I was talking to Mark (EDH advisor 1v1 extraordinaire) in Cockatrice a couple of times. He told me (or us who chats during matches and waiting period) that Hermit Druid isn't much of a threat if you have something that kills him. I have yet to see him play against that deck.

I have to say, the nickname has a ring to it.

Speaking for myself, druid isn't really that much of a threat in the current 1v1 metagame anymore. It's lost a lot of it's strength which actually came from a surprise factor and the state of the metagame at its inception, which did not focus on early removal or counter magic. The current competitive 1v1 meta consists primarily of two archetypes:

    1) Ux Twister builds focus on accelerating early with efficient counter backup into any sort of wincon.

    2) The decks meta'd against those decks, generally designed as 5c control decks with heavy amounts of removal.

Simply put, if you're not running a deck chocked full of removal and blue, you're not competitive at the moment. That's a good rule of thumb. If you want some advice on how to go about building either archetype, feel free to message me here, cockatrice, etc. If you're looking for a sample list, I'll be happy to supply those, too.

My Cockatrice user is Mark - EDH Advisor.

  • posted a message on Why do players get angry when someone actually WINS in a casual format?
Granted, I'm more cutthroat than most, but I think the answer is to the 'winning' question is pretty obvious for myself.

Whether it be turn 2 or turn 200, players need to recognize a boardstate from which they will not recover and simply move on to the next game if they rather not wait 20 minutes for the blue player to combo out or get beaten down by the infinite tokens. It's not a matter of finality in playing out the combokill or whatever method is being used - the finality is there as soon as an unrecoverable boardstate has been achieved. The anger is derived from a forlorn hope that your deck can still win - if you chalk it up to, "Well, I can't beat the 90 mana turn 2 or guy setting up to kill me with Avenger" and move on to next game, your chances at winning increase exponentially and you can avoid the anger associated with the frustration of waiting for someone else to kill you.

Tl;dr - Concession is healthier for your anger than waiting. Also faster.

    Hello MTGS!

Long time no see. I really ought to post some updated decklists on here. In any case, I just wanted to announce a new series of articles I've been working on regarding how to build efficient decks (stripped based on functionality and cohesion and taken step at a time) for Epicmtg. They're hosted below, and I would hope that they may be of use to some in this forum! There are also short introductory videos to the articles found on Epicmtg's youtube. I realize this is a shameless plug, but I figure it's better than reposting the full articles on here one at a time! Feel free to check them out and leave any critique either in a response here or on their website.

    Best,

    Mark

My Japanese is so/so, but from what I gather.

    Creature - Human Wizard

At the beginning of your end step, if you control 4 creatures named ~ you win the game.

All Sarcasm aside, I truly think that the RC has hope for Green as being a "fair" color, along with the 3 respectable colors, and is leaving blue as the broken spike scapegoat that would take a set of serial bans to correct. Just a thought.

  • posted a message on Dying on the Stack
Creatures cannot die on the stack, as they have not yet resolved. In order for your creature to be a legal target of Shock it must be in play. If it is play, its trigger has already been placed on the stack and shock in response to that trigger will not prevent the trigger from resolving. If your creature were to not resolve (if it were countered, for example), then it would never come into play and its trigger would not be added to the stack.

This of course does not take into account additional spells that could stop the come into play trigger, such as Stifle

Not that I get to use it this way that often, but the most fun card ever with Consecrated Sphinx

Jace going to the graveyard is a statebased effect of him having 0 counters on him. As he would have 0 counters post combat, he will be placed in the graveyard regardless as to his "indestructibility"

    Hello All,

There was an update to the MTGCommander.net website earlier today, but I can't seem to find any new information. Anyone else figure out what was updated?

It does work with Storm though, correct?

No. Storm places copies on the stack, as opposed to casting new spells.

    No Mercy

I had No Mercy on the field and my opponent casts Sword and equip to a creature. He swings and I don't block just to see what would happen... I thought his creature would still be protected but on MTGO the creature still was destroyed... is this because there is no "target" on the enchantment or is this a bug in the system?

Correct. No Mercy does not target, so Protection does not stop the creature from dying.

Many competitive arcum lists these days go for Possessed Portal and Myr Turbine to act as stax fodder / fuel for further searching.

I need more ways to power out Kaalia at least a turn sooner. I've got all the usual suspects here but I could use a few more. I'm using:

Mox Diamond and Mox Opal didn't work out for me. With Opal I just couldn't always hit metalcraft early enough. When it was good it was amazing but most of the time it was a do nothing card. With diamond I found that I'd play it, pitch a land, then miss a land drop on like turn 3 at which point it was the same as if I just hadn't played Diamond at all except that I was down a card in hand. Sometimes it worked out but most of the time it was no better than the land I had to pitch with it. I am considering Mana Crypt it will probably make the cut, Mana Vault however is just garbage in this deck, I'd sooner run Dark Ritual. Monoliths are also pretty lackluster in Kaalia.

    Fellwar Stone
    Star Compass
depending on your t1 wayfarer's bottle
Depending on how ballsy you wanna be Helm of Awakening or the medallions (Pearl Medallion, Jet Medallion , Ruby medallion
Mana Crypt is absolutely worth it. So is vault, if you build right.

I have had this thing on pre-order for a while, and am thinking of getting a second as well. I am *Assuming* this will be a land based release, and am curious as to what cards could possibly be in here.
my hope is to see a foil Lake of the Dead, and even though a friend told me it would never happen Gaea's Cradle. any information on never going to see reprints would also be nice..... if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be mighty appreciative.

The product info can be found here:

    http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=396748

Additionally, Lake of the Dead and Gaea's Cradle will not be reprinted as they are on the reserve list.

But Mystical, Enlightened, Worldly and Gamble are still legal. Strange.

They're not as versatile is the thing. It's the tutor anything that got them banned.
