Myojin of Night's Reach is played. I play Desertion on it. Does the Myojin get a divinity counter? I'm assuming it doesn't, but would like a clarification.

  • posted a message on Does anyone else dislike altered mtg cards?
Altered arts are cool, but only when both the idea and the execution of the painting is flawless. Even then I'd probably not want it for myself. But I can see the value for the collectors and the alter-artists, to each their own. Personally though, I swear allegiance to collecting foil cards.

I've been meaning to try the alter thing for some time though. Mostly for the challenge, fun and hobby-aspect of it. But not likely for using them myself. The thought is to trade them for foils if I could get skilled enough:)

  • posted a message on Is Inkmoth Nexus worth it?
Inkmoth Nexus is a house in Sharuum. Swing with Cranial Plating is easily 10 poison, or my favorite; sac artifacts to Arcbound ravager then ravager to itself and move modular over to inkmoth.

The fact that boosting for ten with equipments and pump spells in edh isnt that much of a hassle makes the inkmoth a threat to be weary of.

  • posted a message on Grixis, really boring?
I had a similar problem when I started building edh decks.
As my Azami deck fell apart, and I wanted to play the fun blue cards with my favorites from red and black as well. The piled consisted of lots of comes into play effect creatures, a few blue tricks and various utility spells. But the deck had no theme I thought to myself. Since most of the creatures in front of me had some pesky ETB effects, like clones, titans, Body Snatcher, Bogardan Hellkite and similar cards, a plan formed in my head. Abuse these triggers! Thus, to get maximum force I added haste (Lightning greaves, Anger, Sneak Attack & Dragon Breath). The choice of which general to play didnt matter to me until I had some idea of which deck I wanted to play, thus Garza Zol, Plague Queen was chosen to lead my hasty creatureabuse.dec

This post kinda digressed into something else, but what I was trying to say is that think about what you want in your deck before you choose your general. Perhaps grixis really isnt the way to go for your playstyle, I dunno. But in general the way I build my decks is to let the cards choose the general, not the other way around! Smile

  • posted a message on EDH Deckboxes
Personally I use a longbox I won at a sideevent years back. It holds my four doublesleeved edh decks + spare sleeves and tokens perfectly. Though I had to reinforce the edges with tape, else I suppose it would fall apart from wear and tear since its paper. Wizards should make plastic longboxes imo!

  • posted a message on How to keep it fun?
Recently had a lengthy discussion with a edh buddy of mine on this subject. After a match with a nice fellow we met at GP Bochum we felt robbed of gameplay. He had played monoblue with teferi and enough counters/timewalks/palinchrons to do whatever he wanted and stopping the rest of the players from doing anything gamebreaking, without actually finishing us off. In our local playgroup back home it's frowned upon playing that sort of decks, since it feels like only one player actually got to play his/hers game.

But the monoblue player really enjoyed played that game and was sharing stories of the epic moments that deck had played out for him. And the fact that we really didn't want to play another game against that deck (ever!) scared me.
I mean why should'nt that player get to play the deck he/she feels is awesome and really does what that player feels like doing in a game of magic/edh, without the rest of the group whining about it. But bear in mind that I dont thing its okay for said player to bring out the same devestating combodeck in every game either.

My friend and I concluded with our local playgroup beeing a hivemind. And as long as the hivemind decided that your cards are no fun, you dont play them. Instead you should play the color XY goodstuff deck that everyone else is playing. If this trend continues I wouldnt be sure if EDH is the format I want to play anymore.

  • posted a message on Utility lands?
I always run as many utility lands as I possibly can in my edh decks, even if its a tricolor or even fivecolor deck.

The more options and answers in an edh environment the better!

Mosswort Bridge Quite awesome to slam an awesome spell for 2 mana
Spinerock Knoll can be really devestating with wraths or similar spells underneath
Riptide laboratory Keep recurring that Glen Elendra Archmage
Manlands are awesome in any format, especially with Proteus Staff in my opinion

There are lots of utility lands to support your strategies, and I'd recommend playing as many as you can as long as your deck can support them. And try to keep them on theme/synergic with the rest of your deck Wink

  • posted a message on Is your deck too 'pimp'ed out?
I keep trading for foil edh staples and edh playables in general, with an extra focus on my sharuum deck at the moment(8 cards left). And at some point I can build the edh deck I want and have it all foiled right off the bat.

    Foils ftw!

  • posted a message on Dream Halls in EDH
I have a friend who plays this kind of Progenitus deck.
Discard a card on dreamhalls to play him, and another card for Finest Hour, a third for something to give him haste Fires of Yavimaya and slam.

Progenitus is also an insane draw engine with Dreamhalls + Greater Good.

  • posted a message on Best Bant-colored Auras?
Finest Hour Makes your general a huge threat even if the deck is low on creatures.

Consider Decree of Silence as a control element or hard counter.

Oath of Druids to abuse your opponents playing creatures to get the few you have in the deck in play, and makes a nice combo with Replenish.

I second RedPandas suggestion for Kiku, Night's Flower
Great as a general hater and it always lands before your oponent gets his/hers creatures out
