Hi there. I have slowly been getting the cards together for me to switch over to Vintage! Now I honestly don't have many of the expensive cards required to make a super powered deck, I thought it might be cool to bring something cool and unexpected to some of the local tournaments! I also love how Necropotence changes how you play, and the ability to play with this card (and couple others!) is one of the main reasons I want to play Vintage. Most combo decks I see seem to be storm but I wanted to try something different.
The deck I want to put together is essentially UB Trix, based off the original Extended version of Necropotence Trix. However, with Necro restricted, can I still depend on tutoring it often enough to help me draw the cards required for the win? Should I include Bargain? I wasn't sure because it's such an expensive card (mana-wise) and is never going to hit the board without acceleration, but I imagine if I can get it on the board I stand a very high chance of winning.
The mana-base is probably completely off, but I'll deal with the mana base once I have the core-combo pieces and the cards to support them situated first.
This is a very early draft of what I've been thinking about. While expense isn't too much of a problem, power is out of reach sadly, or I'd include it. Suggestions would be great, thank you!
For a quick explanation, I've chosen UB mostly to be able to protect the combo. Duress+FoW is one of the best ways I can think of to protect it. Black includes efficient tutors in Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor. The rituals are for accelerating mana out, since the combo is fairly mana intensive (4 for illusions+3 for donate), as well as for getting necro into play. I am not sure if the Mana Drains are necessary, but I included it in my first draft just in case! I am concerned I do not have enough ways to dig for cards, but maybe I'm wrong.
No sideboard yet as I am not familiar enough with Vintage, but I'll build one as soon as I have my main deck semi-ready.

Hello, this should be an easy set of questions to answer. I'm an old player looking to get back into the game and had a question about a mechanic that I missed out on in my absence.
So, does he start out at Level 0 or Level 1? And can I level him more than once per turn? And if I have two on the battleground with over level 4, would they each get +1/+1 or is that only for creatures not named Coralhelm Commander?
And as for Planeswalkers. Can I activate their ability more than once a turn? I assume the ability can only be activated as a sorcery. How do they get destroyed? I remember something about them being able to take damage, but don't know the rules.
I last competitively played during Ravnica, and at that time I was already phasing out of the game. Answers to these questions would be much appreciated.
Well, I was browsing around The Mana Drain's vintage section, and I found a rather interesting topic. Someone is trying to use a turn 1-2 Bitter Ordeal to their maximum advantage by removing a deck's wincons. VS TPS or Grim Long you hit Tendrils / Empty, vs Tezz you hit Vault / DSC, vs Oath you hit their dudes. The only problem, and its a rather large one, is that you are screwed vs Gobbies, Fish, or Stompy. Here is a list that I particularly liked, at least in concept.
I would like to see what you guys think. I am gonna try this deck out, and see if I like it. It does seem a little on the mana-heavy side, though.
I like the idea but would suggest the addition of duals instead of basics and cutting back on some of the mana for more disruption or draw. Seems just from the look of it that you might end up stalling out midgame or hoping for topdeck goodness too often.
Maybe even throw in a splash of red so you can get a little more disruption in the metagame with REB's and the mass removal of pyroclasm incase you can't seem to get an engineered explosives out.
All in all a good idea, but could benefit from some more tweaking. I'd personally throw in a Tolarian Academy, Thoughtcasts, Thrist for Knowledges, and a Yawgmoth's Will. All of which will make the deck rather insane when it comes to drawing...and I have yet to ever, EVER, lose a game when I cast Yawgmoth's Will. Plus with the extra blue goodness FoW's would be castable and help with disruption (I tend to run 4x duress and 4x FoW in my dragon.dec and it does a nice job).
And I am basing my suggested cards on the idea that you will see Meddling Mages, Pithing Needles, and the bomberman/workshop decks where rather weak creatures have amazing abilities and need to be dealt with or out raced. Sounds like an interesting meta though.
I must admit I do disagree with Phyrexian, adding Balance will only hurt. Sounds cool in theory with sacing a bunch of artifacts then playing it, but chances are you won't have the 1W to cast it or it will end up slowing down the game and losing a major gravestorm (as say opposed to two free mana sources [one U or B], an artifact land of the opposite of the mana source, thoughtcast for 1U, Dark Ritual, Salvage Titan, Bitter Ordeal = They cry turn 0). Granted, aside from it being near God Hand, That's 7 cards out of 9 and still strong if it didn't have the thoughtcast or ritual (both of which you are allowed playsets of so very likely to get opening hand or by the next turn).

Anyway, I didnt do much lately or was too busy with minor **** that I couldnt post. I get to work in about half an hour. Went home and worked on my friend's supra at his job (he works at a gas station / garage). It' one of the 80's ones. Nice and fast still, just stuff is starting to wear out since he has 180k miles on it and I'd say he puts about 10k on it a year. My job was basically to muscle things or to clean up parts that had never been cleaned. Yeah, that's lots of road grime. Needed a new timing belt and valve cover gaskets. I was going to help today but I didnt wake up till late and had to leave soon after. The good news out of all of this is that I might get a summer job there. I heart boobs. Came back today and found out that people mustard'D a hall and set off the fire alarm buy squiriting it into one. I heard it was a nice 2 hours outside in the freezing cold that night. I was resting comfy in bed. Parents dont mind me getting an mr2, just worry about the insurance. The ******* up here with a tweaked eclipse broke his blow off valve, which aint cool, but since it is him I laugh. And I got software at home to resize pics, came with our 30 dollar printer. Hot damn.
Well, decided for the new avatar I would ninja-fy myself. I used a pic a few months ago that had some red eye and opened up ms-paint........the rest was history. Went to my two classes today since my first one was cancelled. Went to eat with some friends since it was 40 years ago today that Churchill died (long story). Have some dvds awaiting me, but no ride to the mall :/. They are Mischief Destroy dvds, hear they are good so I bought the box set. If I am going to buy ricer videos, I'm going for the gold.
