What does everyone think of the red version playing shrapnel blast? It is prevalent on MTGO (2nd in a PTQ). It gives the deck an extra push after a pyroclasm and also provides the ability to kill out of nowhere. I personally prefer it over the blue version as I don't like master or ensoul very much in this metagame.

    Hi Everyone,

I recently quit the game of magic (I played on the PT once and felt like I got everything out of the game.) However I miss watching my cards go up and down. When I played I didn't know much about speculating. However, now that I don't play anymore I kinda want to treat my MTGO account as a pseudo stock portfolio. This is why I am here, I have a pretty large bankroll to get up and ready, but I have no knowledge of the current formats and the prices of cards (I quit 4 months ago.) What cards should I start buying? What are some good tips? Should I invest in Vintage? Legacy? Modern? I think Standard should wait due to upcoming rotation.

    Thanks for the help everyone!

I am interested in starting to play Classic and Legacy on MTGO. I want to buy FoW, all the duals, Jace's, and many other staples. However, Vintage masters is coming out! Should I wait until Vintage Masters? Or will it's release increase the popularity of these formats therefor increasing demand greater than its increase in supply?

I need your help! Should I get into Legacy/Classic now or wait until post-Vintage Masters?

    Thanks

From what I have read here on from the little research I've done I think Zur is the right choice for me. Is it really too powerful that I won't be having any fun playing against my opponents? I have all of the cards for Zur and it fits my playstyle nicely, but if I won't be having fun than I guess it's not the right choice for my playgroup's style.

sorry for lack of info guys! I was the guy who played Jund/Faeries/CawBlade in standard. I like to draw cards, play jace, have answers, but still attack with creatures. Now I know I don't want to be "that guy" who nobody wants to play against so with that in mind I am trying to architect a build around this. I am not sure what generals my friends play with as I never really stayed to watch their games, I left once EDH started because I didn't have a deck.

    Hey Guys,

So I am new to the commander seen but my playgroup is really into it and they have some sweet decks. I want to be competitive with their decks. Where should I start? I know for sure I want to play a blue deck and and want it to be sweet, powerful, competitive, but also have a lot of awesome saucy cards in it.

Can you guys help me out and point me in the right direction of a build?

Your cards fall into three categories.

Jace, AOT is a standard staple at, or near, the peak of his price cycle. SELL.

Wasteland is a legacy staple which is currently at an artificially depressed price thanks to TES drafts. Generally, I would expect this to trend back up towards its long term price over the next year, however there is a complicating factor in that if it is re-printed in next year's vintage masters (expected 2-3rd quarter) it could suffer another price drop. The optimal strategy is probably a medium term hold, hoping that it recovers some of its price before ~March next year when vintage masters is likely to be announced. Unless you are avidly watching the market, you would ideally plan on unloading before the panic selloff that would be associated with a reprint announcement. Alternatively, you could just sell now because it hasn't actually tanked as hard as you might think.

The rest are modern staples. Generally, the advice would be to hold these until modern PTQ season.... but all of the relevant events are currently on hold due to technical issues with no ETA on their re-arrival, so I have no idea if there even will be a modern season on MTGO. I'm not sure what others think on this, but I think I would be inclined to sell these because there's no firm expectation of a price increase in the foreseeable future, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for your advice. I'm stuck on weither or not to sell the modern cards (especially fetches)

MTG Sealed boxes can be a very good investment.

But you have to buy low. Do not buy just to have a box, buy when a good opportunity comes to you.

I started buying Sealed Boxes only 2 months ago and already the possible return is very high. Within the last 2 months I bought Sealed boxes of :

1x Revised for 1300. At that time they were 1350 on eBay. Nowadays, you can't really find one under 1500. That is a 10% increase in value in 2 months.

2x Worldwake online from a store located in Australia. With the shipping and exchange rate I paid 685 for the 2 boxes, only 342 each. I could easily sell these boxes for 450 now. Over 100 profit per box if I wanted. That is 30% profit in 2 months.

Then I paid 2800$ for this lot of sealed boxes:
    1x Urza's Saga
    2x Future Sight
    1x Innistrad
    2x Guildpact
    1x Time Spiral
    1x Coldsnap
    2x Dissension
I could easily resell this for 3100 and over .. again 10% increase in 2 months only.

I think MTG Sealed boxes can be a very good investment when you buy at the right price. You can get a 10-15% return per year which is more than most stocks.

I always buy when I have the money and the price is acceptable. Do not buy crap boxes like Homelands or Fallen Empire, etc. Priority on sets that have value cards.

This is very informative thank you. I will likely invest in Innistrad and Return to Ravnica at first. And from now on I'll try to buy boxes of sets when they first come out (I live in Canada so I usually get them for 100 a piece at best)

So i have been looking at booster boxes from Zendikar Block and Alara Block. And they range from 200-300 dollars each (not including WWK which is outrageously high.)

I was thinking about buying a few boxes of sets that I think will do well (Return to Ravnica) and holding them for a few years and reselling them for profit. Not only would I do this to make a few extra bucks but I think it would be fun to watch the prices go up over time.

Now I realize that it would be easier to just invest in "gold" or the "stock market" but for mtg stuff I think this would be easy money. Not one box has dipped below MSRP.

What do you guys think? Is this a good idea? Or am I crazy?
