I've never bought product from SCG. It's just far more expensive there than anywhere else.

I'm honestly surprised they sell anything that isn't extremely scarce foils or promos.

There's no debating with 12 year olds. Everything is so black and white. Go buy some fake sunglasses and be happy. I'll continue to try to support Wizards by playing at LGS, bringing in new players and buying product while you buy .50 tarmogoyfs and lol until you're bored and find something else to do or Wizards stops making new sets because there's no $$$ in it.

Wow, you are projecting really hard. I'm not a bad guy for explaining what people do in the real world.

If you doubt me, please head over to a nearby clothing store or go on eBay. It's out there.

Yes, knock offs are cheesy. And it doesn't make you smart, it makes you an idiot for spending money on junk with the right emblem.

    Quote from ravynok
The fact that designer knockoffs are such a big business says a lot about the people that wear them. To need other people's approval that much that you knowingly wear something fake because it looks real is just sad.

Uh, no. To them, buying a Gucci Handbag for 500$+ makes you an "idiot for spending money on junk with the right emblem." They want the gucci experience for cheaper. If you're saying that the gucci experience is stupid, well.... they'd probably say that spending 200$ for cardboard is stupid too.
    Opinions. Opinions. Opinions.

Regardless of how you see these people. They are willing to buy knockoffs for cheaper. People like this exist in the real world in great number, and spend a lot of real money. You don't need to be an economist to see this.

    Quote from Quacker

Also, it's not a very good analogy. Magic cards are junk, we know this. It's what's behind the card that creates value. If you can't see that, then Wizards goes out and we can enjoy Legacy for everyone and no one because cards will be there but no events and no player base.

Gucci probably cares that there are people out there duplicating their exact look for pennies on the dollar. Things like this happen though.

It's not like magic endorses the gold standard or something. Magic got big and the real world is doing what the real world does when stuff that is not useful becomes more expensive than stuff that is. The end product is just paper with pictures and words on it, regardless of the work that went into it.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I'm sorry, but MTG is a luxury. You're not entitled to a luxury. Just like I'm not entitled to a sports car, even though I would like one, but I don't complain to Ferrari about how expensive and out of reach their cars are.

Do you say the same thing to people who wear and knowingly purchase designer knockoffs? People do this all the time.

Buying a cheaper version of an expensive thing is smart if you just want the look or experience for cheaper.

If it's concentrated in 3% of cards, then 200,000 represents the number of the top 3% of most useful cards printed in a day and a half, on average.

But these counterfeit cards are in sets that might have never even seen whatever print numbers you're postulating, or surviving copies are slowly dropping, or a million other things that apply to some of the modern and older staples targeted.

I applaud your efforts in approximation, but the damage is a LOT harder to predict, there are so many variables.

200,000 cards is like... the amount that WOTC prints in one hour, on average, probably.

It's not going to be a "market crash." Especially since they don't seem to be perfect yet (which is probably why they're selling them in bulk, as rejects). It's more like just an indicator of persistence than an imminent threat.

Even if those figures were somehow accurate, the factory isn't wasting it's time with filler cards.

They are bloating the ~3% of cards that are actually worth something.

Budgeting doesn't mean I play "budget" decks. It just means I can plan my finances. I play goblins, merfolk and Show and tell. For the record burn is a solid deck in legacy.

Budgeting still means you're paying full price for cards that have no business being that much.

    4. Able to partake in a luxury hobby is not a right. If you can't afford it, don't play it. There are alot of things I can't afford, but I don't go complaining because I'm not entitled to it.

When the Chinese start counterfeiting jetskis for 20$ I'll probably get excited for that, too. The funny thing about luxury hobbies is that when they become accessible for the first time (regardless of cause) people will justifiably flock to it.

    No.

The arguments in favor of Ashiok could be construed as such though, since him being able to flip and play the right threat at the right time is very much the ideal scenario rather than the default.

Baneslayer Angel is a threat looking for an answer. Ashiok is a card desperately looking to become a threat, one which even under ideal circumstances leaves the opponent with perfect information and choices in how to deal with him.

No. What I'm referring to is your attitude that Ashiok is the easiest thing in the world to deal with at all times at the convenience of its opponent. It reminds me a lot of the doom blade argument.

Ashiok might give your opponents a choice, but not answers (unless gruul charm shenanigans).

I don't think I'm really capable of proving to you that Ashiok is a threat, considering I have not played extensively with it (neither have you, so I don't really see where you get all of these ideal and usual situations). I just dislike the mentioned line of thinking.

Something that reliably takes care of Sylvan Caryatid, Xathrid, and Voice. Also, it gets around Dark Prophecy. Amazing.

This is one of the most important spoilers to come out for Theros.

If you do hit a threat that you both want and have enough loyalty to put into play the next turn your opponent gets the choose between:

    • Ignoring it, either because the board state is such that he's better off attacking you or because he's got answers to the creature you intend to put into play.
    • Killing Ashiok before you can use him.
    • Damaging Ashiok enough that you can't profitably use his ability.

So, this is one of those "Baneslayer Angel is bad because your opponent will always have doom blades in their hand" arguments right?

Especially considering the different wording for both abilities.

Why should they write the first one with "another creature" and the second one without "another" if it isn't possible to bring himself back?

For me the second part of 112.6k is relevant here, so it IS possible to sacrifice itself and get it back from the graveyard.

It doesn't say "another" because it doesn't need to. He won't be on the battlefield to sacrifice himself because he can only use it in the graveyard.

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord's recursive ability works a lot like this dude.

There's no contradiction . . . a card that can do something good but will never get to do it because it sits in play doing nothing for 4 turns is still a bad card. Control will trade a card to get rid of it, as they will do for any other card an opponent is playing, but it weakens your deck because its application is so narrow and because it will never advance your game plan, except for in situations where you already have the game locked up.

    1. Getting rid of a planeswalker is a little harder than getting rid of a creature for most, if not all control decks. Is this like a slightly more specialized doom blade exists for all baneslayers?

    2. If it isn't worth getting rid of, they won't get rid of it. Yet you say it is worth getting rid of?
