If an activated ability or triggered ability has an effect that depends on your devotion to a color, you count the number of mana symbols of that color among the mana costs of permanents you control as the ability resolves. The permanent with that ability will be counted if it’s still on the battlefield at that time.

So it will count him as long as he is alive when his trigger resolves.

I suggest using a top loader and cutting the side edges off for a divider. You can put a slip in it representing anything you want, it will be tall to stand out over the cards.

Do the timeshift cards (Finkel, Mystic Snake) have a chance of being here? I would love new border version of them. But then, I'm not really sure if timeshift cards really count as being in Time Sprial block or not.

They certainly count as being modern legal cards, so I hope so. I'd really like to get the only non-modern frame Lords out of my Merfolk deck.

I noticed around my community not alot of buzz for DGM. I figured it maybe was just that there wasn't anything super hot around this time, and standard is well established enough people aren't looking into the new stuff hard yet. I didn't imagine it would change the pre-release weekend outlook much.

However, last night's midnight at my store had a 40% attendance drop from our last 5 midnight events (excluding m13). We've consistently hit 90+ and we barely pulled into the 50s last night. I spoke to a friend at a shop who usually gets even more then us, and he saw a similair drop off. I'm curious if its the area for us (NY/NJ) or just an oddity for us, or if its widespread.

So let me ask, how were your prereleases compared to GTC and RTR?

Yeah, but the way the guild packs are set up, the four players who pick orzhov are inadvertently also taking Azorius, Rakdos, Golgari, and Selesnya, leaving a higher chance that an Azorius, Rakdos, Golgari, and Selesnya won't get theirs, because there would be only three left. It would also guarantee that those four guilds won't get Orzhov, because the four Orzhov players already took those packs, and this is making an assumption that there is only one box per store, which isn't entire true.

The Judge can't just not see the other side of the pack, because for example, an Azorius with Orzhov secret ally, is the same pack as Orzhov with Azorius secret ally. I read that the box comes with 20 packs, one with each guild combination, so it would seem that there is no distinction between front and back of the pack, and chosen vs secret ally.

So if RTR is shown in the front, and GTC in the back, I may be wrong on this, the judge would only show only the RTR guids, because the judge doesn't peek, although the same pack is used for the Guild A Secret Ally B, and Guild B, secret ally A. Do you understand now?

To make things simpler, if you pick boros, then somebody else's secret ally will less likely to be boros.

Another thing is, nobody can control what other store owners and judges do. Some of them have bias to some players, and as a result, since we know that both guilds are not "secret", it could be possible that a judge or store owner gives his favorite guild not so secret ally to his buddies over his haters.

As I understand it, the way the kits come to the store, they come as in set
    10. All that is guaranteed is 1 of each RTR and GTC guild. What I'm doing at my store is taking them out and putting one of each into 10 boxes for the 10 guilds. Repeat ad nausem until all the kits are sorted. The other side is irrelevant. I'm going to give my players random seating, then walk around with the boxes and hand out the boxes in order to the players showing their pin/ticket for that guild. So I walk the aisles with my Orzhov box, and just hand them as I go. If i get 20 kits, then only 20 people can CHOOSE Orzhov. Anyone else who wants to try and get it will have to pick a RTR BW guild and hope for the best.

If theres no faith in the TO/Judges to do the right thing and not cheat, why go there? That is a much bigger problem then this single pre-release. Besides, if they are doing that, then are you assuming they are doing fixed pairings to give their players better odds to? Or letting them swap cards from outside their pool? Not saying that it doesn't happen, just saying that if you think they are scummy enough to cheat the system in one regard, why not in more.

Gaze of Granite is CMC X or less, like Pernicious Deed.
Punishment is only CMC X (like Ratchet Bomb),

Ok, much better that way, totally worth the extra B.

So they took crime/punishment and changed the fomatting to include planeswalkers and made it into two seperate cards with Obzedat's aid and Gaze of Granite(+B to cost).

When no distributor knows how many they are getting and are not even taking preorders yet. Fishy

Agreed. None of my store's distributors know squat about what we are getting yet. Hell, we won't even have solid DGM release numbers for at least another week. The distributor's usually only get their numbers for box releases about a month out. So beginning of May seems reasonable.

Appears my local store is expecting a small supply of MM and will only be drafting the boxes they get unless there are multiple cases. Fail Frown

They claim their supplier is "strongly suggesting" they draft the boxes instead of sell them outright. Anyone else heard any news from your store owners?

Seems really smart and a good way to take care of the players who want to PLAY. It's how I want to do things at my store, at least for the first few dozen boxes. (ideally, 30 for events, then beyond that can be sold) Because I'm pretty sure if you just sell first come first serve, then someone is gonna walk in, max out their credit card, and go home with as many boxes as they can buy. Because the resale market for these will be cuthroat if it's as "limited" as wizard says. Even if you play the "limit x per customer" that just means people will have to get family/neighbors/nonMTGfriends to come to the store to buy stuff them

It's not a conflict of interest thing, it's a we are required to do this thing

From the Judging at Regular guide (the document is here)
    There are also certain behaviours that will not be tolerated in any event. Any player engaging in the following must be disqualified from your event;
− Influencing Match outcomes (by incentives, coercion or random methods)

It's a pretty cut and dry issue. If you do this, DQ. I hate giving these kinds of DQ's, and I've been lucky enough to stop conversations that head in this direction before they are a serious problem, but it is what it is.

Honestly, I feel it should come down to how it was handled. I would see it as a conflict of interest if the judge was laughing at the player or excited that he gets the free win. If the judge was clearly unhappy about the situation, and showed it to the player, possibly spoke to the TO about either giving him a refund or a free/discounted entry in the future. All things that aren't required, but are good customer service for players who get themselves into hot water on accident.

They are simply undercutting MSRP to get the product to move, since they want to rotate through everything as fast as possible. Be sure to buy from them if you'd like to assist your local shop in closing it's doors for good.

Boneyard wurm is the 3rd gateway promo for Innistrad. We got our gateways in the store yesterday. Sadly, we got 1/3 as many boneyard wurms as we did curses and neonates. On the plus side, its BEAUTIFUL. If no one manages to beat me to it, I'll take a picture of it when I get to work tonight.
