I'm pretty sure Island will be in there. It's an all-star across all formats and has never been banned.

Awesome. MTGAaron actually reads the tweets you send him and acts on them! Admittedly it was a pretty obvious idea and it was probably already in the works, but it feels like they listen.

A few things to consider before people start spurting off about the commons and uncommons:

    • People are going to draft this set extensively.
    • Limited is made up primarily of the commons and uncommons in a set.
    • Certain effects help to make the limited environment more interesting.
    • There is no point in making the Nth version of effect X when a perfectly fine reprint is probably the best option, e.g. Naturalize

It's the same every spoiler season, so I'm not sure why I am surprised.

Delver is probably too good in modern, given they banned Wild Ncatl and it's harder to power-up.

    ...

I would like blue to get less cheap cantrips and more powerful card draw. That pushes the colour away from tempo and towards a slower control deck. Maybe 3UU: instant - draw 3 cards would be the right direction?

    1. Wild Nacatl is much more consistant since I just crack one of the 10+ zendikar fetch lands in my deck and get Sacred Foundry to swing for 3 on turn 2. It also places very few restrictions on your deck building.

    2. You mean like Jace's Ingenuity?

Maybe we'll get a new card like Wrap in Vigor?

EDIT: Rootborn Defenses is just that card.

Exactly. We also had something spoiled in the last 48 hours that doesn't care about judgement effects. I sometimes wonder how many people stop to think before they post on here.

    Here is something else.
    And another thing.

    agree on this....
But better to have uncounterable answers than threats.
    exactly for what you say.

Unfortunately what i see is that as magic push this thing to make things uninteractive the more the game becomes matter of owning and drawing cards rather than playing a deck correctly.

P.S. for the control being hosed do not forget that it cost 1UWW that is quite a lot.

Don't worry, Magic has been "getting worse", "less fun" and "less interactive" since revised.

Probably due to all the "power creep" with WOTC printing cards better than Ancestral Recall, Black Lotus and [CARD]Underground Sea

    [/CARD]

I personally don't see the problem with an uncountable wrath effect in the colour pair most commonly associated with control and counters. It's not like there isn't any answers to this, they just aren't as obvious as a counter.

Just look at Modern, where they went on a crazy banning spree and lost a huge chunk of potential players as a result.

You do realise that this years GP Yokohama (Modern) was the biggest grand prix ever held in Japan? I think you are completely wrong about the banned list. You even indirectly contradict yourself by criticizing standard with this post:

    Quote from AzureShadow »
Standard is bad because Wizards keeps printing dumb cards like Bitterblossom, Bloodbraid Elf, Jace, Batterskull, and Delver that turn the format into "Best Deck", "Deck that counters Best Deck", and "Dumb Red Deck" as 95% of everything that is played. It's been like that since Faeries, got even worse with Jund, and hasn't really changed since then. It's a stale, boring format that has very little going for it and hasn't been diverse in years.

The fact that many powerful cards are banned in modern has increased the diversity of the meta and made it more popular than ever, including Bitterblossom and Jace. In Modern there is no "Best Deck".

This is all completely irrelevant for EDH though, as it is a casual format in which people have different expectations.

A 1-drop creature shouldnt just say "No...no one is having fun. Ever. Dont like it? Too bad. Magic is not longer about having cool spells and combos, and fun....its about pissing off your opponent and laughing at them while doing it."

If someone is laughing, might they not be having fun?

Also, I'm glad you differentiated combos from fun.

Also, wouldn't a universe where magic cards talked be a little bit fun?

Also, just wanted to point out that there was a huge outcry when Grafdigger's Cage killed all graveyard interaction across multiple formats followed by Cavern of Souls making counters unplayable in magic.

Meh. Only good in EDH and casual decks. Tongue

By releasing a product that could literally be called 'EDH fodder' I think they are slightly poking fun at the community. Depending on Cards may pick it up for custom Planechase. Probably same price point as the premium
    Deck series.

I don't see how. EDH is now the most popular non-sanctioned format and around the English speaking community here it is more popular than the sanctioned formats. (Amoung the Japanese-speaking communities it's much lower.)

It is also the focus of a large (and growing) community of writers and podcasters.

Seems like a pretty mediocre rare at best. Hate the fact that it costs 6 to activate and is only a one time shot. If this ever finds it's way into any RDW lists, I'd be totally shocked.

    Nice one. My turn:

I'll be damned if this makes it into any RDW lists.

So the only cards worth anything in this set are the new ajani and the exalted angel, god and I paid for the pre releases today, wizards, I must say, you continue to disappoint in each new set even more than the last.

20 years of disappointment since Alpha. That's some staying power you have.

I have to say that this reprint, while expected, is excellent. They are elegantly designed, powerful lands that reward building a mana base with thought.

I'd honestly rather play Zoo mirrors than a lot of the top decks in the format right now, especially Tron and Jund because those decks aren't interesting in the slightest. And Zoo probably has more distinct builds that are viable than there are tier 1 decks right now so its not like you'll even be really playing a mirror match. My biggest issue though is that Delver is ok and Wild Nacatl isn't, sure Delver might be a little more consistently harder to flip turn 2, its in a much better color and it doesn't commit you to playing a minimum of three colors and require you to use a shock+fetch heavy manabase that does at least 5-6 damage to get going.

I think people are missing the point here. The issue is not that Delver of Secrets is close in power level to Wild Nacatl. The point is as Erik Lauer said in the article explaining the bannings:

The problem is that other decks try to use synergy to get rewards, but those rewards aren't any better than the Wild Nacatl.

Delver is using synergy to get rewards and requires a particular build to optimise its benefits. Nacatl doesn't place restrictions on you to get the full power of the card outside of the colours you play.

The other thing is if we want more people to play the format, having only one non-combo deck be viable is not particularly attractive. Sure, some people may love playing different Zoo builds up against each other for 9 rounds but I'm fairly sure they are in the minority.

Tron and Jund may not be "interesting", although I think that is highly subjective, but they win in completely different ways and require completely different strategies to beat, thus diversifying the meta which in turn breeds creativity.

Anyone who feels like Wild Nacatl deserves to be unbanned needs to go back and look at the meta before it got the hammer.

That is not a format I am excited to play in.

I love how Disentomb costs 1 mana, and Diabolic Edict costs 1B, but apparently if you combine them into one card in AVR limited it will cost 6 mana as a Sorcery. Rolleyes

When you put them on the same card it effectively becomes a two for one which is much more powerful. It's playable (depending on the deck) even at 6 in AVR limited.
