I think this card will be very good... in a particular meta.

The fact that we're getting more answers is very very good, though.

Just PLEASE give us better answers to dredge and tron!!!

Even 3 months ago this wasnt necessarily the case and Jund used to be a pillar of the format.

One interesting that happened in modern this year was the sudden and rapid decline of Midrange. Sure, Jund has been trying to find legs for a bit now, but we're in the same year where BBE got unbanned, Mardu Pyromancer won a GP vs what looked like, from the top 8, a field of Big Mana, and Assassin's Trophy got printed.

But within the last 3-4 months, Midrange has all but been punted from the format. Mardu seems to be dead on a competitive level, Jund and GB/x decks have been consistently underperforming as well.

And yet I dont see too much talk of this, aside from "Oh yeah just dont play Midrange in modern". The archetype was a reasonable choice 3 months ago but has not kept up with the format, and I wonder if WOTC is going to be fine with this or try to give it a leg up somehow.

I think Moon is still fine against a lot of decks that aren't Tron though, and thinking that it was only good because of the tron matchup (it was never that great vs tron btw) is a trap.

That said, I would consider moving it to the side, or using Alpine Moon in the side instead, and bringing in Rabbles. I think potentially the rabble/hazoret package is good enough to run all the time, but I wanna test out Nahiri first before I make that call.

Yeah I feel like Surgical is a bit narrow. And I'm still kinda of the assumption that Phoenix is bad in this deck, I feel like it requires you to be both bad Mardu and bad Runaway Red.

So... in general, how are people feeling about this deck lately? I'm really considering putting it down.

Being a midrange player feels pretty bad right now. I play mainly Mardu and geez. I may have to take a break from the format.

As for fair vs unfair I think it's very subjective. I wonder how fair vs unfair coincides with linear/nonlinear.

Yeah, the runaway red lists are much different than Pyro. I think Arclight Phoenix doesn't have much of a place in the deck and Steam-Kin requires too much commitment to red spells to really be consistent (given that a lot of our one-mana spells are black.) But perhaps testing would prove otherwise.

I've decided to throw a Lightning Helix in my deck. Also testing Nahiri, and Pithing Needle in the side to help vs control. We'll see how this goes. I'm kinda starting to veer towards selfeisek's list, but I'm a little confused about his Sideboard, to be honest.

Fair enough. If you were to go with neither, what cards are on the top of your list as replacements?

I'm not sure what to do with my MD and SB right now...

I have a lot of meh-be cards for the SB, like Molten Rain, Stony Silence, etc. I think I want to try removing my final copy of Wear//Tear for something like these, but I don't know yet.

Mainboard, I've been fooling around with the slot that used to be Manamorphose. There are a few options here. I like Terminate or Dreadbore but I'm still unsure as to which is currently better, though at least towards my control-heavy meta I'm leaning towards the Bore. Liliana the Last Hope is the only other truly obvious flex spot, and I haven't really decided what I could jam in here that's not Lili. I definitely haven't been feeling her recently, but that might be confirmation/negativity bias. To be honest, I haven't really SEEN or played with her in most of my games so who's to say if she's really good or not.

Goblin Rabblemaster mainboard is the one thing that I've been seeing people do a lot. Often in place of Blood Moon. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but given that Moon isn't really the "Gotcha" card it used to be, maybe I'll try moving it to the sideboard and putting the Rabblemasters back in. I do have to admit that I've never been pleased with them in the mainboard, however.

    Hey guys!

After another unsatisfactory tournament finish tonight, I'm trying to figure out what I can do to be better. I've been playing a pretty wide field, probably the most common thing I run into is some variation on control (usually U/W but also Grixis and U/B.) but aside from that I've played... everything.

I just feel really lackluster and like I'm not playing well enough/adjusting my deck and sideboard well enough. Here's the deck.

I was doing pretty well with a very similar list about a month and a half ago, but recently I just can't seem to put up results.

Best case scenario we get an instant speed Dreadbore?

Drake Haven is pretty sweet, honestly! Letting me "kick" my cycles to get a drake is pretty darn good!

Amonkhet is making a REALLY good argument for me to build a Grixis cycling deck! (Probably with [[Sedris, the Traitor King]] at the helm unless we get a super super cool Grixis legend.)

Seems super meh to me. I guess if you can make really big tokens this is kinda useful but white and blue don't have a ton of ways to make super big tokens, which leaves Voltron. He has the cost for it, but he can only make himself unblockable if he's a token, so he has to die for that, and then be recast for five mana... seems like so much work when Sygg, River Guide exists for the same PT/Cost ratio.

    *Yawn*

    Monuments are kinda interesting.

If this is all the set has to offer though, I'm severely disappointed. Nothing interesting today, at least not from the Mothership.

Either they're holding onto something big for the middle of the week, or they didn't do a good job picking spoilers that'll actually be interesting.
