I don't know any exact names, but rates are always changing, so your best bet is to type "common" or "uncommon" into the filter and scan the listings for the best rates.

I love playing Pod decks. No counters, no removal. I often don't even sideboard in my extra claims. Just take out their ramp/fixing birds and cobras and it's smooth sailing.

You might already know this, so apologies if so, but since you said you were new to MTGO...

    You have a couple options:

    A)
    1) Buy Event Tickets. You can buy these from the Wizard's Store Front via the Magic client or from 3rd party sites. If you buy them from Wizard's you get them immediately. If you buy them from a 3rd party site, you will have to input your user name and they will contact you and trade you the tickets purchased in game. Like mentioned above, be careful of scams and use sites with good reputations. Personally for event tickets I always just buy from Wizard's.

    2) After you have Event Tickets, go into your collection, right click them and select Set all as tradeable.

    3) Go to the Classifieds section of the client and find a seller/bot that you want to buy from. If you need commons and uncommons, you can type these into the filter and find bots offering bulk rates like 200 for 1 or 50 for 1, etc. That means you can mix and match for a single ticket. Be careful though because some bots advertise based on their lowest priced card but actually charge different prices for each card. Just in general double-check everything when you are trading with a bot for the first time.

    4) Nearly all bots use a credit system, so you will leave some credit behind on the bot. This allows you to trade with them again and receive a certain amount of goods before having to trade them a ticket in return.

    5) Trading with a human (e.g. /join auction or search for 'human' in the classifieds) is pretty similar. You double click the cards you want from their 'binder' and they select the tickets from yours. Again, make sure you mark them as tradeable whenever you get new tickets.

    B)
You can also buy singles directly via websites and they will be traded to you in game, as mentioned with event tickets above. Bots, especially popular ones, are often busy so it's easier to do the shopping in a web browser and then submit the order. Additionally, some places offer discount rates if you buy with money instead of tickets.

If you are nervous start with a small purchase, build some trust, and work up to the big ones.

    C)
On some of the popular bots you can purchase bot credit. You buy this with paypal etc and then you can go to the bot in classifieds and take cards up to your credit before having to use tickets. This can be useful if you don't know the exact cards you want, or don't like having to buy tickets/singles and enter your payment information every time you want to tune a deck.

Another site besides mtgotraders.com that advertises this is abumtgo.com

I've only used mtgotraders.com though, so I can't vouch for them.

You can always view the decklists on MTG What's Happening and ask yourself if you can beat them or not. Dailies have better payout and less risk, but play what you want. Personally, I have never had an enjoyable experience playing a sub-par deck in an 8-man constructed queue.

And you could always start with 2-man queues. There's always tons of different decks in those queues and cheap practice.

  • posted a message on do mythic rares belong in casual play / casual decks section?
My opinion is casual means not a tournament deck, so like not a deck you would find in MTG Salvation's Standard -> Competitive forum or similar for other formats. I think many mythics do not see any competitive play, ever, and it's fun to build a casual deck around them, just to allow them to see some play outside of limited. Plus, unpopular mythics are pretty cheap.

I tend to play casual to test new ideas I come up with and play decks I know suck and would get creamed against top tier decks but I still like.

I agree that playing the ability for 0 was pretty low, though I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be tempted to do the same. I mean, we can both see the clocks and they start flashing red and I start thinking I'm going to win I'm going to win and then I realize I might not win and...

I've lost a few game 3 tournament matches within the last minute and it is never a good feeling, especially when you've already psychologically started to count on the win. Like another poster said, the only thing really to do is to play quickly so they can't think on your turn.

Edit: I think also there is another element present, that only applies to MTGO. Some people play multiple tournaments at the same time, or, don't show up for their matches on time (because they are putting the dog out between games or whatever), and it's very rude to the opponent. When I wait 15 minutes at the beginning of a match for them to do whatever it is that's so important and then finally lose game 3 when they have 10 seconds left on their clock, I feel like it is somehow cheap, that they should be punished for disrespecting the time I had to spend waiting for them. But I guess there is no way to prove that someone is there at the start of the game, or doesn't leave the table in the middle.

How about doubling up Molten Psyche with Psychosis Crawler? Sounds fun to me. Especially after a Time Reversal.

I have tried Psychosis Crawlers which seemed great because they help with metalcraft, but I just couldn't get it to work. 5 is expensive. i might try them again now with rites though...

Hmm, yes, the Archivist looks good. Though more vulnerable to removal. Maybe red/blue is the way to go.

Yeah, I've ran mono-red and red-blue with Jace and I was a big Jace fan before, though I think his value has decreased now that he no longer knocks his big brother off the board. Rites is like Howling Mine + Oracle of Mul Daya, it's kind of been blowing my mind so far. But I think a lot of opponents forget to play the extra land and that's been helping me win. Or they're just getting flooded with big cards they can't cast. I'm sort of not a good counterspell player, but the people who like them can go that route. I do use Reverberate as a counterspell on counterspells sometimes though.

Yeah, the new Chandra might work well. Does she usually stick? There's not much besides Raging Ravines and Bolts to defend her...

With the new Rites of Flourishing, it makes me think it's time for Molten Psyche to take a stand again. As a combo lover, I have still been playing Molten Psyche since SOM even though it hasn't be especially good, but I think it has a lot of potential with both cards.

For those new or wanting a refresh on the archetype, the deck wins with Molten Psyche, especially if coupled with a Reverberate, and to do that, you have to keep at least a few cards in your opponents hand (though not as many as you had to with Runeflare) and maintain Metalcraft.

So, here are the main cards I think everyone should consider:

    Card Draw
    Temple Bell
    Rites of Flourishing

    Metalcraft
    Temple Bell
    Voltaic Key
    Unwinding Clock
    Everflowing Chalice
    Mox Opal

    Win
    Molten Pysche
    Reverberate

Anyway, here is the basic list I worked up and played some explosive test games which I was very pleased with.

This is a really random rough-draft I just threw together and I haven't really started on the sideboard. Probably Runeflare Trap, Beast Within, different numbers of the blasts and pyroclasms.

The huge gaping problem I see is we're basically giving Valakut what they want in a hand basket (I know, grand delusions of this type of deck one day competing with Valakut haha) and I don't have any real answer to that besides race. This deck can be very fast though and is more consistent than it used to be.

So...anyone else thinking about this kind of deck?

I use four reverberate. Seriously, I don't understand using less. You can reverberate your opponents counterspells or memoricides or whatever too. It's great.

I like the idea of prototype portal, but I'm worried about ratchet bomb taking out all the tokens.

As for how to play this deck, keep in mind Molten Psyche will change your hand as well as your opponents. Usually a Reverberate / Molten Psyche will win the game. If you do trap + psyche, remember to do the trap first. I know the thread is runeflare trap, but in my experience molten psyche is the real winner hehe.

    Mono Black
    Mono Green Eldrazi
    Turbo Land
    WW Quest

I only play on MTGO, in the tournament practice room, which has a wide range of decks, though I suspect not the "best" ones. It seems not to have an easily definable meta because there a lot of people playing and many people are using it to test new ideas. I think you definitely would encounter more top decks in the tournaments themselves.

Not a bad decklist, I still feel Mimic vat is too win-more. Ratchet bomb is a must in this build, I'd maindeck 2 of them instead of having them in the sideboard. There is never something I don't want to blow up on the board.

I would also cut out the Sun Titan in favor of Frost Titan. He's simply a better creature and helps more with what we want to do (control the board). Playing 4 Acidic Slime seems alright, but it's not really needed (especially if you play up 2 frost titan instead of sun titan).

I've honestly never not wanted mana leak, although it's tough to play around. This deck ISNT easy to pilot since there are so many different decisions to make each turn.

I will say, this deck is about 2x as good with Jace 2.0 in it. IT can win without him, but his abilities are so crucial in here for winning.

IF you have lotus cobras, i'd sideboard them over Wall of Omens. You want to have 6-8 potential ramp sources, and the cobras also help mana fix. If there is an abundance of RDW in your meta, it may not be the best choice, but outside that, it's good vs. just about everything else. The other beneficial part of playing Cobra is he can be an extra attacker with Garruk's Overrun as well. 4 Sea Gate Oracles is already enough cantrip and Venser synergy, so playing WOO is unneccessary.

Thanks for your feedback. Admittedly, when I sideboard I usually cycle out the fourth slime, fourth wall, and fourth oracle against almost any build--just the other cards are more situational. I like having the fourth slime because I can cast it without fear of counterspell (forcing the other side to use up their counterspells, which are usually not in abundance until post sb). Similarly, I like to have all the walls and oracles available for early low cost casts. Also, the sun titan has been great for me, every time it brings back a wall or oracle for me I get so many cards. I always have options.

Regarding the ratchet bomb, I use it against WWquest and pyromancer ascension, but otherwise haven't really found it too useful. What are you taking out with it? Do you really run it up to 6-7-8 to take out their bombs? I mean, lux canon is far easier (and reusable) right?

My hobby funds are limited, as I try to match my wife's spending, so hopefully she will buy something big soon and I can try some of those other cards. I know there would be a spot for big Jace in the deck, though I'm not 100% convinced about frost giant or lotus cobra.

By the way, you said Jace is like 2x as good, but also it's generally understood this is a tier 2 deck. I feel like if I was playing big Jace, I'd want to play a better deck. Is it still not a tier 1 deck with him? I'm feeling I'm already at tier 2 with my build.
