You know, I feel like Explore is just criminally under utilized in decklists... In decks with good manabases I feel like it is a great ramp card that sort of cycles instead later into the game. I really want to start using this card more as I think it is really solid and totally under utilized.

i keep forgetting about this card. ive been running Edge of Autumn in my mono G, but quite honestly, i've never wanted to give up a precious land to cycle it in the late game. i will have to try Explore out, for sure.
    anyways...
    - Big Game Hunter - this dude is similar to Bone Shredder or Shriekmaw, and fits right into reanimator decks likewise, but cannot sac himself like Bone Shredder can. however, there are some nasty creatures in black/artifact that you would want to kill
    - Gleeful Sabotage - athough it's sorcery speed, i love this card because it can 1-shot early mana rocks from the get-go, or it can be a potential Relic Crush later on.
    - Ohran Viper - in monoG/GW/GR or other colors that can use more card draw, i think this is generally a great early creature. not too bad of a top-deck either.

I'm not sure they actually are better than Terramorphic and Wilds unless you're running shocks or duals, and then it's not really a budget manabase

this actually made me laugh. no arguement here Grin
my opinion doesnt change on the fact that they are better than evolving wilds/terra, though. fetching duel lands has proven to be way more valuable to me from my experiences, especially in a 3 colored deck.

  • posted a message on Foils In Multiplayer - Do they matter?
i could see myself being a little bit intimidated by some deck's foil presence, as hard as i would try not to be...
then there are guys like me, who tend to foil out the cheaper cards in their decks, which usually happen to be my favorite pet cards of my decks.
i dont have to justify my intense love for cards like Awakening Zone, Scatter the Seeds, Unmake, Relic Crush, Marshal's Anthem, Wood Elves, etc... Grin

Taj-Nar Swordsmith : waaay worse than stoneforge, but still deserves a mention. skullclamp is always worth tutoring for, afterall.
Mine Excavation : and hey, when your skullclamp eventually gets blown up, get it back! and maybe something else, hopefully. seemingly good in monowhite where card advantage can be tough to generate
Skeletal Scrying : I'm sure alot of people know about this card, but for the few that have overlooked it, it's sweet.
Grasslands : I'm not sure if there is a whole cycle of these things, but they are better than Terramorphic/evolving wilds, and can be a good budget option for a land base.
Scatter the Seeds : Instant speed is where it's at in token themed decks, and this can really catch opponents off guard for that lethal overrun.

proc is definitely not as good as ranger or reveilark in my eyes, but it does add extra redundancy to your gameplan which, if it's important enough to stick these 1 drop dudes, you might as well run it :). i mean, it's awesome card advantage, so why not? i just like the idea of pretty much always being able to have a board position, but that's me. with that said, you should try to fit in Mother of Runes and Hex Parasite, which are some of my favorite 1-drops (alongside Weathered Wayferer). maybe Guul Draz Assassin can be taken out?

Pelakka Wurm is a nice beater.. what about Fracturing Gust? Your artifact/enchantment count is fairly low, so it seems like it could be a house in your build

  • posted a message on How often do you change up your decks?
generally, i only own singletons of the more expensive cards, and i always play the same colors... so i can only have about two decks built at once. fortunately, deckbuilding is something i enjoy alot (even more than playing, sometimes) so forcing myself to dismantle/rebuild my decks whenever i want to sleeve up something again is something i look forward to on a weekly basis.
so, to answer the question, i make pretty good changes (6-10 cards) to my decks about once every weekend

pennon blade and sword of the paruns are pretty neat for sure.. athough i think i have enough pump already, and they are both are easily disrupted by spot removal.
sword of the meek has really got me thinking on how i could possibly abuse it Grin ... but i dont think i can

i think u guys convinced me on SoFaF. thx for the help!

  • posted a message on good equipment suggestions for token-theme?
in my ghave (token-themed), i run stoneforge mystic and steelshaper's gift, and my equipment package is currently skullclamp and lightning greaves..
so i know it's hard to believe, but greaves has been kind of weak in this build. Ghave really doesn't need protection because i primarily drain off all his counters for tokens, and the theme of the deck is to not run any single creature threats... just tokens, so the deck can be resilient against spot removal, control magic, GY steal etc.
i would like to replace greaves with some other synergistic equipment, so what do you guys suggest?

at this point, it's kind of a toss up between:

Sword of Body and Mind; makes tokens, which is awesome,
and the mill could be relevant.
Sword of Feast and Famine; pro colors are really good, and i could always use the extra mana

btw i dont own any of the other swords Frown

Merged double. Please use "EDIT" functionality in the future rather than double posting. -ISB

  • posted a message on Am I crazy for removing Artisan of Kozilek from my deck?
not at all. people call me crazy because i dont run primetime in my ghave deck all the time. i just dont have the room for 6cmc spells that only produce 1 creature in that deck.

  • posted a message on Cards That Prevent You from Sacrificing Creatures
Nevermore? i always thought it could be a funny card to run.
you could try to run more critters to buy you enough time to disenchant ghave's enchantments, or blow up all lands... saffi ericsdotter, dauntless escort, land fetching dorks, Elspeth, etc
I am a strong advocate of Khalni Garden which is a freakin free 0/1 creature that ALSO happens to put a land into play tapped. but i know that doesn't help you much.
imo it seems like you're just always going to have a bad matchup against "make you sac all your stuff" strategies, atleast with the way that you'd want to build something like uril

I totally forgot to mention good art. I've always liked stuff by Richard Kane Ferguson, especially the promo version of Korlash, Heir to Blackblade and Sol'Kanar the Swamp King.

Honorable mention: Oriss, Samite Guardian as the prettiest legend around

woah! ive never even seen the promo korlash.. very insane. but not sure it's better than the original, just for being way brighter.
and nothing beats original akroma as far as prettiest legend imo Grin

I'm in love with Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger's art. it's the scariest looking praetor, and possibly the scariest looking green creature i've ever seen. this opinion may be biased Smile

i even had the pleasure of drawing him in a comic awhile back!
