t make much money, and for me to shell out so much to play Legacy, it really would piss me off if they reprint those cards so others can get those for like ¼ of the price I paid for. How would u feel ? I have to work for my money, it’s not like I can just throw my money away. I don’t invest in Magic, I don’t use the game to make money – I just play. That’s all I do.
Uhh, there are no 20 dollar cards in these.
Sry2say.
Sol ring doubled in value ONLY because of Commander. (During Shards block, it hovered around 10 dollars)
It was only going to go up more if they didn't include it here.
Since it isn't played in ANY sanctioned format, its a win-win to reprint it here.
It still has just as much play value, and if you were expecting Sol Rings to be an 'investment', well, that speaks on your poor judgement. Nobody liked to pay 20 for them, but that doesn't mean they SHOULD be 20.
Edit:
So you are basically overreacting over something that isn't going to happen?
Ok.
how greedy can u edh ppl get ? "reprint a legacy staple or two"?? "disappointed?" u guys have any idea how much competitive legacy players spent on purchasing those while u ppl can just sit on ur arses and wait and hope for a cheap reprint? it is totally disgusting. I am already shocked at how much value these stupid boxes contain, and if they keep doing this, i will have to sell all my cards. it is part of the reason why i quit yugioh 8 years ago - this just reprinted freakin' EVERYTHING . excuse me, i am not damn rich and i don't like spending 20$ on a card and seee it becoming $3 and even noobs can get in a precon. that's just damn stupid.
Well I guess we are not really talking about just money cards so I guess I've got:
1x Wood Elemental <-- Oh God!!!!!! You're not gonna believe it -- Some trader GAVE it to me.
1x Loyal Retainer (Traditional Chinese, I only like Chinese version of P3K cards) <-- Pulled out of a P3K pack
1x Imperial Seal (Traditional Chinese) <-- Love the Flavour Text
1x Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed <-- Regardless if he's reprinted in FtV, I'm holding on to this guy
1x Signed Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
1x Complete Set of Revised Dual Lands, all NM <-- Some of them the most gorgeous of its kind
Some other fun stuff:
1x Mishra's Workshop Artist Proof
1x Foil Stifle
1x Japanese Foil Stifle
1x Foil Linvala, Keeper of Silence
1x Foil Sensei's Divining Top
1x Foil Vendilion Clique
Alas, it's not going to be worth a playset of Mind Sculptors in a year and half .. maybe never . I mean, Mind Sculptors will still be hot in Extended/Legacy/Vintage.
they seem to be printing a lot of cards with casting costs that don't matter recently... particularly progenitus via natural order and this via tinker will remain a headache to everyone in all sorts of formats
Exactly what I was thinking.
This is going into my Sneaky Tell deck for Turn 1 win .
Standard players go to magiccards.info and look for "Sneak Attack". Please don't talk about Ramp or Shape Anew .. It makes me sad .
EDIT:
Looks like it's NOT .
WOOOOO HOOOOOOOO
Warning for trolling.
