I've dealt with both Cape Fear Games and MTGO Traders on numerous occasions. The service that I've received has always been outstanding. I've never had any problems in my dealings with the store. Their prices (both on MTGO Traders and at Cape Fear Games) are always competitively priced. Whether you're ordering digital or paper cards, they are always quick to respond.
The equipment selection and numbers will likely change based on the post rotation meta-game. If artifact hate becomes as prevalent as everyone thinks, the equipment count might need to go up, though I'm not completely sure.
The sideboard was thrown together pretty quickly without much thought.
*** PREFACE *** : I know Jace 2.0 is missing from the decklist below. I don't own any as of yet but have been borrowing them instead.
I've been thinking about how to improve Turboland and hopefully cover up some of its weak points. (i.e. losing to Goblin Guide, lack of removal, etc.) I saw some people earlier mention the addition of white.
With white, we get:
Path to Exile - basic removal, and we can Path our own creatures if necessary to trigger Landfall
Wall of Omens - a good card in itself but playing his also allows us to run Overgrown Battlement since the two synergize so well.
Silence - This is the real reason why I wanted to run white because in many cases, casting this card is like casting a Time Warp
(SB) Kor Firewalker - Helps us against RDW and Goblin Guides
Round 1: Jacerator 1-1 Game 1: He milled me out. Game 2: I side in 2 Relics, 2 Duress, Haunting Echoes, and Emrakul. A Haunting Echoes resolved and I removed every relevant spell from his library except for Angel Song. These matches took forever and with 2 minutes left for round 3, we drew.
Round 2: Summoning Trap 2-1 Game 1: Turn 6 Emrakul, enough said. Game 2: Mind Sludged for 6 and smashed with Persecutor Game 3: I Mind Sludged away an Emrakul and he missed with Summoning Trap. Similar to Game 2.
Round 3: Junk 2-1 Game 1: 3 Tendrils removed two KoR and a Baneslayer. Finished with Persecutor Game 2: Great Sable Stag chipped away while I foolishly slow-rolled a Vapors; giving him time to produce fodder. Game 3: Resolved two Consume the Meeks with Persecutor out.
Round 4: Grixis Control 0-2
Played against my roommate. I had play tested my MBC deck against his Grixis deck the night before and judging from the play testing results, I was not surprised with the outcome of the round at all. He won both game handily (and ended up taking 2nd overall).
Round 5: Mono White Weenie (Kor) 2-1 Game 1: Burnt through all three consuming vapors to keep the board clear with Persecutor out. Game 2: Game lasted to turn 10, and I stayed at a cool 4 lands (3 swamps, 1 dread statuary) the entire game. Game 3: Resolved a Malakir Bloodwitch.
- My friend has two Scalding Tarns and I am letting him borrow my own 2 Scalding Tarns for FNM
- I want to make sure that I get my OWN two Scalding Tarns back because I am obsessive compulsive like that
- Is there some way of "marking" or "tagging" these cards without violating any rules? (Obviously this would be done in such a way that my friend would not gain any sort of advantage.)
I'll be taking this to FNM this week. Don't have a whole lot of experience with this deck so it could very easily go bad. Any suggestions/comments are more than welcome, especially in regards to the side-board.
The Relics are in the sideboard for Next Level Bant (Vengevine) and Vampires.
I hope I'm not repeating what people have already been saying, but, in Spaniel's article he basically sights six reasons (cards) why UW(r) is "THE blue-based control deck for this meta."
They are Wall of Omens, Day of Judgement, Martial Coup, Gideon, Elspeth and Vengeant.
All of these cards are white. (I know Vengeant is also technically red, but the only reason UWr Control splashes red is for Vengeant). I find it funny that he essentially calls UWr the best BLUE-based deck and then proceeds to name off six WHITE cards that make it so good.
IMO, the reason why Grixis might not shine was well as other control decks is simply because it lacks White. Now some might say, that Jund doesn't run white yet still performs very well. However, what we are looking at are control decks. Jund is really just an aggro deck.
My friend and I were discussing how a significant majority of the best control cards (as the format currently stands) are actually white and not blue. Spaniel's article seems to confirm this thought. Don't get me wrong, UW control wouldn't be nearly as good without the Blue (i.e., Jace, Seas, Mind Spring, Counters, etc.) but I personally that White just adds so much more in terms of control.
My reason for asking is that I'm currently holding two Vengevines which I've pulled from packs and I'm wondering: should I sell them now (my shop is currently buying them for $21 a piece) or should I wait until Alara black rotates out and possibly get even more for them?
Ah, that make's since. I was thinking that an interesting pairing would be Awakening Zone with Eldrazi Monument. That way, you would always have a creature to sac.
DISCLAIMER: I've only been playing for a month or two so go easy on me if this is completely senseless.
When I first saw Awakening Zone, I immediately thought of the card Bitterblossom. From what I've seen/heard this card was pretty broken, so I was amazed that Wizards would reprint a similar card. With Awakening Zone you don't even lose life; but then again, you are getting a 0/1 NON-flyer. So I figured, because of that slight difference, this card was pretty tame.
Then I saw Broodwarden. This is when I started to think about the possibility of some sort of token-esque deck based on Eldrazi Spawn. In theory you could use cards like Kozilek's Predator and Emrakul's Hatcher, just to name a few. The idea would be to buff up your tokens with Broodwarden and maybe even splash white for Marshal's Anthem(?). Maybe even throw in Raid Bombardment for when your spawn aren't that buffed up.
However, as much as I like the idea of this deck,I can't help but feel that veteran players would simply think it "Cute". I can see it now: Shrivels, Earthquakes for 2, and Day of Judgements wiping the board clean.
Do you guys think this might work, at least at FNM? I'm asking because I'm honestly not sure, though my gut says no. What is it that (the current block lacks) that made B/W Tokens such a powerhouse?
I was thinking Nihil Spellbomb would probably come in handy given all of the new graveyard mechanics.
Silver-Inlaid Dagger might be another cool target. Goes well with Invisible Stalker, Mirran Crusader, and even Trinket Mage to name a few.
Hell, you could even put it on Gideon Jura if you wanted to.
I don't know, just a thought.
[EDIT]: Also Snapcaster Mage
I wouldn't shop anywhere else.
