I don't think we have to worry about them not reprinting the shock lands. Everyone's expecting them to a point that they know how annoyed everyone will be if they're not reprinted. If we don't see a reprint for the shocks in RTR, we will probably see something just as good or better, just because they know how much people are expecting the shocks.

Don't be surprised if they do not reprint the shock lands. It's a new set, not return to ravnica so lets reprint all of the good cards we made money on. I do, as most are expecting as well some new really super powerful cards that will make Magic like fun to play again.

I totally would play naya, but I think at this point I am going to just wait until the new set comes out in October and a little after when the new decks emerge and go from there. Plus, drafting is fun. I just wish it happened more than once a week. Not having a job while in school is actually really boring.

I don't understand. Is it that people are themselves unhappy with you playing Delver, or that the composition of the metagame/sideboards leads to a hostile metagame for Delver? I believe the first, but skeptical of the second (unless it's all Naya Pod or Dungrove, or something like that).

It is the people who become extremely unhappy with delver players, or players that choose to play tier 1 decks basically. I might as well play limited since from what I heard standard nights are mostly filled with junk decks.

There's nothing wrong with playing UW Delver. You want to play one of the best decks to win, that's reasonable. Who cares what other people thinks? If they are complaining about a popular deck, feed them the Cawblade stories and how they shouldn't be playing standard then.

It would literally be impossible to play delver in this meta and I don't really want to drive over 60 miles to Boston to find a reasonable card shop. The only saving grace to these people is that they think they are really good limited players, which isn't true.... They are OK, and they are nice people but its just not worth even trying to play the deck.

the best way to combat B/W exalted is to play G/B or G/X. I know people have been saying that G is crap, but I have been seeing it doing very well with a color combo like red or black for removal because it can block the fliers (in W exalted) or blue fliers and a lot of times is able to kill them and the fight cards in green are easily as effective than almost any kill spell in the format spell so far, even murder. Because people ignor green mostly and if you draft a few fight spells with a few powerful green creatures you win almost every time. I wouldn't draft many green ramp spells or creatures though, otherwise you might give your plans away. Anyways, a G/B deck won my fnm last night over a very good B/W exalted deck.

unfortunately I found out that the meta I moved into is too small of a community. Which means that they have hated out pretty much all tier 1 decks except for a solar flair variant which ramps. It looks like I'll be playing limited (and getting very good at it) for my few years here while I go to school since it won't be worth playing standard in this environment. I guess there's always online, but eh...

I definitely wouldn't want it in the MD because I like my burn to be targeted in game 1, and I want to have the option to kill turn 1 delvers, mana dorks, and other things. The rest of my list is full to the brim with creatures and swords, and I would much rather have the threats than bonfire which is only good in aggro mirrors. It does almost nothing against control, and even less against ramp.

so what is your list MD? What targeted burn do you run?

so is Geist of Saint Traft worth running at all between now and the next set release? On that note, how viable do you guys and girls think delver will be after october?

So I'm looking to get back into MTG after about a year, I've been playing MTG drafts and stuff for this past year sporadically. Lots has been going on in my life, moving across the country, graduating with a BA and going to grad school and stuff. But I have now found myself with adequate funds to break back into standard. You know, you have to start somewhere buying cards again (I sold my collection a year ago, don't ask me why it was horribly stupid) so why not buy a deck I guess...

I have been looking at tons of lists and articles and what not, but all the lists are so different in little ways. I'm wondering if some people in this forum community could suggest a standard list of cards with variant suggestions on like three different deck list ideas. Or better yet one main list with sideboard options and maybe a MD option swaps or two? Any suggestions are welcome!!!!! Happy magic! Also, if anyone wants to tack on another competitive deck list that competes well with Delver and everything else (any R/G lists out there Delver players are running too?) that would be cool.

Props to those who are awesome enough to respond! Smile

    Hi,

I have really been wanted to read/ participate in a "how are we drafting in the current standard" forum and since mtgsalvation has such a great following I hope we can get one going.

The idea is to discuss not only drafting techniques, but integrate this into which cards to pick in general and how to in general draft a good deck from great options to bad draft situations (if possible).

I just got done browsing in the competitive forum the thread on how to build a good standard deck and thought this thread would also be interesting, useful and ongoing as we all know standard changes very quickly with new releases. So, if this is a good idea maybe make it a thing? If not, please let me in on whatever secret strategies we all have going on drafting in standard at the moment right here?

A night at a draft always starts out fun, but can go sour very quickly if you don't really know how to draft. And there is a whole word around drafting and no dedicated threads in the standard section I see. Please help! I know it is a large subject.

    Quote from Adam W
Not trying to get into a "Hemingway vs. Faulker" type of debate, but sometimes it's important to consider what not to say... Especially when you have heavily focalized narration in the third person. I don't feel like I have a great sense of who Seward is, but I do get the sense that he's someone who deals in "selective omission".

I agree on this point. I also agree that in order for this story to really flow, your sentences need to be tightened up. Use that selective omission. One tip is to break down your piece by simply editing every sentence, and in doing this make every sentence as short as possible while still conveying its message.

I like the object of this story as the emerald, but could the emerald be a metaphor for something else? Instead of finding the stone simply inside a pouch, perhaps the stone is found on the hilt of a dagger or something. Let's pretend this is the case, then the story would gain some authority. For example, instead of Seward simply tripping over his own feet (I thought Seward is a boots type of guy) he could trip and fall with the dagger in his hand maybe making a small cut underneath Seward's eye. Then, as Seward drives off his vision would be impaired which is why he crashed.

I think something like that adds a little extra authority to the story, added along side the superstition of the emerald itself and how it chases away Seward's focus. I hope I was of help! I just graduated with an BA in English, and I finally have time to write again!

  • posted a message on MTG Neoliberalism Thesis
    Hi,

I was wondering if people would be willing to read my thesis I just completed for my English major. If you are reading it (yay!), I would like you to pay attention to the existence and/or strength of my thesis statement and how I do on the paper overall.

I disagree with my teacher on the grade she gave me, but I have a history with this teacher and was stuck with her for my senior seminar class. This was very unfortunate. In any case: if you do read it, please be honest and give me a mock grade! (I promise I won't be offended, feel free to comment on the strengths, weaknesses, and how I could improve; I may want to try and publish this paper).

Just be warned, this paper is on MTG and is 25 pages long. I think it reads very quickly and is quite entertaining. Enjoy if you partake! I have attached the paper as a Word document.

Anyone who has purchased the ebook willing to share their paypal address they used and the order number? I want to buy it for the $5 discounted price. I am currently writing my senior thesis (English Major) and comparing MTG to a successful neoliberal free market. (I know how lame this must sound, but it is actually quite interesting and relevant). Please help! PM me the info if you are willing.
