May 22, 2014I don't know why people think there's free mulligans in multi player:SPosted in: 1 vs 1 Traditional Commander
Copied from mtgcommander.com:A In turn order, players may exile (face down) some or all of the cards in their hand.
B Each player then draws one less card from their deck than the number they exiled.
C Players who exiled at least one card may return to step 1 and repeat the process, drawing one less card each time.
D Players shuffle all exiled cards into their deck.
Copied from duelcommander.comApart from the points mentioned above, all the rules of Duel Commander obey the rules of classic multiplayer Commander. This includes the mulligan rule (put aside X cards, draw X-1, repeat until satisfied (...)
So mulligans are actually the same.

May 4, 2014Hey,Posted in: 1 vs 1 Duel Commander (French)
Today I went to a Duel Commander tournament over here with I believe 17 players. We played 5 rounds, no top 8. I came in second place with this particular list:
Gaea's Cradle - too expensive, no one had a spare to lend me
Scalding Tarn - same thing
Tundra - same thing
Knight of the Reliquary no reason to run it without Cradle.
Repeal/Repulse: - answers for Marath and Animar.
Linvala, Keeper of Silence: I heard a strong PTQ player was planning on playing Elfball and he was kicking ass pretty well during testing so I wanted to be prepared. Also nice tech against Marath. I didn't play against either of those decks, but I was still glad I ran it.
Unfortunately, my memory is really bad so I have some trouble recalling the games.
I had to play against Hokori, Dust Drinker. Was quite a long game, but I felt I had the slight uphand throughout pretty much all of it. I started of with some minor threats but no answers. Luckilly he didn't have any threats of his own so there was no need for me to answer anything. I could slowly take away his life, when he started drawing into scary stuff, I started drewing into counters. Eventually won the game.
Second game we both deliberately skipped our land drops to make sure his Land Tax would/wouldn't trigger. However, I had a Dryad Arbor in play so I had a clock on him, few turns later, he started dropping lands but I played a Aven Mindcensor that cost him quite a bit of lands since he was unfortunate enough to draw into fetches.
Played against Rafiq of the Many. His deck was not really optimal, it ran a couple of clunky cards like Finest Hour but also some classic blue counters and white spot removal. First game he started of with t1 Elf, t2 GSZ into that hexproof/defender mana dude. I resolved a t3 Linvala, which slowed him down by a lot. Eventually resolved a Consecrated Sphinx. It got an Oblivion Ring but that was a few turns too late already and I had gained too much benefit out of it already.
Game 2, I didn't have an answer for Rafiq, hoever I had some elves in play and he didn't have evasion so I bought myself a few turns, eventually he drew into a Faerie Conclave that dropped me to 3 in a couple of turns but I found the answer in time and I could stabalize and eventually win.
Oloro, this was a touch matchup. First game I gained some life due to Swords to Plowshares on a 7/7 Jenara, Asura of War which bought me a lot of time. Unfortunately I didn't have an answer for Dark Tutelage and eventually lost the game through card advantage. After 50 min game 1 was over with him at ~16 life, which, I think, was pretty impressive:)
Game 2, we play 60 minute rounds so I had 10 minutes left to try pull out a draw. I played aggrasively and try to win through commander damage, hoping for no spot removal. he drew into 1. After the initial time limit, he was at 7 commander damage but my Jenara was killed once, I had 3 turns to play Jenara and do the remaining 14, but I lacked a turn. I would've lacked 1 damage but he had a Celestial Colonnade to block anyways.
Played against Geist in this round.
Game 1, I resovled an early Mother of Runes that provided me with a solid defense. He had a geist equiped with Sword of Fire and Ice and a Umezawa's Jitte but couldn't really do anything since I would just block with Mommy and give prot to itself. I had a counter + Simic Charm in hand in case he would try to spot removal it. I resolved an Edric which was alright, but Mommy was already doing all the work since he didn't have answer for it. He found a Inkmoth Nexus with which he could build up counters for Jitte and be able to remove Mommy. But I drew a Path to Exile the turn before that. Later he drew into a Sword of War and Peace that gave it prot from white, but I had an elf in play and he was missing the prot from green so no real problem there either. Mommy singe handedly won me this game.
Game 2, he kept a sketchy hand. He showed me later a pretty good hand, it had 1 land, but the rest very cheap efficient threats + mana leak + Ponder. The idea was to play the land, ponder, and get the land to start going. That didn't happen. Wasteland on my turn 2 sealed the game.
I ended in 2nd place. Overall I'm really happy. I made some minor mistakes but overall I think I played pretty good, with the cards I had. I don't think I couldn've done the oloro game better, so 2nd place was best as I could go. I'm pretty happy with this since I usually make many mistakes when playing with real cards since I'm used to having a nice overview of everything like I do on Cockatrice and I'm generally just not aware of everything that's going on.
And I won a Wasteland of my own (I borrowed the one I used today).
final top 8 was:

Are you available for our game tonight ? I am available all evening but tomorrow I go on vacations for a week and I'm not sure if I will be able to have internet so it would be great if we could do that today
And I replied with:
I'm sorry, I only just now got your message so i couldn't make it. Let me know when you get internet.
Also, if you have whatsapp, add me there, it's faster >>my phone number<<, or email at >>my email<< since I check mail very often.
Ps, have a nice holiday
However, I haven't heard anything yet so I'm guessing he's without internet. What do I do?
