After using almost every sleeve I can get my hands on in the market, my go-to combination has to be Dragon Shield Matte + KMC Perfect Fit Sleeves. Dragon Shield Mattes satisfy almost every category I'm looking for in a sleeve - shuffle, durability, and overall longevity.
Ultra Pro Eclipse sleeves are probably my second favourite. The main issue I've had with them is that they tend to get dirty a lot quicker, at least on the front side. Other smaller issues include the loss of the addictive shuffle feel. After about one or two tournaments, I feel like the sleeves already start building up some dirt, and lose the initial silky shuffle. I'd still recommend these due to the durability alone, which is 2nd to none.
KMC Hyper Mat sleeves have degraded over the last year, they used to be bar none the best outer sleeve in the market for its price. I've bought a bunch of them and have gotten inconsistencies in almost every pack. They edges split easily and fail the 'rip test'-- the only upside is the solid shuffle feel.
Hey Axel,
This list looks interesting and I'm wanting to give GW company a shot. How are the matchups against the big decks in the meta? What are the weaknesses? Could you possibly splash U and squeeze in reflector mages :D?
Wanting to make the switch. Ive been playing the Knightfall Vizier recently, and it feels much more gimmicky and vulnerable than the traditional lists. I'm convinced that a pile of good cards is better suited for me.
I tested a bit against Wolf Run Ramp this afternoon. We ended up 50-50 pre-board but didn't get any Sideboard games in. Here is what I found:
-If the don't hit 6 mana you are usually in good shape. Granted that's not easy to prevent. Holding on to Beast Withins for the upkeep of turn 5 is usually a pretty solid play.
-I was talking with my playtest partner afterwords and he said the worst thing he can see on the opponent's side of the field is a Spellskite (stealing the Wolf Run's affect) or Ghostquarter.
-Dropping turn 3 Hero is especially back breaking and really punishes them for slow starts.
-Playing the tempo game and Beast Within'ing their land early on seems sub-par and doesn't really slow them down as much as I would have hoped.
-Day of Judgement and Gideon ( at least from my list's SB) seems to be quite good against them as Gideon's +2 is pretty awesome for us but I don't have an evidence to support that yet.
-Slagstorm is a real pain but as long as you don't play too much into it, you should be alright.
-I didn't see a Mentor any of our games, so I can't say how he does in the match up but I think it would give us a significant edge as the games can stall out fairly easily.
I'll have to disagree on the DoJ part. I've done a fair amount of testing against this deck, it really feels more like a race.
What exactly do you want to DoJ in Wolf-Run Ramp :)? Looking at the most recent list SCG winner, I'll have to say Priemeval is the only thing I want to see DoJ'd. Everything else isn't profitable. If they played Primeval, that means they've already fetched an Inkmoth/Wolf-Run, putting them ahead of you, even with a PWs on your side. I would personally side out the DoJs everytime.
I agree, Beast Within + Spellskite have been the best answers so far, and I'll also advocate more beaters on the board. Things like Shrine often prove to be a little slow vs this deck (not to mention they have like 10 ways to blow it up), and make for god-awful top decks past T3.
But still, I think this MU is far from favourable. If anyone has any tech on how to make the Wolf Run MU super easy, I'll like to know :).
So far, tested against a few control variants (Esper Stoneblade, UW Stoneblade w/ sprites) and combo decks.
I found that a resolved Jace or Sylvan Library unanswered is key to winning the MU. Also, wastelands with KotR has been awesome against any tri-colour deck. I might even consider Life from the Loam on the board vs control... but so far don't think it's necessary. Thrun resolved is usually gg against most landstill decks. Daze's have been amazing tempo establisher in the early game, especially if I can counter a Hymn to Tourach (which often wrecks me).
Fast aggro decks are a little overwhelming, an early Jitte will help a lot, other than that RWM is just so good.. if it doesn't removed :).
I was considering a singleton Circle of Protection:Red on the board vs NO-RUG in place of a Spell Pierce. Has anyone tried :)?
I'm also curious to know if there is a page with Good/Bad/Average MUs listed as well.
Most of my meta is Valakut Ramp or UB/UW control, maindecking few Vengevines/Wolfbriar's help a lot :).
Nissa Revane/Chosen has been on and off.
Ezuri hasn't proven much to me ever since I ran this deck, being a Legend doesn't help much either. Used to run 4, now cut down to 2. Joraga Treespeaker is meh, sometimes investing a level into it can cost you almost 2 turn as well.
Man.. I've been tweaking this for weeks just trying to find the best answer.
U/W control is not that bad of a match pre-sideboarding as a lot of the RDW cards are still effective
However, post side-board, U/W control has to definitely be my hardest challenge up do date, in which my opponent takes out all creature cards, with the exception of Colonnades, and Gideon's (none of which I can't Mark of Mutiny), and often wins by Jace controlling me if Leyline of Sanctity was drawn early.
My question: is there any card for red that can answer to Leyline of Sanctity?
