  • posted a message on New Communication Policy and The Tabernacle
The actual text of the new communication rule is "During the resolution of one of their spells or abilities, a player may not assume their opponent has taken a shortcut. They must seek confirmation that a choice with no visible impact was taken." For example, if you cast Path to Exile on one of your opponent's creatures and your opponent just exiles the creature without searching their library, you need to confirm with them that they intended to skip the search.

Tabernacle is just the usual case of you not being responsible for triggers controlled by your opponent. Also, in this situation there's no choice for them to make that would have no visible impact on the game state. They have to either pay 1 or sacrifice the creature, either of which is going to be pretty visible.

That's the one I got for myself way back in the day! I still have the little strategy guide that came with it. Smile

    Here's the enhanced list:

  • posted a message on Mirage Mirror and Graveyard Abilities
For "dies" triggers, yes. For in-graveyard abilities like Eternalize, no. The moment Mirage Mirror hits the graveyard it stops being a copy of whatever you copied, but "dies" triggers use the last-known-information from the battlefield to determine if and how they trigger. If the Mirror dies while pretending to be a Myr Retriever then the ability will trigger.

Have you considered using the Werewolf transformation method of avoiding cleanup step problems, i.e. an upkeep trigger that looks back at the previous turn?

  • posted a message on Primal Wellspring+Kicker Costs
Primal Wellspring's effect only cares about whether you used the mana to pay for an instant or sorcery, not about whether you used the mana specifically to pay for the base mana cost versus an additional cost to cast the spell. In your example you used all 9 Wellspring mana to pay to cast Rite, so each Wellspring will trigger and make a copy of the spell.

  • posted a message on Blue border card?
The only collectible/trading card game I can think of with blue borders was the old Middle-Earth game, but the release dates for Fallen Empires and Middle Earth are too far apart for this to make sense as an event similar to the old FE/Wyvern manufacturing error. I agree with the theory that this is a color error in the black ink used to print the art and frame (the black ink in the rules text, expansion symbol, and mana/tap symbols is done in a different layer).

  • posted a message on Kess, Dissident Mage + Red Sun's Zenith
It goes into your library. That part of Kess' effect will only be applied if the card is actually about to go to the graveyard. Since Zenith moves itself to the library as part of its resolution, Kess won't try to exile it.

Note that this is different from how the Zenith would interact with something like Snapcaster Mage or Recoup, since the full detailed rules for the Flashback ability specifically say to move the card to exile instead of anywhere else.

  • posted a message on Portal Mage and Kaalia.
"Whenever (something) attacks" abilities trigger when the creature is declared as an attacker. The "that opponent" near the end of Kaalia of the Vast's ability is specifically referring to the "opponent" that Kaalia attacked to trigger the ability. Using Portal Mage to point Kaalia at a different player won't go back in time and change the fact of who she was first declared as attacking. When the ability resolves the creature will enter the battlefield attacking the original opponent from when the ability first triggered.

This is clarified by another ruling given in Portal Mage's Gatherer entry:
    Quote from 8/25/2017 »
If you reselect which player or planeswalker an attacking creature is attacking, that creature is still considered to have attacked the player or planeswalker as declared, but it is now attacking the new player or planeswalker.

  • posted a message on Command Zone
It's a replacement effect. If you choose to put a commander into the command zone instead of the graveyard from the battlefield then it didn't "die".

    Quote from 903.9. »
If a commander would be exiled from anywhere or put into its owner’s hand, graveyard, or library from anywhere, its owner may put it into the command zone instead. This replacement effect may apply more than once to the same event. This is an exception to rule 614.5.

  • posted a message on FireBrand Archer
The Archer won't trigger. A spell is only officially considered "cast" after all its costs have been paid. At that point, the Archer isn't on the battlefield anymore and the ability can't trigger.

  • posted a message on Planeswalker Points Website , horrible mess!?
Were you entered into the events with the same DCI # you're looking up? Some of the side effects of the system overhaul were that TOs can't do DCI # lookups by name anymore and they have to gradually rebuild their local player lists based on the #s given to them by the players, themselves. Did these stores already have your correct DCI # on file from another recent event, and are you sure that's the one they used? I guess it's also possible they submitted results for those events later than they should have and they haven't been processed yet.

Every time I follow a link it bounces me to their LGS front page.
I usually have this problem when I'm signed in to my Wizards Account and try to navigate anywhere on their main website. For me, signing out always fixes it (you may have to go through the Planeswalker Points website to avoid a redirect).

Works fine on my end. What kinds of events did you go to? Is there a possibility the TO hasn't been entering them correctly into the recently revamped system?

  • posted a message on Solmenity and Dark Depths
Yes, that's how it works. Solemnity will cause permanents of those types to enter the battlefield with zero counters. In your example Dark Depths' last ability will trigger immediately after it enters the battlefield.

  • posted a message on Do you attend pre-releases?
    Quote from purklefluff »
I think you must be confused with RELEASE events, because the pre-release events are never draft (and I don't think they ever have been either). They are always Sealed.
Many years ago, it used to be acceptable to run draft side-events at prereleases. I don't know for sure whether some places just did a bunch of drafts instead of running a sealed event, but it's possible. WotC eventually removed drafts as an option for prereleases because some bad apples were setting up fake draft pods as a way to sell boxes of product before the official release date.
