After a long but friendly argument, he now believes that losing life is different from damage. thanks again. Smile

What prompts a modern player to eventually trade their modern staples for legacy staples?

The reverse applied to me. Sold all of my revised duals, and then migrated to Modern -- because in Modern I have more people to play with.

Thanks, I needed that. I don't know what rules book he read, but for some reason my opponent thinks damage is the same as "loses life".

Hi, during a practice game in a stalled board state... I pay 6 mana to sac a Graveborn Muse and a 5/6 Tarmogoyf to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord ability, finish off my opponent from 7 life. We have a minor argument, because he has a worship in play. I think Jarad ability is not damage, so it will kill someone hiding be hind a worship. Is this correct?

I always see the same advice in every mtg finance: no card that is not on the reserved list is not off limits to being reprinted. If you want to invest in mtg cards, you have to face the realization that cards like Snapcaster, Liliana of the Veil, fetchlands, shocklands, Noble Hierarch, etc, will all be reprinted sooner or later. Look at Tarmogoyf, he's been reprinted so many times. He was at like $150 when I first started modern.

Wizards don't care about the secondary market. They want people to play their game because that just makes them more money.

Pretty much this in the long term, but many people often make a lot of money when a card is not reprinted in a particular set. I'm not sure how many people have insider information (just met a guy who claims to have that, so that's cool) or just have a hunch, but when stuff like Karn Liberated is not reprinted, it can shoot to the moon. It is ridiculous that it should ever have been an $85 card, but that's supply and demand (so it actually technically it isn't ridiculous).

Many other cards follow the same spectrum and then there's cards like Damnation and Blood Moon that have their prices bottomed out. Some cards make comebacks like Horizon Canopy. I am semi kicking myself for not buying the ICM art ones just to have more for decks when they hit $30 (I was waiting for $20). I have Canopies already, but wouldn't have minded another set with different art for another deck. But that's what happens and I currently refuse to pay $40 or more a pop for them now, especially having Future Sight ones (and foil Future Sight ones).

I remember Karn Liberated to be only 10$, and people would laugh at someone using him when he was Standard legal. Did not expect him to blow up to almost 100$ each. Also commited a mistake with Horizon Canopies, have 3 of them future sight.. sold the first one for 50, next one for 60, and then thinking it would drop because of the reprint sold the last one for only 30, too late when I realized the reprint is limited in amount and canopies blew up in price again. XD

Pillage would give us another mainboard artifact removal.

Terravore is easily 7/7 or 8/8, assuming the opponent also use fetchlands and the graveyard is not touched.

8 whack zoo builds still can do well in some FNM's where you know what most of the people are playing... but if you're asking to be competitive in large tournaments, zoo sadly does not make the cut anymore.

Probably a biased opinion because I'm a BGx player. I look for sources of card draw right away. XD
Have ordered a reaper from SCG for testing. It sees itself when it dies, so you draw a card if the reaper get's killed in combat.

I see the troll growing to at least 6/6 if things go right. Worth testing as a one or two of in lists with black splash. People won't really side grave hate against us, so a top decked troll has a lot of food in the yard.

Everyone mentions the players who will "lose their minds" when their collection value takes a dip due to reprints but I just don't see these people anywhere. I would argue that players almost unanimously want cheaper card prices. If a couple of sweaty, grease-fingered neck beards get bent out of shape, so be it.

When WoTC printed the khans fetch lands, I remember some holders of Onslaught fetches panic selling in a facebook group, they knew it's over. The days of 100$ polluted delta and 100$ flooded strands are gone, it's the end of an era. With the printing, a heavy burden that has been around for years finally lifted.. a lot more people were able to afford a better manabase. Smile

Now, they just need to reprint the enemy colored fetches in a Standard set again.

Hi, if I have a Midnight Reaper, a skyscanner, and a tarmogoyf in play.. then an opponent casts Wrath of God. Do I still draw cards from Midnight Reaper? And how many cards do I draw?

Small zoo variants with Pelt Collector is being discussed lately in Zoo topic. I run a 3 playsets of 1-drops build with Experiment One, Narnam Renegade and Dryad Militant with 8 fetches. The reason I don't want to play Pelt Collector is i feel like the regeneration clause of Experiment One is more relevant than the trample clause of Pelt Collector just because we have access to 4xRancor and 4xAvatar of the Resolute. I might be wrong though, I cannot say "this build is definitely better than the other".

For the fun part: I have proxied and played almost any other deck and somehow I cannot enjoy any of them as much as I do stompy. Small zoo and gobots are close in terms of fun but their inconsistency and so low resiliency takes the fun part from them after some games. However, I'm a big fan of +1/+1 counters, I've tried to build mono green Hardened Scales decks but they were also not resilient enough, Hardened Scales that is not on a stick is not good for a stompyish style deck. So, I've been trying to build something with Winding Constrictor. The creature base is so similar to stompy, I've tried Bloodhall Ooze for a while and even though it's great when it works, it's so much inconsistent. So, lately I've been having so much fun with this build

The Charnel Troll looks interesting. At 3 cmc, it can be assumed that at least one or two creatures already died when the troll is cast.. and it would probably have dealt some damage or killed by the opponent before you run out of things to exile from the yard. Well, and if the troll is found to be bad in testings... another card to consider might be Midnight Reaper.

I dont think 'print them into the ground' is an answer that is at all realistic, or even healthy, for the game.

That said, $400 for a playset of a freaking mana dork, is unacceptable to me. :p

Oh, you mean Hierarch? I remember the time that card was 30$... that time people were complaining that 30$ is too expensive for a mere mana dork. XD
Hopefully, there would be a modern masters set next year with Hierarch included in it.

I'm all for a cheaper standard. I think the issue is that we have a very high number of hands in the pot, pressure from Hasbro to maintain or increase sales/market share, and a 25 year old game. I'm not directing this at you, but alot of people on here don't get that wizards can't print everything into the dirt - nor do I want them to.

Everything getting reprinted into the dirt might mean the end MTG. The prices of some cards promotes speculation and interest in the secondary market.. and that helps keep the game alive.
