The intention was to have a better card with which to attempt to beat Maverick, which I think is the worst matchup for the deck by far. Most of the times the deck wins is by grinding zombies, which cannot really be done too effectively with all the ways Maverick can interact, and Ooze is a really difficult card to beat. If you ever DR a Griselbrand you almost positively cannot lose the game, and should win that turn.
I haven't personally played the Quadlazer version but I imagine it has a so-so matchup with the Miracles deck, if they happen to get an early-ish Terminus (which shouldn't be too out of the question, unless youre attacking for 10-12 on turn 3 on the play). Miracles is also becoming a much larger part of the metagame now that everyone realizes how powerful all the cards are. The new Rest iN peace version can't be any easier for Dredge to win against either.
If Dredge is having such a hard time with maverick because of the "ways" it interacts as well as Ooze then how are you even casting Dread Return into Griselbrand...
I've played both LED Dredge and Quadlazer and I don't believe the inclusion of DR and Targets makes the matchup easier. If anything you're making your openers worse when you see any of them; they wont be live until they're in your gy. The main thing I want to do against Maverick is race their Ooze and produce an fairly large number of tokens. Otherwise that little sob starts taking over the game. I want a full boat of Ichorids in this sense. Plus mav still plays Swords so it invalidates certain specialized targets anyway.. you don't want to be throwing away 3 creatures to ultimately have your "Target Tech" plowed away.
Sure the Creamate is iffy. But I like that it filters, its an instant so you don't have to commit too much to it and it can have some applications against the golgari swarm (Scavenge mechanic). I can't say I've played with the Daggerdrome Imp, but it seems good on paper. I do like that its evasive and turns on Rakdos.
Into the North is awesome and I love the utility of those lands you mentioned. I would def consider both and would warrant testing, however, as you mentioned it would diulte my colored mana. I would only feel comfortable replacing lands that add no colored mana. Hmm I would first consider scrying sheets over Mouth of Ronom though.
I believe you're right about Sterling Grove. I've had my concerns about it as well. Sometimes it guards my Mirari's Wake which is nice, but thats bout it. If anything maybe I should consider Privileged Position; Drawkback can't play it while Teeg is in play. ;( In the end I may end up replacing Sterling Grove with Disenchant. I feel its the right move. I need an out to Humility.
I had Thousand-Year before, however, I mostly never saw it. Being an artifact makes it difficult to fish for. I like that I can use my creature tutors to fetch this guy up early and get really degenerate with Sisay turbo tutoring. I do miss the haste ability the Elixir provided though. As you mentioned Mangara can be a tad too slow in removing troublesome permanents. Although this makes me want to go back to Lightning Greaves. Lol I've come full circle. One thing to note about Seeker though is that she also has the ability to stack multiple Mangara activations with her untap ability.
Yeah. Mirror Entity with Cradle can get pretty out of control quickly. Even without the aid of Sisay your small early mana guys become serious threats with cards like entity, Kamahl, and Elesh Norn. Its not outrageous to run into situations where you have small mana guys out with Elesh and use up one of the creature tutors to fetch up Hokori, Dust Drinker and essentially geddon everyone. From there your army should be able to clean up while people durdle for a bit.
Though my playgroup only durdles for a turn before they retaliate haha.
When I started playing edh I played with a slew of blue decks that I did not find satisfying. Mainly because it wasn't my style. Anywoo I stumbled upon Surging Chaos' Captain Sisay Thread which can be found herefor reference. I of course attempted to net deck the Multiplayer list, however, the more my playgroup sped up the more I was left in the dust. So I adjusted my strategy and I feel comfortable at where my current list is at. I started with all the obvious legends and maybe some legends that were - looking back now - more or less cute rather than actually good;Reya Dawnbringer for instance.
I then made the decision to take apart the whole thing and reconstruct it from the bottom up. I kept the core pieces and started implementing some of the same effectiveness and efficiencies that are found in Legacy Maverick. I became inspired by that deck and my deck reflects that. I play fair green and white dudders. lol. In any case the list is seemingly built for 1 vs. 1, but that was the product of our playgroup. Keep up or get run over.
Why Play Captain Sisay?
You might like Captain Sisay if:
You like to tutor for some of the most degenerate creatures in Magic!
You're tired of playing blue/Want to make blue squirm.
You like to lock out your opponents with hatebears.
You prefer aggro control strategies.
You prefer a deck with a strong Combo plan B.
You might not like Captain Sisay if:
You're not prepared to get ganged up on. (Locking people out of playing magic is no fun for them apparently)
You're meta is for some unbeknownst reason to you playing spells like Pyroclasm. To this same end board sweepers when Teeg isn't in play.
You don't like following a similar game plan every game. We do have a Tutor as our general afterall.
You don't like getting into the red zone with creatures.
I created the deck to power out Captain Sisay at least by turn 3. The quickest the deck can get her onto the battlefield is turn 2. I would advise to use your free mulligan aggressively. I don't want to have a hand that doesn't play Sisay by at least turn 3. Early in the game I usually tutor up Saffi Eriksdotter in order to protect Sisay right out of the gate. No one wants to burn a removal spell on sisay if its just going to come back right into play. Soon after you've acquired Saffi, the next culprit to bring aboard is Gaddock Teeg. This card will single handledly win games. Hes the lock piece and I know how much EDH players love their big spells and this guy just says no. Your objective is protect this guy at all costs. Depending on the situation I would either fetch up Avacyn, Angel of Hope or simply a Gaea's Cradle to power her out if I don't have the mana available. Don't forget you can tutor for Legendary lands as well which is amazing if you're hurting for mana sources.
Just looked at Rivenor's source. What did you really do to the image exactly.. outside of clouds it looks like a straight up crop of a Jasmine's floating head. O.o
So you're creating an army of tokens whatever they may be. What kinds of tokens do you usually use? Are they the official Tokens Wizards provide in packs? or do you u guys use your own unique tokens? Or do you simply use dice.
If you do use unique tokens, can u guys post pics? and or Link to the image if its available online somewhere!
I had taken my Ob nixilis deck appart, but I'm getting renewed faith. Plus it was one of the more fun decks to play. Not to mention no one really plays Ob here so its really underrepresented.
I still have the link to my list if you guys want to check it out. I'll be updating it really soon and i hope to touch base with you guys regarding my soon to come changes.
Nothing too drastic, but it will now involve the inclusion of Sadistic Sacrament to punish the combo player as well as Karn Liberated because this way black gets a way to deal with permanents and doesn't mean we have to run cards like Spine of Ish Sah. I'll go into more details later when I update my list.
And I'm at work right now so I'll also comment on some of your new additions later as well Tom ;]
