2) Same scenario but this time the Warkite Marauder targets a The Scarab God which is killed as an 0/1 with no abilities. Does the The Scarab God death trigger activate returning it to hand?
3) If I were to take control of a Rekindling Phoenix with Confiscation Coup and it dies in my control, do I get the token? I believe so, but am not sure if the Rekindling Phoenix is returned under my control, if at all, as it does not go to my graveyard.
I actually prefer his mana-base to an evolving wilds mana-base. I thought it would be worse until I started testing it. Aether Hubs have also helped take down bigger creatures with harnessed lightning.
Liliana is great! Its a win-con, removal spell, or soaks up dmg to give us time to stabilize.
I agree that Void Shatter is better than Scatter. Doesnt really need an explanation.
GDD started off as a 2-of for me but is now a 1-of. Keeping it in as a 1-of for now as i sideboard cards like transgress and lost legacy. Still not sure if it's worth the slot.
I said "tops out at 5 mana". Not 5 cmc. You want to hit 5 mana in every game youre playing not only to use multiple modes for Collective Defiance but to be able to activate fumarole, as well as, cast multiple spells for more alchemist triggers. Playing less lands is incorrect IMO.
Vendilion Clique is a beast!!! Overperformed all night. Best play with it: 6 mana vs Infect, he swings with double Inkmoth, I Kommand one of them getting back Clique, flash in Clique, he had nothing in hand so I bottomed my land in hand and got a Bolt, and trade with both lands. That was game 2 of the finals, and it ended quickly from there. I'm in agreement, that Clique should for the most part be a core piece of the deck, that card just does work. And without Probe, it's our only way of getting information. It's just dirty with Kommand also. It's also another 3 power evasive creature, which doesn't hurt.
You, sir, are a cheater. You cant bottom a land with Vclique!
I haven't seen anyone put up good results with this deck so I'm obviously trusting my own judgment on things before anything else.
Haha don't you always trust your own judgment and never listen to anyone else anyway?
I'll be switching over to Jund and Mardu from Grixis (got an offer to trade my baby Jaces for Scalding Tarns that I couldn't refuse). My version of Jund is very Grixis-like. Will post up tournament results and whatnot here. Earliest event for me will be an IQ on the fourth.
Stroke was good against Abzan main but not as good against Bant. Leaving two mana up to potentially stop a coco only to have them play 2 and 3 drops sets you behind a bit. That being said, maindeck Stroke seems ok in the counter heavy build as it lets you diversify your counter suite.
Trangress is great right now, IMO. In the midrange build I'd recommend it over duress. In the counter heavy build duress is probably better main since you have counters to play starting turn 2 and the info you get from a T1 duress can be very useful in knowing what to counter.
From local showings the previous two weeks it seemed like a lot of local players were moving to ramp so I opted for two disdainful strokes main and a reality shift in the board. That came back to bite me in the butt as I didnt play against ramp all weekend.
I had two byes and I ended up paired against Esper Control in round three which ended in a draw putting me in the draw bracket for the rest of the tourney... I played Esper Control again during day 2 and the opponent played at a faster pace. I won that match and he told me after that he playtested with his friends against Grixis variants and lost every match so I guess we are favored there.
My first Day 1 Loss was to Bant Coco in game three where he got way ahead on the board with three consecutive Coco's. I ended 1/3 in the tournament against that deck.
The second Day 1 loss was in the very last round against abzan blue. It was game three and he was at 3 and I was at 1. He was topdecking and I had Cut and Grasp in hand but he topdecked a Rhino and sealed the deal.
I played against Atarka Red once and won by playing a Virulent Plague on turn 3 in game 3.
I played Mardu Green 4 times and won every match. Last loss of the tourney was to a Jeskai Black Variant.
DECK CHOICE IMPRESSIONS:
Disdainful Stoke main didnt seem good. Not in the midrange version I played, anyway.
I was unimpressed with Impulse and wished it was a Grasp multiple times throughout the tourney. Im definitely dropping some number of Impulses and adding some number of Grasps. Need to test configurations.
I thought I wanted a second Dig in the deck multiple times throughout the tournament and am going to add a second for sure. Might swap the Truths to Bones as well. I know it was just variance but in one of my bant coco losses I Truths for 3 and got 3 lands. That was cool.
The singleton Blighted Fen was actually pretty boss. It doesnt seem possible if youre splashing Green but if youre straight Grixis the mana-base is forgiving enough for one.
The Sarkhan was a sideboard Allstar. People just didnt expect it and it won a few games on its own.
Playing in a PPTQ this weekend. Ill play an updated version of my deck there.
Haven't frequented this thread in a while and to my surprise (sarcasm) nothing has changed! People are still coming here with ideas that immediately get shut down by Tiemuuu if they arent his ideal 75. This is developing competitive man. Brew, test, and tune. You havent had a great finish at any event with your 75 so there's obviously room for improvement.
2x Dispel
3x Disdainful Stroke
2x Flaying Tendrils
2x Infinite Obliteration
1x Negate
1x Ob Nixilis Reignited
2x Roast
2x Virulent Plague
what do you thing about it
I think the Flaying tendrils spots would be better off as Radiant Flames. There are a lot of X/3s in the format right now and you are running Kalitas for an exile effect if that is what you were after.
Also, I havent tested a green splash but if you can get the mana to work would Sylvan Advocate be a good addition along with 3-4 manlands? Seems like a good mid/late game K-Command target.
My list ended up evolving from its grixis shell to splashing white for crackling doom, utter end, and shambling vents main. It performed well enough but since I was in the colors there was no reason to not run mantis rider so it further evolved into a jeskai black variant. The Nalaars still mean business post rotation! The Shards colors are so easy mana-wise now that splashing a fourth color isnt overly hard (just requires some thought and practice for tye first few turns). Im not saying going Grixis-X is the right direction but its worth testing.
Running Pearl Lake Ancient in a deck with 20 lands is a mistake. It will be a dead card in your hand for much longer than turn 7. You should figure out what kind of deck you want it to be and then streamline it to that path. Like the previous poster said, it seems to want to do too many different things which makes it do none of them really well.
1) If I were to attack with Warkite Maraudertriggering its ability and targeting a Rekindling Phoenix and then killing the Rekindling Phoenix, would the Rekindling Phoenix ability trigger creating a token?
2) Same scenario but this time the Warkite Marauder targets a The Scarab God which is killed as an 0/1 with no abilities. Does the The Scarab God death trigger activate returning it to hand?
3) If I were to take control of a Rekindling Phoenix with Confiscation Coup and it dies in my control, do I get the token? I believe so, but am not sure if the Rekindling Phoenix is returned under my control, if at all, as it does not go to my graveyard.
Thanks in advance!

Finished 6/2/1 on day 1 making day 2 but had some bad variance day 2 and went 3/3 for the day.
A bit tired so ill post the deck and conclusions at a later date.
