So far Beast Within is definitely my least favorite. Especially in a deck full of weenies, I often find myself reluctant to use it as LD- however, as general permanent destruction, I find it VERY effective. Gideon? Lolnothx. Chandra? Let's not. Mikaeus the Lunarch for 7? Enjoy your Beast. Also, the synergy with Slagstorm makes it pretty playable, and Mayor's wolves are pretty good at trading with the Beast tokens.
Usually if a Slagstorm is necessary, all my dorks are crispy critters already, or the game has progressed beyond my need for them. They're really there to help me explode out of the gates, with a turn 3 LD spell; with 25 land, I have an easy enough time keeping up mana-wise, even with them toasted. Same with the rest of my dudes. If Slagstorm is necessary, then obviously my board presence isn't doing the job.
Also, I think I might add a Primeval Titan over one of the Mayors. That way I can fetch my Wolf Runs and give them a pounding.
Flip from 0/13 to 0/20, pop mutagnic growth 2/22, twisted Image 22/2, and Fling?
That's basically the plan, yes. True, it doesn't work if you have a life difference of more than 2, or if they Dismember the Tree in response to it's tap, or any number of other nasty things happens, but if you want a consistent combo go play Twin in Modern lol.
Transformational sideboard into RUG Midrange against control (they'll be expecting us to stay combo, and thus will most likely side accordingly), and ways to keep us alive til we combo against aggro.
Seems legit, yes?
Btw, "Gnarled Barkley": best name for Tree of Redemption ever. I think Twisted Tree is a good name for the deck.
While I do like the idea of 4x Inkmoth and 4x KWR, I do not like the idea of 8 colorless lands. That is asking for a lot of mulls; and in a 3-color deck, I really need to have a stable manabase. Now, with a single green source, all my fixing opens up, but I'd rather not be sitting around for 4 turns waiting for that.
I do agree that 1-2 more lands would be better, since we'd like to maxmize the effectiveness of KWR.
Well, if you add white you'll be "just another U/W aggro deck", so if you'd like to keep the hipster rogue feel intact I'd advise against the splash. That said, I think a great inclusion for this deck would be Aether Adept. She is a fantastic tempo creature (and one of my personal favorite cards of all time).
I don't see why this couldn't use a few Wolf Runs itself. 2-3 at most, but nonetheless it seems like a valid inclusion. Especially with one or two Caravan Vigil/Viridian Emissary/Rampant Growth thrown in.
I hope this isn't sarcasm because Battle of Wits was awesome.
