I've considered lotus bloom before, and decided against it because how slow it is past the earlier turns. I just feel like you want to have minimal dead draws in edh, and bloom seems like one of those cards.
I've never played with mox diamond, but it seems like the ramp by 1 does not justify the card disadvantage.. that is just my opinion, depends on your build, I just play mostly decks that depend on attrition, so.

Apr 4, 2013yah, I totally run greater good already, and it's always insane, but for some reason I forgot that it's actually a discard outlet ontop of being a sac-engine. insane..Posted in: Commander (EDH)
undead gladiator is a very cool card I've never hear of, but perhaps it's tough to beat the utility of tortured existence or nostalgic dreams..
liliana of the veil paired with more GY hate is another cool suggestion.
Apr 3, 2013Im looking to dedicate one more slot for a discard outlet alongside Survival of the Fittest in my Teneb deck, and was wondering what everyone's input would be for that.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Liliana of the Veil is good, but I don't particularly want to feed into opposing reanimation strategies, just myself
So I'm leaning towards Nostalgic Dreams at this point unless someone else has some good recommendations.
Mar 22, 2013tried it in Teneb and it was too slow for me. I figure the card draw could even out a potential 2 for 1, but a 2 for 1 involving your land getting blown up is probably the worst kind. replaced it with Sign in Blood but that should've been in my deck to begin with lolPosted in: Commander (EDH)
Mar 8, 2013some of my favorites:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
saffi eriksdotter (not etb but insanely good utility)
oracle of mul daya (kind of like etb)
angel of serenity
Mar 3, 2013well, I finally got a list together and played it some last night:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
The deck was more powerful than I thought. was able to control out the entire table numerous times with cards like Teferi, Seedborn Muse, Birthing Pod, Opposition etc. My next build I will try a ramp deck running a crap ton of shroud/hexproof creatures that will be a mostly green based deck.

Feb 26, 2013Genra posted a message on Share Your Hidden Gems [First post contains a master list of all Hidden Gem suggestions.]Khalni Garden. auto include in a token shenanigans kinda deck. cipt but the free 0/1 might be something your deck wants if you have skull clamp and multiple ways to tutor it. also nice to defend a planeswalker, or spells that make you sac stuff, and birthing pod chains with 1 mana creatures I guess.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 18, 2013so ive been spending a good amount of time brainstorming this deck which will probably consist of a good amount of utility creatures, lots of instant speed interaction (flash guys, bounce, removal, counters, draw) and some fat. this brings up another question:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
what are the best ways for me to win? we have infinite combos banned in our meta.. so do i just rely on fatties to grind out the game after i draw tons of cards? or try to copy timewarps dozens of times?
Feb 15, 2013Posted in: Commander (EDH)3. Simic Beatdown. Play the most efficient fatty beaters in the colour. Simic Skyswallower, Terra Stomper, Vorapede, Inkwell Leviathan etc. Using fast spells like Sol Ring, Somberwald Sage, Sacellum Godspeaker to power them out. And cast Zegana for hand refill and another fatty. I just built this deck last night. Not sure how it plays but I'm really happy with it because it allows me to play all of those epic fatties that don't generate "value".
this seems like a cool build. hope to get some feedback when you finally get around to playing it
Feb 15, 2013thanks everyone. I think I like the idea of of trying to set up little engines with etb critters. so it will probably be a combination of that, some fatties here and there, and the good flash like massive Marc mentioned. nevertheless it's going to have a crap ton of creatures. will post list once I complete it.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 14, 2013Hi, I'm looking to build a Simic deck with Prime Speaker Zegana at the helm. Now, having never playing simic colors, or blue, to be specific, I wanted to get people's or other Zegana players advice as far as the best approach for a good build.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
My first thought was a nice control build with counters, plenty of draw, and a variety of finishers, but realized that maybe it's not quite what I wanted to be doing in simic.
So my second thought was a ramp deck that tried to power out fatties and shroud/hexproof creatures and the likes. I'm leaning more towards this plan, but with the limited amount of knowledge I have with blue's card pool, I'm finding it difficult knowing how to build the deck.
So I would just like to ask everyone if they had any cool ideas or interactions that would help me with this deck. anything at all would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Dec 20, 2012Genra posted a message on New Standard topdecks upon GTC release speculationPosted in: New Card DiscussionQuote from trainwreckaWhen was the last time a solid UB control was in Standard? Faeries?
like during SoM/INN. check Grand Prix Baltimore 2012. Then there were the Teferi decks after they printed Trading Post
Sep 30, 2012I took 2nd place with golgari splashing white. If you ask me, Golgari seemed the most versatile in this format, with the possibility of having a decent aggro game, or midrange/control plan. Stonefare crocodile, that new giant spider, Stab wound, and giant growth are some really good commonsPosted in: Limited Archives
Sep 30, 2012Went junk colors.Posted in: Limited Archives
Korozda guildmage was obviously great. Particularly the intimidate ability when so many people picked izzet.
Stonefare crocodile was also really strong. 3cc to Lifelink 3 power turned out to be a bargain, especially in a format with giant growth and other really good green pump.
Sep 2, 2012I played the following deck for the first time at this past FNM.Posted in: Standard Archives
The deck is very fun to play and tweak, and contains just about every single one of my favorite cards in standard. It's got good game against aggro, and can definitely go up against control with the help of some of the best planeswalkers in standard.
Against Delver.. idk, I haven't faced Delver with this deck yet, seems like kind of a bad matchup, but hopefully the Cavern of Souls and Missteps post board can help.
Here is the FNM Report (from what I can remember)
round 1 - vs Goblins
i get stuck on 3 lands during game 1 while he pumps out Goblin Arsonists, Goblin Fireslingers, and Chieftains. I am able to stall a few turns with a couple Elvish Visionary (cantripping zero lands) and Lingering Souls but Chieftain and a bunch of other goblins end up killing me.
-1 Oblivion Ring
-1 Garruk Relentless
-1 Sigarda, Host of Herons
-2 Go For the Throat
+3 Celestial Purge
+2 Day of Judgment
game 2 I get stuck on 3 lands again, missing land drops for three turns. I have alot of action at 3cmc, however, and it buys me enough time until I rip the fourth land to inevitably cast Day of Judgment and literally put him in top deck mode (my life total being at 11 or something at this point). After that was Sorin, Lord of Innistrad followed by Lingering Souls followed be Gideon Jura and Sorin emblem ftw.
game 3 I get stuck on 3 lands AGAIN, but this time only missing a land drop for two turns. same deal, had the early creatures, then DoJ, then thragtusk, then win.
2-1 W - In hindsight, should've boarded out the O-rings, but I was pretty darn afraid of the red shrine, which I never saw. Either way, this matchup shouldn't be too bad.
Round 2 was against monoblack Zombies running lashwrithes, Bloodthrone vampires, and Vampire Nighthawks (I think out of the board).
he curves out with Diregraf Goul, Blood Artist, and Geralf's Messenger while I get stuck on 3 lands for the 4th game in a row. It was painful :). Eventually I topdecked the fourth land and got close to stabilizing, but it wasn't enough.
- 1 Doom Blade
- 2 Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
- 1 Sigarda, Host of Herons
- 1 Lingering Souls
+ 1 Oblivion Ring
+ 3 Celestial Purge
+ 1 Day of Judgment
game two he curves out pretty well again this time with turn 1 Gravecrawler, and I curve out perfectly as well. Elvish Visionary slows down Gravecrawler, he casts Bloodthrone Vampire which I don't care about and cast Lingering Souls, then comes Messenger, which I gang block, and the Day of Judgment next turn for a clean sweep, followed by Gideon and Garruk Relentlesscloses out the game.
game 3 was pretty long, we both curve out, but I have no black mana with Go for the Throat in hand, but I do have early purge and Oring against Blood Artist and Messenger, which gives me enough time to cast a fifth turn Garruk Relentless. I get the edge with a Thragtusk (gets double Tragic Slipped after something dies) and a couple Restoration Angels (first one gets Tragic Slipped) and a Sigarda, while he has two Vampire Nighthawks to stop my attacks. Garruk fights a Diregraf Goul or something and goes down to 1 loyalty. It's somewhat stalemate for the next few turns with me playing quite defensively. I eventually draw another Gofer, and finally a black source. Gofer takes out Nighthawk 1. He top decks Lashwrithe, and equips to Nighthawk which I respond with second Gofer. Then Garruk Ultimate leads to 40 something damage for the win.
2-1 W. Not sure this deck is as good as BR, BU, or Pod variants of Zombie, but I'm still confidant in my Zombie matchup post sideboard.
Round 3 Was against Tezzeret Post. game 1 was long. I kept triple O-ring in the opening hand while he had double ratchet bomb, which he ticked up the first, and kept the second at zero. I apply early pressure with cantrip guys with a fourth turn Garruk, and he proceeds to go double Solemn Simulacrum which stops my attacks. I cast 4th turn Garruk, then 5th turn Gideon and start forcing his Solems at me so I could get in. I end up grinding him out after Oringing his Wurmcoil Engine.
-2 Day of Judgment
-2 Go For the Throat
-1 Doom Blade
+1 Oblivion Ring
+2 Celestial Purge
+1 Garruk Relentless
Game two was even longer. I opened with triple Elvish Visionary. He drops Tezzeret on his 4th turn and digs, and I have two visionaries down. Despite him having an Inkmoth, I run out Sorin and -2 emblem to take out the Tezzeret, my Sorin falling prey to the Inkmoth on his next turn. My next turn I Cast Elvish Visionary and Oring targeting something i dont remember, followed by Resto Angel the next turn, but he answers with Black Sun's Zenith. He eventually casts a Trading Post which I Oring, then he plays Spine of IshSa to blow up that Oring. As he stabilizes and begins to bury me in card advantage with Trading Post, the store owner calls "Time" and he is not able to kill me in five turns.
1-0 W. this matchup was the toughest I had all night, making me wish I had more things in my sideboard against control.
My opponent and I drew in on Round 4.
Round 5 was against a different Goblin deck. I mulled to 6 on the play, and kept a risky hand of 4 white cards, a Borderland Ranger, a Gavony Township, and a Woodland Cemeterary. athough I eventually drew a land, double Goblin Grenade ended me.
-2 Oblivion Ring
-1 Sigarda, Host of Herons
-2 Go For the Throat
+3 Celestial Purge
+2 Day of Judgment
game two gave me a far better hand, with a day of judgment and double Lingering Souls in opening hand. I stopped his offense very quickly with multiple Lingering Souls and Blade Splicer. on turn 5 he had two Goblin Fireslingers, and a Goblin Arsonist with three cards in hand.. I was at exactly 14 life with a Thragtusk, Day of Judgment, and a Gideon Jura in my hand. I decided that I wanted to get him to commit atleast one more creature to the board to set up DoJ, and casted Gideon Jura. second big mistake. my opponent went firesling, firesling, incinerate, untap, double Goblin Grenade and I was suddenly at -1 life.
0-2 L. As frustrating as it was, I forgot the golden rule against RDW and playing as safe as you can.
All in all the deck played fairly well, athough I did not get to play against Delver, which probably would be one of the tougher matchups. The mana base was awesome, and only color screwed me in one game (which was not an issue). I believe I sideboarded incorrectly a couple of times, removing PWs from the main. and 25 lands is absolutely what this deck wants. In the future I think I would like to cut down to just one Sigarda because she was not all that necessary all the time. If I can ever obtain a second Thragtusk, he would replace her in a heartbeat.
Aug 18, 2012A standard deck I plan on running at FNMs.Posted in: Standard Archives
Unfornutately, I do not own more than 1 Thragtusk, and more than two Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, which I would happily replace the third Garruk Relentless for.
Mana can sometimes be slow, but that's wedge for you. Been thinking of trying to cram in a Vault of the Archangel.
Been going back and forth with the third O-ring in the main.. perhaps a third Doj?
Sideboard is also questionable; I just haven't played the deck enough to understand the matchups yet. I guess I'll find out when I run it next week
Mar 30, 2012Multani, Maro-Sorcerer can be a GIGANTIC shroud man.. but will probably anti-synergize with a deck that wants to abuse his size.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Molimo, Maro-Sorcerer probably fits your game plan.. trample is nice.
Myojin of Life's Web is awesome
Ayumi, the Last Visitor is a 7 power for only 5cmc
Terastodon should probably be in there
...and apparently i can only think of green cards (:
EDIT: there are also a good amount of huge creatures that are really cheap, but usually have a horrible downfall, such as:
to a lesser extent:
also, i know you said creatures that "get" massive, so sorry if these arent quite what u are looking for
Mar 30, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)I am dying to try this out (Angelic Renewel). They bring each other back! It's like a permanent rez shield for him.
gahh me too!! I had it in my Teneb for like a minute.. then took it out. It seems to get outclassed by all the other recursion spells in GWB colors, but then again, I don't have infinite combos in my deck.. i'll probably try it in the next G/W or monoW deck I build
Mar 30, 2012here are some cards that can conveniently sac themselves:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
i guess only some of these are playable, but most of the good cards i can think of have been mentioned..
Necrotic Sliver, Aura of Silence, and Strip Mine win my vote in RWB
Mar 29, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)I have been looking into doing this same thing. I really like playing different decks every few weeks to keep my playgroup on their toes but Gaea's Cradle is expensive and I need it for several decks I want to build. I would love to see your list. Another poster did an EDH cube which was what inspired me.
I just switch over cards from deck to deck. it takes like 1 minute to take 5 or so cards out from one sleeve, and move it into 5 other sleeves. drawback being you have to carry edh decks with empty sleeves around, and can't lend them to people. i just can't justify owning more than one copy of an expensive card in a singleton format, but then again it's not like i have 15 edh decks built at any give time (:
Mar 28, 2012Genra posted a message on Share Your Hidden Gems [First post contains a master list of all Hidden Gem suggestions.]Posted in: Commander (EDH)Though I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet, Ashes to Ashes looks like a great card in the format. I haven't seen it in many decklists, though. I don't know what the difference between an MCD and an SCD is, but when I figure it out, I might post one on this card.
I've had it played on me, and it was pretty good. It's really strong in mono black, where you want the exiling, but it's yet another kill-yourself-spell to tack on to all the other awesome spells that kill you in black.
also, don't forget Dust to Dust, either. this card I can get behind
Mar 26, 2012Karador as a general.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
just kidding. i dont know what the best recursion engine is, but my favorite enabler is Sun Titan. so good with so many things like angelic renewal, Animate Dead, Stripmine, Saffi Eriksdotter, Aura of Silence, Necrotic Sliver, etc etc...
Mar 26, 2012Planar PortalPosted in: Commander (EDH)
Eye of Ugin (assuming youll be running eldrazi)
Decree of Justice
Strength of the Tajuru
there also various token producers with good mana sinks, but not sure what ur going for:
Verdeloth the Ancient
Wolfbriar Elemental (green only)
nemata, grove guardian
thats all i can think of so far (:
EDIT: I would also highly recommend Army of the Damned and Increasing Ambition, which are simply awesome with big mana
Mar 23, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)Finally, Rith's Charm provides a fairly unique effect (instant speed land destruction) alongside the ability to make chump blockers or protect yourself from shroud creatures, in a pinch. Better then you'd think.
100% agree. i ran both this and naya charm when i played naya tokens. loved them.
also, evolution charm is not bad at all in a monogreen build.
Mar 22, 2012Teneb:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
1. ramp a little, tutor for some stuff, kill some stuff
2. find some good draw/draw engine, replenish hand
3. drop some bombs, reanimate them
note: these phases are probably universal for MANY edh decks
Mar 22, 2012i'm more of a fan of straight up land ramp over anything else. mana rocks/enchantments getting wrathed away in one turn is far too crippling. these Overgrowth type enchantments also make it harder to hold up mana during other people's turns, if that even matters too much in monoG.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
mana doublers are a different story, and is highly recommended. you only have to cast one to go crazy, and they are highly threatening.
for ramp, i say run ATLEAST:
Yavimaya Elder (not ramp, but 3 cards for one)
oh and sol ring, of course
as far as creatures, my list has pretty much evolved into 90% utility creatures. you really want that in mono green.
check out my list, or Slivortal's... who is usually all over any topic that has to do with mono green.
Mar 22, 2012i hate not being able to untap it any other time but my upkeep. seriously, i like grim and basalt better, but even then i have a tough time running "every other turn" ramp then just straight up land ramp.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
some decks want them for sure, though
Mar 21, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)how much is too much to be able to kill a creature every turn? I mean, Visara and Avatar of Woe do it for free (minus the cost to get them out), but are more vulnerable, as creatures. If you wanted a non-creature solution (that wasn't Legacy Weapon - not a five-color deck), what would it be?
probably depends on your list. i usually avoid 7cmc removal, but thats just me. my friends mono Black utilizes cards like these to be able to answer artifacts/enchantments, but his build is all about Cabal Coffers and mana doublers so.... yah. if your deck ramps like crazy, then by all means, run them, but i'd still rather power out an eldrazi or something if im going down that route.
Mar 21, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)I don't play Rakdos in mine, or Kaervek. It's relatively tame. I play several group-hug effects like Seizan, Perverter of Truth, and I've generally been against land destruction because I've no desire to restrict the ability of the players, because we're not playing for money or anything, we just want our spells to resolve, right?
WHAT YOU DONT PLAY RAKDOS?? just kidding :). i respect that. sorry about the accusation. i just assumed every single kaalia deck ran rakdos
Mar 21, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)I find myself in the situation a lot where I'm hammered because I could theoretically play something for free if my general makes it back to my turn and attacks, yet I have not seen anything degenerate enough to warrant it
sneaking in Rakdos the Defiler after attacks is quite degenerate (athough he proabably aint swinging again after that)
perhaps you could run more ways to cheat your fatties into play like Urza's Incubator or quicksilver amulet. i know you said they hate out your artifacts, but white has some pretty good enchantment/artifact recursion.
you are also in the best reanimation colors, so that could be something... athough getting the fatties out is probably the first step.
Mar 20, 2012well, personally, i would stick with GWB for the amazing token support that black has to offer:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
Army of the Damned
...and all the tutors, card draw, removal, etc
i've tried rith, and there were some good cards in red, like Sunforger, Titanic Ultimatum, Glory of Warfare, Kher Keep, Shared Animosity, Naya Charm...
but card for card, Ghave is waaaayyy better than Rith, and black is such an awesome color
Mar 20, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)Odds are most people are already playing Asuza, Lost but Seeking, if you're not, add this card now in place of Prime
only if u are already running oracle of mul daya
and the white/green dude is knight of the reliquary. --> EDIT: ninjaed. twice. i knew i would have to be fast
i have to agree that sun titan is a great replacement, but i would imagine most decks that have white in them are already running him. seriously, even just getting fetches back every turn is good enough, i mean, he's a 6/6 vigilance as it is.
Mar 20, 2012so i wanted to follow up on this thread with my results from this past weekendPosted in: Commander (EDH)
i went with Leyline of Sanctity, ivory mask, imp's mischief, and dawn charm for the "anti-discard" and it ended up working very well for me. the enchantments never got removed after i casted them, and even forced one person to bojuka bog someone else's GY (which was quite irrelevant) rather than mine. i was able to use imp's mischief to redirect a removal spell to save my teneb at one point, and dawn charm was able to fog a lethal thraximunder swing, which kept me in the game to win a turn after.
all in all, these cards all did great things, and didn't just sit dead in my hand, and i would like to thank everybody for all the contributions
Mar 19, 2012skullclamp, greater good, phyrexian arena, and sylvan library seem like the top performers here.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
personally, i like harmonize and ambition's cost (and that other black one, whatever it is), especially after a farseek or whatever.
skeletal scrying, athough i was skeptical at first, has been very solid for me so far. i would recomend it if you have a good amount of fetches and cheap spells.
Mar 18, 2012Genra posted a message on Share Your Hidden Gems [First post contains a master list of all Hidden Gem suggestions.]in run both miraculous and mannequin in my teneb. instant speed Avenger of Zendikar is crazinessPosted in: Commander (EDH)
Mar 16, 2012Angelic RenewalPosted in: Commander (EDH)
as far as reanimation spell, this card might have trouble finding a home in decks with access to black, but it's pretty good with my favorite titan of all. almost like a Saffi number 2.
Mar 16, 2012if u have a big kresh, and youre not afraid to enchant him, i say go big or go home;Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Runes of the Deus
but quite honestly, rancor is probably one of the better auras to give something trample. and if u want to protect him, cauldron of souls, like above poster said, is generally awesome
Mar 14, 2012seriously?? "she's" in the top 50?? darn, shouldve checkedPosted in: Commander (EDH)
with shame, i also contribute
Imp's Mischief in decks without blue. interacts with tons of random spells, and can be really unexpected
Mar 14, 2012Saffi Eriksdotter is well-known, but the little man really deserves to be in more GWx decks that have awesome creatures. good removal protection that can be creature-tutored and/or reanimated is very good utility for a two mana chumpPosted in: Commander (EDH)
Please refrain from well known widely used cards in the Hidden Gems page. While you might really enjoy a card it doesnt make it a hidden gem. -ISB
Mar 14, 2012mana-doublers are bombs that usually need to be answered. i run vernal bloom, gauntlet of power, caged sun and mana reflection in mono green, and i usually throw in mirari's wake (the best one :D) in every multicolored deck i build, even if i feel the deck doesn't need it. near-infinite mana is just too good if it sticks. but yah, outside of monoG, i tend to shy away from mana reflection or any othersPosted in: Commander (EDH)
edit: unacceptable amount of typos
Mar 14, 2012two zombifys glued into one card? in my very honest opinion, it's the best reanimation spell in edh. sure you cant hit opponents GYs with it, but if you are running reanimation in these colors, u probably have some good bombs of your own anyways. i respect anybody else's disagreements, but i just have to say it once more, it's the best reanimation spell in edhPosted in: Commander (EDH)
Mar 14, 2012i completely second mistveil plains. it's nice to have a land that could potentially protect you from GY stealing, or simply recycling random stuff.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Buried Ruins is great because youre running skullclamp. youre running skullclamp, right?
Mar 14, 2012gelatinous genesis is really good.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Strength of the Tajuru
tower of fortunes
you could also try citanul flute or planor portal, but i've never been much of a fan of either.
oh, and there's always adding regrowth so that you can simply recast one of your big spells
Mar 13, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)In teneb, if you want to make someone discard, don't Persecute them.
Go the whole hog and Identity Crisis them.
It's harsh but my word does it work.
Dawn Charm should also work for stopping spell-based discard from hitting you, just throwing it out there.
Its other two uses are also both handy to have as options.
identity crisis was my first candidate for my one slot discard, and i know how powerful it is, but i really only have interest in aiming my discard spell at mr. discard, so i went with the cheaper persecute. plus with four 2cmc or less ramp spells, there's a slight chance i might be able to pull it off 3rd turn.
but dawn charm... holy crap i forgot about dawn charm! particularily my foil one that's been collecting dust in my stack of white cards. this is exactly what i was looking for thx
Mar 13, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)Since your general is Teneb, you might want the "You gain hexproof" options for the added benefit of saying "Screw you, Nihil Spellbomb and Bokuja Bog." And probably a bunch of other cards.
this is actually a great point that I've never considered.. GY hate is not as prominent as it probably should be amongst my friends, but i am quite sure mr. discard at least runs Bojuka. at this point, i'm thinking leyline and witchane orb, just to mix it up. it's just too bad it doesnt protect me from things like animate dead and beacon of unrest...
i hear persecute naming black is pretty damaging vs mono black decks
personally, i'm not that big of a fun of discarding people, but this is DEFINITELY going in against him as my only one.
what the... what a wierd card
Genesis is in because i'm running survival of the fittest. flashback spells are army of the damned and unburial rites
Pure intentions is one of those cards i keep thinking of running, but dont. i just dont like how they still get to see your hand.. but i guess thats better than being hand-less..
thx for the great ideas!
Mar 13, 2012ok, so there is a mono black dude in my playgroup that runs alot of discard. Mind Sludge, Persecute, Mind Twist, Mind Shatter, Monomania, and even the 1 for 1s like thought seize and duress. most of the time, i can somewhat recover if he hits me, but i am building teneb good stuff for next weekend, and would like to actually dedicate some slots to defend against these cards.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Leyline of Sanctity and Ivory Mask are the obvious ones, but I would only be interested in running leyline because it really doesn't do anything against other opponents. so i was interested to see if there was some neat tech out there that i didnt know about. the only thing i've comeup with so far is imp's mischief
Mar 9, 2012there is one dude in my playgroup that has a skittles deck that literally runs almost every single one shot discard spell that he can (thoughtseize, duress, and the mass ones: Mind Sludge, Mind Twist, etc). sometimes it can feel "toxic" when he ramps into one of the X discards and hits me on 3rd turn or something, but most of the time, he'll go after my buddies Thrax deck because it has a few counterspells in it :D. it's actually turned out to be a pretty fun aspect of our playgroup, encouraging other people to run redirect effects and such, which always have hilarious potential.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Mar 9, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)You know, I feel like Explore is just criminally under utilized in decklists... In decks with good manabases I feel like it is a great ramp card that sort of cycles instead later into the game. I really want to start using this card more as I think it is really solid and totally under utilized.
i keep forgetting about this card. ive been running Edge of Autumn in my mono G, but quite honestly, i've never wanted to give up a precious land to cycle it in the late game. i will have to try Explore out, for sure.
- Big Game Hunter - this dude is similar to Bone Shredder or Shriekmaw, and fits right into reanimator decks likewise, but cannot sac himself like Bone Shredder can. however, there are some nasty creatures in black/artifact that you would want to kill
- Gleeful Sabotage - athough it's sorcery speed, i love this card because it can 1-shot early mana rocks from the get-go, or it can be a potential Relic Crush later on.
- Ohran Viper - in monoG/GW/GR or other colors that can use more card draw, i think this is generally a great early creature. not too bad of a top-deck either.
Mar 7, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)I'm not sure they actually are better than Terramorphic and Wilds unless you're running shocks or duals, and then it's not really a budget manabase
this actually made me laugh. no arguement here
my opinion doesnt change on the fact that they are better than evolving wilds/terra, though. fetching duel lands has proven to be way more valuable to me from my experiences, especially in a 3 colored deck.
Mar 7, 2012i could see myself being a little bit intimidated by some deck's foil presence, as hard as i would try not to be...Posted in: Commander (EDH)
then there are guys like me, who tend to foil out the cheaper cards in their decks, which usually happen to be my favorite pet cards of my decks.
i dont have to justify my intense love for cards like Awakening Zone, Scatter the Seeds, Unmake, Relic Crush, Marshal's Anthem, Wood Elves, etc...
Mar 7, 2012Taj-Nar Swordsmith : waaay worse than stoneforge, but still deserves a mention. skullclamp is always worth tutoring for, afterall.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Mine Excavation : and hey, when your skullclamp eventually gets blown up, get it back! and maybe something else, hopefully. seemingly good in monowhite where card advantage can be tough to generate
Skeletal Scrying : I'm sure alot of people know about this card, but for the few that have overlooked it, it's sweet.
Grasslands : I'm not sure if there is a whole cycle of these things, but they are better than Terramorphic/evolving wilds, and can be a good budget option for a land base.
Scatter the Seeds : Instant speed is where it's at in token themed decks, and this can really catch opponents off guard for that lethal overrun.
Mar 3, 2012proc is definitely not as good as ranger or reveilark in my eyes, but it does add extra redundancy to your gameplan which, if it's important enough to stick these 1 drop dudes, you might as well run it :). i mean, it's awesome card advantage, so why not? i just like the idea of pretty much always being able to have a board position, but that's me. with that said, you should try to fit in Mother of Runes and Hex Parasite, which are some of my favorite 1-drops (alongside Weathered Wayferer). maybe Guul Draz Assassin can be taken out?Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 29, 2012generally, i only own singletons of the more expensive cards, and i always play the same colors... so i can only have about two decks built at once. fortunately, deckbuilding is something i enjoy alot (even more than playing, sometimes) so forcing myself to dismantle/rebuild my decks whenever i want to sleeve up something again is something i look forward to on a weekly basis.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
so, to answer the question, i make pretty good changes (6-10 cards) to my decks about once every weekend
Feb 25, 2012instant speed could be nice, but as far as ramp that accels you once, i've always went with 2cmc spells, just for the potential of having a solid 4 mana play on turn 3 (unless you want to net a creature out of it like wood elves or something)Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 24, 2012pennon blade and sword of the paruns are pretty neat for sure.. athough i think i have enough pump already, and they are both are easily disrupted by spot removal.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
sword of the meek has really got me thinking on how i could possibly abuse it ... but i dont think i can
i think u guys convinced me on SoFaF. thx for the help!
Feb 23, 2012in my ghave (token-themed), i run stoneforge mystic and steelshaper's gift, and my equipment package is currently skullclamp and lightning greaves..Posted in: Commander (EDH)
so i know it's hard to believe, but greaves has been kind of weak in this build. Ghave really doesn't need protection because i primarily drain off all his counters for tokens, and the theme of the deck is to not run any single creature threats... just tokens, so the deck can be resilient against spot removal, control magic, GY steal etc.
i would like to replace greaves with some other synergistic equipment, so what do you guys suggest?
at this point, it's kind of a toss up between:
Sword of Body and Mind; makes tokens, which is awesome,
and the mill could be relevant.
Sword of Feast and Famine; pro colors are really good, and i could always use the extra mana
btw i dont own any of the other swords
Merged double. Please use "EDIT" functionality in the future rather than double posting. -ISB
Feb 23, 2012Genra posted a message on Am I crazy for removing Artisan of Kozilek from my deck?not at all. people call me crazy because i dont run primetime in my ghave deck all the time. i just dont have the room for 6cmc spells that only produce 1 creature in that deck.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 23, 2012Nevermore? i always thought it could be a funny card to run.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
you could try to run more critters to buy you enough time to disenchant ghave's enchantments, or blow up all lands... saffi ericsdotter, dauntless escort, land fetching dorks, Elspeth, etc
I am a strong advocate of Khalni Garden which is a freakin free 0/1 creature that ALSO happens to put a land into play tapped. but i know that doesn't help you much.
imo it seems like you're just always going to have a bad matchup against "make you sac all your stuff" strategies, atleast with the way that you'd want to build something like uril
Feb 23, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)I totally forgot to mention good art. I've always liked stuff by Richard Kane Ferguson, especially the promo version of Korlash, Heir to Blackblade and Sol'Kanar the Swamp King.
Honorable mention: Oriss, Samite Guardian as the prettiest legend around
woah! ive never even seen the promo korlash.. very insane. but not sure it's better than the original, just for being way brighter.
and nothing beats original akroma as far as prettiest legend imo
Feb 23, 2012I'm in love with Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger's art. it's the scariest looking praetor, and possibly the scariest looking green creature i've ever seen. this opinion may be biasedPosted in: Commander (EDH)
i even had the pleasure of drawing him in a comic awhile back!
Feb 23, 2012I almost posted a SCD thread for Creeping Renaissance. curious to know if anyone uses it, myself.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
If you want my opinion, i'd say Restock is better, despite not having flashback, because you can snag ANY card (not limited to just permanents), and both these cards cmc are pretty expensive anyways, so i'm not sure i would ever see myself flashing back the renaissance.
Feb 22, 2012i just converted my g/w rhys to ghave not too long ago (no infinites as well), and i really can't say enough about the awesome flashback token producers that INN block has given us so far:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Lingering Souls, Army of the Damned, and Increasing Devotion are seriously the best one shot (two shot?) token makers i've ever seen (athough Martial Coup is high up there, also.)
As far as continuous token making, Bitterblossom and Sacred Mesa are the obvious ones, athough the Mesa can be underwhelming without a lot of mana.
Also, I really like Promise of Bunrei, because it can act as wrath recovery OR instant token production, which is solid.
Like RedPanda said, though, Ghave is the true token god. having enough mana to drain him at opponent's eot or in response to spot removal is very strong, and having big mana cards (Earthcraft, Gaea's Cradle, Mirari's Wake) will let you kill him off and recast him multiple times a turn.
Feb 22, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)Not exactly ramp, but on theme and hasn't been mentioned yet: Krosan Tusker.
Tusker is awesome. i dont know how many times i've tutored for him with fierce empath just to cycle him. the 6/5 body, however, has only been relevant once so far (only target for artisan)
Feb 22, 2012shroud/hexproof all the way for me. seriously, it eliminates some of the more nastier things that can happen to your creatures, which is tuck, exile, and control magic. (yes, i do realize that hallowed burial and final judgment are cards). indestructible is nice, but the only wrath "protection" i ever want is cards like greater good, cauldron of souls, or fecundityPosted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 22, 2012in tri colored, it's always farseek, nature's lore, sakura-tribe elder, kodama's reach, cultivate, and yavimaya elder for me, so, the best ones, really. and I usually try to fit in Mirari's wake as my one mana doubler.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 21, 2012i dont know if u r playing white, but what about something like Academy Rector? He can fetch you something that can get you back in the game after mass LD like Endless Horizons, Sylvan Library, or Debtor's KnellPosted in: Commander (EDH)
edit: Twilight Shepherd can get back all your permanents! Some of the other Persist and Undying creatures "technically" survive thru a wrath as well
another edit: also, you might already be considering this, but PWs might be good with jokulhaups-type cards. Gideon Jura is a beatstick, and Garruk, Primal Hunter or Jace, the Mind Sculptor seem really solid after a wipe.
Feb 20, 2012Tolsimir Wolfblood. I was trying to go a token route, and Tolsimir was not good at all for me. after one game i realized how much better Rhys is, and played that deck for a good 8 months. Now, it's evolved into Ghave tokens, which seems to the best as far as tokens go.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 20, 2012personally, Vorinclex has been amazing for me as a general. definitely has potential to force opponents into a lose lose situation, and repeatedly casting him can be downright crippling.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
with that said, i do think you want to have the right deck for him. If your deck is all about huge bombs, he will fit right in. (and could possibly be one of the best). like Revolver said, you would definitely want to set him up somehow, whether it be hexproof, indestructible, or instant speed protection (Not of This World!!!! lol)
Feb 18, 2012wow, Mask of Memory is PERFECT for what i want! gives me value while I discard..and can be tutored with Stoneforge.. totally forgot about this cardPosted in: Commander (EDH)
Hermit Druid is hilariously awesome for an all-in dredge, totally slipped my mind as well. just might have to pick up one..
thx guys, i knew you'd come through with great suggestions
Feb 18, 2012So I'm planning on building a Karador deck with a strong reanimation theme, and wanted a few cards that can discard bombs out of my hand for some kind of value. so far, I have stumbled across:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Anybody have any other suggestions for these types of cards? thx
Feb 16, 2012thrax 100% no contest, especially in a control build.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
'course.. maybe in some wonky combo deck garza could shine, idk
my buddy runs thrax in a blue-based control deck, with light recursion, but most of the time he just buries people with card advantage
Feb 13, 2012Genra posted a message on Building Ghave with a focus on +1/+1 and Token Sac'ingIf you are looking for other ways to sac tokens for profit, Mind Slash and Sadistic Hypnotist are good for controlling people's hands. ....downside being that discard can draw alot of hatePosted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
Feb 5, 2012My playgroup has no mass LD or infintes, so with that said:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Consecrated Sphinx - it's a toss-up between PT, but honestly, sphinx always seems to generate way more card advantage than PT, especially in a dedicated blue-based control deck.
Survival of the Fittest - is probably too good
Demonic Tutor - is probably too good
Jan 27, 2012yah, i really can't argue with the fact that I would always rather have a Skyshroud Claim than a Wildspeaker.. but Primal Hunter has been nuts for me personally, one of the better PWs in this format in my opinion because the -3 is such a good non-ultimate abiltity.. Sorin kinda takes the cake at this particular attribute, though for surePosted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
edit: Sorin MARKHOV to be specific... have to remember that there is now two of these guys.
Jan 27, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)Ironically, by having additional cards in his deck, he's actually lowering the probability of drawing any one specific card; thus his deck is worse off than if he had 100 cards.
I would enforce 100 cards if a player came to the table with less than 100 has he is increasing the probability of executing his wincons.
If he wants to play with a worse deck in a casual game, why not let him?
On that note, I said casual game. If it's an 'official casual game' as opposed to a 'casual casual game' (is there a difference? ) then he should probably just make his deck 100 cards.
If his entire meta uses 101 cards, so what? They can. My meta doesn't use general damage. I guess officially that means we're not technically playing EDH, but I say 'meh' to that. It's a casual game. If I went to the LGS and pulled out a deck, I most certainly would expect to be playing with general damage. It is in the rules after all.
this is kind of been my mindset, but unfortunately, Jivanmukta and others are absolutely correct on that it is a form of cheating, and it's something i cannot argue, and this is exactly why i posted this thread. i'll probably just cut a land or something everytime i play with people outside my playgroup
Jan 27, 2012agree with Killane on Vess, she can almost take over a game if she lives.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Vampiric tutor is insane.
Beseech the Queen is the worst tutor because you have to reveal lol, but thats my opinion, but still awesome especially for a cheap spell
my friend's monoblack used to play demonic collusions, and then it got countered (with buyback) for the record there was no GY shenanigans, so i guess he shouldnt have casted it.
also agree with Increasing Ambition being potentially good
Rune-scarred Demon has being absolutely insane in my playgroup
..aaand Imperial Seal and Grim Tutor are stupid expensive, but we all know that ;D
Jan 27, 2012Posted in: Multiplayer Commander DecklistsI don't feel like the planeswalkers do anything for this deck. They feel out of place and that there are better cards for those three spots that help facilitate your strategy better.
I don't quite understand what you mean by this, Garruk Wildspeaker makes creatures, ramps (nicely with Temple of the False God) and overruns, Garruk, Primal Hunter draws TONS of cards, and his ultimate can win, and Karn, the Liberated is a BOMB..
or so my way of thinking tells me..
but yes, I do agree that Sylvan Library should be in every green deck
Jan 27, 2012I am already loving this deck. actually been thinking about building something like this for 1v1, with every single "creature with anthem" effects that I could pound into a list :D. Personally, I plan on running a little hint of token production, like Raise the Alarm, and that new one from DKA. Maybe even Nest Invader, my favorite card in standard of all time. (but probably not)Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
I could recommend Fangren Firstborn, but I'm not sure how many more creatures like this you'd want to run (plus triple green). Maybe even Signal Pest.
Chameleon Colossus seems like a legit threat, especially if you dump your hand and have mana to throw around, along with Wolfbriar Elemental.
Dense Foliage seems great as well, but a little bit risky.
And lastly, Saffi Eriksdotter for more protection.
btw, I would totally run Contested War zone, but once again, in more of a token-ish build
Jan 27, 2012Very respectable replies.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
I've made it a point to tell everyone else other playgroups that I run 101 (and they all seemed cool with it), but if there's any potential discomfort in the back of their minds, it's probably better that I make the cut before I participate in their games.
Jan 27, 2012please add:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger [M]
Jan 27, 2012yes, there is too much ramp.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
Decklist sorted by purpose:
Jan 27, 2012So in my main playgroup, we all play 101 card decks, general included, as a result of an initial misunderstanding of the rules when we first started playing edh (one of my friends even runs 103 cards lol) we decided that we didn't really care, and it kind of stuck, i guess.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Does anybody else's deck exceed the 100 card limit?
Do any of you guys feel that consistency might suffer from being over 1-2 cards?
Lastly, would anyone have a problem if one guy showed up to to play in a match with a deck that exceeds the limit?
Jan 26, 2012yah, Myojin of Life's Web is a preference call. personally, I play against control decks with tons of wraths everywhere, so the more ways I can flash creatures in at the end of their turns, the better :). also note that Myojin and Greater Good is a pretty crazy combo, not to mention his synergy with Garruk's packleader and Regal Force.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
I felt the same about Overwhleming Stampede at first, but it's really pulled it's weight.. it hasn't been overkill in the sense that it enables the possibility of killing opponents when you only have 2-3 creatures out.
I would run something like Gelatinous Genesisinstead of Ursapine, i mean, your general is a mana doubler :D.
The problemis is that your list is pretty tight already, so it's hard to make cuts. Maybe some of the "single ramp" spells, or the mana dorks. Harrow is pretty weak in a mono colored deck. even a card like Rampant Growth is strictly better imo.
Jan 25, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)Don't necessarily need an extra one! Just swap the sleeves on your general and a basic land you have in play or something.
Point taken! perhaps you should post "Be able to improvise" in the 'What to do in edh thread
Jan 25, 2012Nice! I play Vorinclex also, and it's actually very similar to your list. My most consistent gameplan seems to always be Hall of the Bandit lord and Eye of Ugin (set up by Primetime, of course) and I do feel both cards would be excellent here.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
With that said, please go buy Greater Good, it is an absolute necessity in this deck!
you may also consider Triumph of the Horde, which is nice for killing everyone...
no Skyshroud Claim? or Myojin of Life's Web? I suppose it's a matter of preference
As far as what Nurse Jason said about Rampaging Baloths, I have to agree to disagree, and would hope that you would agree. Baloths is really good for setting up Mosswort Bridge, or the kill, especially if you ran any type of overrun effect (Overwhelming Stampede and the likes). Fetchlands definitely make him better,too..
awesome list, though

Jan 19, 2012these are great suggestions, athough I've tried Kamahl... but just a little too mana intensive for my liking. Glare of Subdual also got cut because I was trying to lower the number of enchantments, and it simply does not deal with problematic creatures like Consecrated Sphinx. You can never have enough wraths, though, so perhaps I will replace one of the chopping block cards for Austere Command(Growth Spasm)Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
If you click on your linked Regrowth, you can see that prices are several dollars tops for white bordered versions
I feel pretty dumb about not knowing this. will order one immediately
Jan 18, 2012Posted in: Commander (EDH)Anyone else a fan of Grim Discovery, at least for monoblack? When do you ever get the chance to return a land to your hand? And it could be a two-for-one? Love it.
My friend runs Grim Discovery in his Thraximunder deck. I think it's really good, especially paired with Mulldrifter, Ingot Chewer and the likes
Jan 18, 2012please add:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Rhys the Redeemed [M]
thanks in advance!
Jan 18, 2012IMPORTANT NOTE: this deck has been officially scrapped and converted into Ghave tokensPosted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
Jan 18, 2012in my Rhys deck:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Promise of Bunrei
It serves as wrath protection, or it can set up the win. also interacts amazingly with Sun Titan, of course
Leonin Sun Standard has also been a very solid finisher, and Purify the Graveever since it got printed, has been in every single deck i run with white
Feb 18, 2011Bonehoard is definitely worth running to combat mass removal. I run it maideck, myself, because it's usually relevant even against aggro. here's my build:Posted in: Standard Archives
- 4 Razorverge Thicket
- 4 Sunpetal Grove
- 4 Stirring Wildwood
- 6 Plains
- 6 Forest
- 4 Birds of Paradise
- 2 Llanowar Elves
- 4 Squadron Hawk
- 4 Fauna Shaman
- 3 Stoneforge Mystic
- 3 Mirran Crusader
- 4 Vengevine
- 2 Thrun, the Last Troll
- 1 Acidic Slime
- 2 Green Sun's Zenith
- 1 Basilisk Collar
- 1 Sword of Feast and Famine
- 1 Bonehoard
- 2 Garruk, Wildspeaker
- 2 Gideon Jura
I really like this color combination in standard right now, it seems like it has a decent matchup against anything.
- 4 Razorverge Thicket
Jan 27, 2011@LuminisPosted in: Standard Archives
I love the idea of viridian emissary and arc trail.. but i do have to suggest Lotus Cobra. it seems like the ramp would be more consistent (and more explosive) and looking at your mana base, you could fit 6 fetches at least, and of course, it beats exactly the same. everything else i do like, however, and i also plan to run some kind of G/R aggro deck myself. (I'm thinking more along the lines of Vengevines and Knight of Oxid Ridge :D)
Jan 27, 2011Genra posted a message on Improvments? For My Standard - BR Beatdown Deck - PleaseDark Tutelage seems like it will be ouch-town. maybe try Sign in Blood instead. Mimic Vat probably deserves a slot also, seeing how it's awesome with Persecutor, and could be pretty hilarious with Mark of Mutiny+Scry guy. I would also consider adding more two-drops to balance out the curve a bit. Kalastria Highborn probably takes the cake, but Slavering Nulls would be pretty cool also.Posted in: Standard Archives
Oh, and Sarkhan the Mad for sure (at least a 1 of)
edit: added card tags in case you don't know any of the suggested cards
Jan 27, 2011Posted in: Standard Archives
unfortunately, this is well said. the deck is inconsistent and scoops to alot. have you considered a blue based deck for liquidmetal? seems like a reasonable idea if you want card draw, not to mention counterspells to further strengthen your denial strategy. but then, one would start asking themselves if liquid metal coating is necessary at all
Jan 27, 2011Posted in: Standard ArchivesQuote from tpghHere's my Deck Version of GW Aggro. i really would like your input on this. i think abusing beastmaster and true conviction will lead to a whole lot of shenanigans for sure.
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Main Deck:
3 Avenger of Zendikar
2 Wurmcoil Engine
4 Birds of Paradise
2 Elspeth Tirel
4 Joraga Treespeaker
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Hero of the Bladehold (right now it's Baneslayer)
3 Beastmaster Ascension
2 Conqueror's Pledge
2 True Conviction
3 Razorverge Thicket
3 Stirring Wildwood
3 Sunpetal Grove
4 Tectonic Edge
3 Journey to Nowhere
4 Kor Firewalker
3 Leyline of Sanctity
2 Luminarch Ascension
this is a pretty interesting build, it's like a ramp deck, but with mana dorks that can possibly come back to overrun the opponents face. honestly tho, i think it might be smart to go with either/or. if you want to run a bunch fatties, i would recommend taking some of the mana dorks out and putting in more cards that could be more bombish (Primeival Titan, Genesis Wave, Emeria Angel) and running Eldrazi Monument over True Conviction (for the mass token production). and if you want to go aggro, you could lose Cultivate, cut down to 8 one-mana dorks, and run Lotus Cobra, which is a decent beater. Explore isn't that good with only 24 lands, especially if you dont have a Cultivate (or it gets countered).
All in all tho, this deck looks like it would be a house in multiplayer
Jan 27, 2011well, being a hardcore mono green fan, i'm pretty scared how the release of MBS will affect my green token build. new additions to board wipes seem very opressing, and the possibility of infect being viable is a very scary thing for a deck that has no removal.Posted in: Standard Archives
for me, I feel like a G/W may be a great changing point for me, and I think I will end up building something like this:
- 4 Forest
- 2 Plains
- 4 Misty Rainforest
- 2 Arid Mesa
- 4 Sunpetal Grove
- 4 Razorverge Thicket
- 3 Stirring Wildwood
- 1 Contested Warzone
- 4 Birds of Paradise
- 2 Llanowar Elves
- 2 Fauna Shaman
- 2 Gore Vassal
- 4 Squadron Hawk
- 3 Lotus Cobra
- 4 Vengevine
- 3 Hero of Bladehold
- 1 Thrun, the Last Troll
- 1 Wolfbriar Elemental
- 1 Wurmcoil Engine
- 2 Green Sun's Zenith
- 3 Journey to Nowhere
- 2 Garruk Wildspeaker
- 2 Eldrazi Monument
Thrun is auto include, GSZ is too awesome. not sure if should run stoneforge package or not. i will absolutely try Contested Warzone, athough i will be reluctant to drop it unless i have board control or lethal. has anyone considered Gore Vassal? It might just end up being good utility.
- 4 Forest
Jan 24, 2011Posted in: Standard ArchivesQuote from ZolerThis deck looked like fun so I gave it a shot, my decklist at the moment:
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Garruks Compansion
4 Nest Invader
4 Mul Daya Channelers
4 Leatherback Baloth
4 Kozilek's Predator
3 Wolfbriar Elemental
3 Overwhelming Stampede
3 Garruk Wildspeaker
I have 3 spots not sure what to add. More Garruks? Overwhelming Stampede? Beastmasters Ascension? Some more creatures, which ones? Lotus cobra, vengvine maybe? It seems most here play 3 or less Garruks, but with just 3 it feels like I'm not drawing him as much as I want to. Is 4 too much?
I'm very new to green overall and not sure what to go for ^^
Also, what would you say is best, 4 Arbor Elves or 4 Birds of Paradise?
i vote arbor elves over bop for the 1 power, and i vote vengevine if you have open slots, but you may want to throw in more lands first. some decks will do nothing but kill every dork you play (boros, red), so it's important that you still curve out. as far as garruk, i used to always run 3 but have recently cut to 2 because of how often he just gets pinged every turn from a cunning sparkmage or a squadron hawk, or hexmaged. not to say that he still isn't amazing, but sometimes u cant overrun when u want to. garruk is still really good against control, so i keep my third in the sideboard. unfortunately i cant really justify mul daya channelers other than the fact that it's a fun card, but something like lotus cobra might be a better fit especially for the 3 wolfbriars. also, have you considered eldrazi monument?
Jan 24, 2011I think Lead the Stampede is decent enough to see some kind of play. perhaps in weenie-ish decks like elves or quest, but that is to say if those decks will still be competitive after MBS comes out. It's sure to be amazing in limited, and I'll throw one into my monogreen edh for sure.Posted in: Standard Archives
Jan 6, 2011im looking forward to splashing white in my monoG deck for this or other battlecry cards.Posted in: New Card Discussion
hero almost replaces garruk... but garruk is too good not to run :D. one suggestion tho, nest invader should have a home in this deck.
Dec 24, 2010Posted in: SpeculationQuote from killor79Umm idk maybe with a swamp and two forest? Idk this is just such a conundrum on how we'll be able to pay for her.
i was thinking consistency. for an aggressive creature like this, it seems like being able to drop it on third turn might be an issue with fetchs (especially CIPT) yah, good luck. bop will be allstar. i have to admit i already love this card, so for enemy duels, my hopes are up
Dec 23, 2010How likely is it we see some enemy colored duel lands printed? glissa is BGG for christ sakes. g/b and r/w for sure... but the other 3? would it make sense in the story?Posted in: Speculation
edit: sry, just now realized there is another thread devoted to this topic
Aug 29, 2010hey everyone. i've been playing a mostly green version of g/r aggro for the past three weeks of FNM, and figured I'd post it because of how successful it's been:Posted in: Standard Archives
took first place week 2 and week3.
Ultimately, I'd like to add a 4th Overrun somehow... but I just can't seem to get myself to drop a Garruk or anything else.
With that being said, I've found that it has a pretty solid matchup (equal if not better) against opposing Vengevine/Fauna decks most commonly Naya or Bant, all credits to Overrun which is usually the deciding factor in a stalemate ;D. I put cunning sparkmage in the sideboard specifically against other mana morons, but more often than not, I find myself hesitant to even side them in.
seems to also do good against RDW also, given the superior card advantage my deck has and the ever so beefy Leatherback Baloth. Definitely not a cakewalk, though. Obstinate Baloth comes in from the side.
W/U can be tricky, but I can usually manage to explode out the win even after a resolved BSA or Gideon. Traitorous Instinct possibly comes in against BSA.
R/U Pyromancer and Runeflare are fun matchups that pretty much come down to the consistency of the aggressor (me).
the one matchup I haven't tested against is valaakut/ramp, which seems pretty scary (especially pyroclasm out of the sideboard)
has anybody else tested against ramp decks? results?
Jun 15, 2010@Rhaderis: Channelers works great for me, but i think it's pretty much a preference call. personally, with my deck, I like to consistently see a turn 2 threat. I run 6 fetches and elvish visionary to somewhat manipulate him. I also enjoy seeing the top card of my library (tho i'm sure the opponent also does) and channelers' unpredictable nature definitely adds a fun factor to the deck, even when he completely whiffs :). other than that I have found him quite effective vs UW/UWr and red deck. by far one of my favorite green cards right now.Posted in: Standard Archives
as far as the release of m11, who in this thread ISN'T excited for the green cards! I especially love Garruk's packleader and Sylvan Ranger
still trying to figure out the sideboard. has anyone ever tested Turntimber Basilisk in the side? seems like it could be good against bant conscription, especially with the monument.
Jun 10, 2010Posted in: New Card DiscussionQuote from CyanThis card looks exciting because it is strictly better than Megrim.
Unfortunately, that doesn't actually mean anything. Enchantments/Artifacts that don't directly affect the game state(board position, hand size, etc) are generally not playable, and this card will not be an exception. By itself, it will never do anything..and that will always be the problem.
It's better, but I'm not so sure if it's strictly better, considering that megrim burns (PWs), and caress is loss of life.
Jun 7, 2010thx giuseppe. I was afraid I was in the wrong thread. I will search out Ab slayer. athough, depending on next FNM, I may feel compelled to try the more heavier control build in the future. (Now I have to figure out if I can remove my list lol)Posted in: Standard Archives
