I feel the cycle of cards like Browbeat could fit this theme.

Why has Pyromancer's Swath fallen out of favour ?

The card goldfishes faster than any other version right ? Or is at least as fast as Goblin Electromancer + Past in Flames.

The card is weak to Abrupt Decay, Esper Charm, Qasali Pridemage (and Cryptic Command I guess but so is every other card), but apart from that ?

Once Ponder/Preordain were banned, it made it hard to be able to find Ascension & Swath, and get Ascension online to be able to abuse it.

Or at least that was the argument, if I remember right.

    I played a 3 EpEx, 3 PiF, 0 Pyro in a tournament. I Think I would've done okay, if I didn't hit 2 Martyr-Proc decks...

I'll post the deck up later...though I wouldn't recommend it.

I've been playing Storm for a while, but I was always using the Transformational sideboard to Splinter Twin Combo.

But, I have a GPT coming up, and I know affinity is going to be there. For that matchup, should I run Shattering Sprees or Shatterstorms?

I can see how both can be nice, since if you have one problem, Spree is better, but against the affinity match, Storm could be better, since it wipes the board.

For reference, this is my SB:

I'm willing to go away from Splinter-Combo, but I'd like some input. I like the idea of it to trick people up, but not sure if it is the best way to go, or whether or not I should have a bit more control aspects in the board.

    Thanks!

How is this deck performing? I'm curious about Epic Experiment and Goblin Electromancer

I've been testing a list with Epic Experiment (basically the typical PiF-Storm, with 2x Pyromancer Ascension), and it is -awesome-.

You have a hand full of rits, as long as you have a manamorphose, you can start to storm, then dig with EE, and you should be hitting more rits and cantrips. and since the only cards to cost more than 2 in the deck are Empty the Warrens and Past in Flames, you can play nearly everything. And if for some reason you don't have enough for PiF,you should afterwords, and flash it back.

It seems nuts without Ascension being online.

Now, the downside is if it gets countered, and you didn't leave/have Remand online, you may as well scoop, unless it's a control heavy deck, and you can regain your hand.

Nothing special about the packs, other than a safety-beeper-thing.

My first 2 packs of New Phyrexia had Karns in them, from Wal-Mart, but pretty much everything after was crap.

I own more, so I could do that.
Just curious, I know there are targeting differences between Pyroblast and REB, but could someone give me an actual game example where that becomes relevant?

    Surgical Extraction and like cards.

With having both REB and Pyroblast, if they extract one, you still have the other card.

flayer is considered better than zealot yes, because both can finish the game but flayer doesn't require a horde of zombies to do so. Although flayer has a drawback: you need 3 dread returns in your deck to maximize the chances of having 2 dr's in your grave.

the strategy with him is indeed shoot 4, sac him, shoot 5, DR a troll and shoot lethal. However pulling this off without at least 1 bridge is impossible because you need enough creatures to sacrifice to dread return.

There's no fixed list currently. But it seems to balance betweenthe more combo oriented lists with DR targets and the more stable "quadlazer" list that doesn't use DR or DR targets.

i'll post some lists later, i have to go now :p

haha, alright. The help is appreciated.

Just when you think you got a solid list...it goes and flips on you XD.

So, I've been away from this thread for a while (working on other decks, school, etc).

Is the general consensus that Flayer of the Hatebound Is better than Flame-Kin Zealot Now? Also, MD or SB?

Whats the strategy with him? DR Flayer, deal dmg, then Therapy so it's, what, 11? Then hope to land a GGT?

Is this simply to that you have another way to win incase our Bridges get blown?

Also, what is a current LED list, since it seems that's the way to go nowadays?

    Thanks!

Does anyone think that Avacyn will have any place in this deck, MD or SB? Especially with a Defense of the Heart package.

I could see using it in a situational way. Going up against a deck with *** or DoJ.

But it could be Win More. But I figure it's worth bringing up.

Any of you red splash guys ever tried Scald? Would definitely change their math. Raking Canopy would stop delvers and cliques cold, as well as ornithopters and other such little nuisances. Not sure if it is worth a card though...? Depends on local meta I guess. I think I will be testing Scald out at our local proxy tournament, just to see how it plays out.

In regards to Raking Canopy, we already have Elephant Grass and Solitary Confinement. Solitary is the same CMC, and is generally better.

But I can see the point in running it. It's extra protection, but unnecessary I think.

The problem I see is that a not-insignificant number of decks run Emrakul, which renders them randomly immune to this sort of milling attack. Why take the chance that one of your wincons will be completely useless, especially when it involves splashing yet another color?

What about running it in the SB, along with 1x or 2x Tormod's Crypt? We can tutor up the crypt. Say they hit emrakul, we Crypt in response to Emrakul hitting the GY.

But then the problem becomes, what do we get rid of in the SB...

has anyone thought Increasing Confusion might work as a kill condition? backed with a sanctum this could be quite a few cards one ends up milling.

Hmm, that is interesting. Have a light splash of blue...or just set Utopia Sprawl on blue....

Hell, in a pinch, you could mill yourself, then Replenish all the enchantments back.

The only real downside I see is the Blue. But even that is minor.
