How can I tell you without writing? You gonna send me your phone number? Rolleyes

I would at the very least question your use of the term 'racist' as an analogy for hoser cards. This is very wrong. And yes, I disagree with your universal assessment of casual MTG etiquette. But surely you see this a matter of persoal preference and not of fact! (Am I using too many words for you)?

Apologies. I was implying that you would ignore my request and write crap. Which you did of course.

My group has used that term since 94'. I appreciate your concern. We shall continue to use it.

<;I believe you are just screwing with me now. You are as pompous as I and I feel this can't go anywhere but down. I would recommend next time you play casual to inform your little buddies to play as much hateful crap as they would like vs your decks.> Keep at those games all night. If you are as awesome as you seem, you will be falling over with joy as they consistently thrash you. Hehe.

As far as playing racist cards specifically designed to beat a deck in casual magic is a nono. Period. End of.

I'm glad we have you to dictate the terms of casual strategy gaming for the rest of the world.

    Quote from TequilaFlavor
There is no sideboarding before game 1 unless you have some agreement/strange houserule that allows it.

That is 100% true in sanctioned tournaments. In casual, there is no "game one" or "game two" unless you have a specific house rule to mimic tournament structure. Each casual game is it's own entity unless the players involved have an agreement. There are no sideboards either - only tweaking your deck between games (not rounds; games). In fact, Wish spells outside of a tournament can be used to search for any card you own!
In a sanctioned event, a card that's "outside the game" is one that's in your sideboard. In an unsanctioned event, you may choose any card from your collection.

So please refrain from pushing tournament structure to casual games. It's just ignorant.

Am I wrong? Don't barrage us with a bunch of written crap. Tell me if I'm wrong.

As far as I know, there are no racist Magic cards.

    EDIT: Okay, this one is!

Of course using the word racist
Is not the correct way to say it but that's just how we described using cards in casual magic that specifically destroyed ones deck.

To keep the pain to a minimum it's always best to never use side boards in casual play. Let the decks face each other as they are. Our group uses a rule of thumb that we can add any cards to our decks that we want as long as those cards are hateful to any deck.

This is silly. Some mediocre decks can be very nearly unbeatable game 1 for some decks, but are fine matchups post-board. Anyway, your son played cheaply. You should have said no.

    1. I was replying to the op.

    2. You play acid rain or blood moon vs an all green elf deck or a five color dual land deck at your buddies house and see how long before the screams start.

Let me guess. The screams come from you when you realize that you've wasted 4 mana against a deck that doesn't even need it's lands anymore.

That guy I replied to mistook me for being the original poster. As far as playing racist cards specifically designed to beat a deck in casual magic is a nono. Period. End of. Can you do it? Yes. Will you have people to play magic with for long? Debateable. Why? You figure it out.

Its absolutely abhorrent how snobbish and elitist people can be, to a point where it negatively impacts other people. Its true that money is the greatest corrupting force of evil of all time, because this thread is a testament to the absolute worst that the Magic community has to offer.

Those who would simply spite their fellow magic players just to hold onto a little extra 'value' are going to roast in a fire when they die. Utterly disgusting, and those who support the reserved list should be ashamed of themselves.

Well then. I guess there is nothing left to discuss. Thanks for judging and sentencing thousands of people.

I'm a few years older than you and have quit twice. One thing I can promise you is magic will always have a place in your life. Scale back your play. Find a small group you can tolerate. Play only commander. Anything other than quitting all together. I have the feeling you don't want to quit. Give your family, life and practice the time they need but don't deny yourself the little pleasures.

I'm sure that his plan was to resell it rather than scratching that MTG itch.
Really makes you wonder what else he got. Unless they had sealed boxes of Legends or something, he couldn't carry $20k in sealed product. That's 50 boxes of Modern Masters. I'm sure that the estimates are generous and they're reporting MSRP for the laptop and rounding up. A handful of singles or other rare collectibles could make up the difference real fast. Maybe they are misreporting and the total damages are $20k.

    ---Edit---
Also, what state is this in?

Unless he just likes living in the van down by the river.... hehe

  • posted a message on Old art= don't bother
I think a lot of the old artwork was and correct me if I'm wrong more abstract than how it is today which seems more along the lines of figurative. Take word of command as an example. That picture expresses nothing that can be associated with the text. Nowadays, to paint word of command, artists would paint a piece that exhibits a kingly figure screaming while standing over subjects pointing at all of them while they show homage.

As far as digital vs traditional is concerned, I prefer the older style.

Also, I'm sure there are examples of newer art that are more abstract. It's just something I don't see much of currently.

Op, those statements don't work. Barring a few people that MIGHT have cared back in 94, most didn't know or couldn't have predicted where the game would go. It's quite simple. Those who do not have (the majority) do not care about those that do have.

To be fair, if they reprinted all the old cards I own I wouldn't be terribly upset. I love the art work and the nostalgia value. Plus if they reprinted them there would be a better chance to have more events with them.

On the flip side and in fairness to those that do have older valuable cards, let's not ignore the underlying issue with reprinting. Most all payers are at least interested in playing older formats but cant. They refuse to invest in the older cards out of choice/financial reasons. The only true losers in a reprint run are a minority. Nobody cares about this minority if that happens. Until it does, most will continue to hate or be jealous of the minority or atleast refuse to defend them so they can then secretly say 'good' while their cards plummet in value.

He was a casual vintage player. Based on my understanding of how vintage is nowadays, your deck and the hand you had that was full of counterspells would have been the equivalent to you holding poker cards.

Your knowledge of fakes and how to judge them should be proportional to the value of your collection. If you are buying, for example, moxen or expensive legacy staples and having to ask if a card is real or not then I see a big problem.

This whole counterfeit issue has and will always thrive on ignorant consumers.

If it got that bad a solution would be found. It always works out. If this response finds you poorly then by all means panic.

Well said. Once I made it to your punch line though I immediately felt like I was watching a documentary about the downfall of the American dollar which just so happened to be produced by gold speculators.
