Drafting sounds really fun. But, since I have been away for so long, I don't know the rarity of the cards. I am assuming there is a balance between choosing cards that are worth something, as well as building a deck that can win so you get the packs.
What is the best way to get used to the various cards? Just go on MTG and go through the various blocks and try to get used to them?
I created an account last week. I have not played or collected magic cards since 1996. I started in the newbie room and tried to make a deck out of the cards I received. I tried to build a red burn deck and did OK. I then found the free cards from MGTOtrader and tried to build a white weenie deck.
After 2 days of getting beat in the casual room, I decided to buy some cards. I built a poor man's ally deck before I saw how many of them were there.
Now, on to the question.
Without shelling money to make a deck, is there any strategy to building a few fun decks to switch it up? I'm already bored of a mono white deck but don't want to spend money for another one...
Try replacing the Lifelinks and Pacifisms with 2 Ranger of Eos and 4 Hada Freeblade. Elspeth, Knight-Errant and Ajani Goldmane are also pretty good cards to play if you can get your hands on them.
Thanks for the advice!
Are there any lands that I should look into, or will normal plains work fine?
Hey all. I just started an online account a few days ago. I haven't played MTG since mid-90s so I definitely am not up to date on the new cards.
With that said, I have constructed an OK single-player white Ally deck, going off what I have run into in the new player room. I also have an OK solo red burn deck.
I do enjoy playing multiplayer more than solo and would like to run a Soldier deck that won't cost me a ton of $ to build.
Some cards that crossed my mind (keep in mind I have just come back and was more of a collector than a player--in other words, I'm a newbie) are:
2x Captain of the Watch
4x Marshall Anthem
4x Vet Armorsmith
4x Vet Swordsmith
4x Blademaster
4 Honor the Pure
4x Marshal's Anthem
4x Join the Ranks
4x Conquerors Pledge
2X Lifelink
4x Pacifism
I know I need some way to get land out quickly (that is what I've noticed thus far in multiplayer...blue or green to get land out so that the planeswalkers/multicolored creatures can get out to do some damage).
In other words, please advise on a way to play a fun multiplayer soldier deck!
Again, thanks.

Thanks a bunch for any tips you guys can offer!
Out of those, which should be used with 2x Captain of the Watch, 4x Blademaster, 4x Ranger of Eos and 4x Hada??
Thanks!
