Okay so i played my Dredgevine-list in our local FNM this friday.
got to say it went pretty well.

first of all here's the list so everyone knows what i was working with

    1st Round against UR-Delver

I know the matchup pretty well and i actualy like it. His gameplan doesn't interact that well with mine, countering and burning out my creatures doesn't help him that much.
The only way how he could win is with a Young Pyromancer getting out of hand for masses of chumpblockers and burning me out.
    Boarding: + 2 Rakdos Charm + 2 Darkblast - 4 Bloodghast

I'm up to a fairly slow start but can establish some creatures on the board to pressure him. I drop to 9 with him having a flipped delver and a snapcaster on Board I got 2 Birds a vengevine and a lotleth troll.
Afraid of doublebolt i chump his delver 2 Turns with my Birds and kill him with the groundcreatures. After the game he reveals 2 Bolts.

    2nd Round against GW-Hatebears

He's new to our local shop and doesnt know my deck, but pathing my vengevines is pretty good anyway. I made a pretty severe mistake in this game, after him having pathed 2 of my vengevines I get another on board, with Tymaret in graveyard. The next Turn I tap out for a creature that actualy doesn't provide any advantage. If I had left up 2 mana for tymarets ability he would not have been able to path my 3rd Vengeevine. Was still able to beat him with Lotleth troll anyway.

    Boarding: +2 Darkblast +1 Blasting Station - 2 Bloodghast - 1 Lightning Bolt

Don't know how but won this game as well.

    3rd Round against Affinity

Beeing on the play is a pretty significant advantage here. Needlessly to say I loose the dieroll.
1st game I loose to him beeing on the play. If i recolect the boardstate right I would have won the other way round.

    Boarding: + 3 Abrupt Decay + 2 Rakdos Charm + 1 Golgari Charm + 1 Creeping Corrosion - 4 Gravecrawler - 4 Bloodghast
I dont want creatures that cannot play def against him, so I take all 8 "cannot block" out.

The 2nd Game was pretty grindy and with enough dredged Ancient grudges I can win this.

3rd Game. He takes a mulligan to 6. I keep 3 Lands, Bird, Bolt , 2 Ancient Grudge, drawing Lotleth Troll, Stinkweed Imp ....gg

    4th Round vs RATs

Okay this one was strange. I know the guy playing the deck and I know he likes to brew.
    Cards in his deck

So he actualy helps me with all the discard :p

He's not that happy to play against me, cause he knows that his strategy helps mine as well.

Game 1 went easily in my favor.

    Boarding: +2 Rakdos Charm, +1 Blasting Station, - 2 Bloodghast, - 1 Abrupt Decay

He managed to stall out the board after some turns. The game went pretty grindy and I wasnt able to atack at all after some time.
But I knew that i still had 3 outs for this situation, he was on 6 life with 6 creatures and i was on 13 life with 7 so Rakdos charm was a hit. Tymaret would have been able to end the game as well.
I stopped dredging and flashbacked 2 Faithless Lootings. Found a Rakdos Charm and won.

    4-0

I like to play this deck a lot and I would play it more often if there would be more modern events nearby.
I think Bloodghast is the worst creature in the deck against fast decks, he cannot block and is slow as a clock himself.
On the other Hand I don't want to miss him against any control-deck, so I wont replace him.

Okay I think thats enough for know, thanks for reading and I hope you like my list.

    Regards

    Me

//edit: I will add the cardtags later

No I didnt start from your list, thats why i said it's a derivate from the McDuffie List.

Your list is verry discardoriented and without blue i got to agree that the Landcount should be higher.
Dack and Lilly are nothing alike to be honest, Dack just breezes through your deck searching for the cards you need.
Blue adds, with cards like Ponder and Brainstorm, a high value way of finding lands and actualy you dont want to have to many lands.
To be honest till now I had more of an issue with having to many then with having not enough lands.
Looking weak to Price decks might be a problem but there is no way to exchange the duals with Basics. (You cannot have a great matchup against them all)
Bloodmoon and B2B demand an answer, thats true but Krosan grip or Decay in the board actualy work pretty well.
Against Wasteland-decks there will be an additional Loam in the 15.
I dont like Mox Diamond in this Deck to be honest, since u just put yourself 2 cards down for an additional Mana,
that can be destroyed by Decay

    Hey Guys,

I need some help with a brew i came up with. The more the merrier works with brewing up new stuff as well I think.

The base of the list is a derivate fromthe Korey McDuffie Pyro Loam list:

    http://www.starcitygames.com/events/coverage/deck_tech_pyro_loam_with_korey.html

So lets just jump to the list for now:

I reduced the black cards by quite a bit so i only use black mana for Cabal Therapy, activation of Deathrite Shaman and potential Sideboard options.

First of all let me explain som of the card choices I made.

    Cardchoices

Young Pyromancer: With ten Cantrips and the recursive engine of Punishing Fire and Life from the Loam there should be no shortage of cards to trigger this little board-flooding powerhouse. On the other side he makes the Flashback of Cabal Therapy more easily accessable.

Deathrite Shaman: I dont think i got to explain why he is a nice Creature. Mana ramp, damage on a stick and prolonging the game by gaining life are all more then enough to put him in here.

Edric, Spymaster of Trest: Pretty absurd with Young Pyromancer and a good way to gain card advantage. Pyro + Edric: Tokes -> more card -> more Tokens. Rinse and repeat.

Dack Fayden: Actualy this was the card that made me pick up this deck again after all. I think he needs a graveyard based strategie to make use of his +1 ability and use up his full potential. Loam - Punising Fire - Cabal Therapie... I think I mke good use of him.

Ponder Brainstorm Gitaxian Probe: Cantrips... what would be a blue legacy deck without them.

Intuition: Searching for the cards u need with many recursive parts in the deck nothing is realy gone forever. Thespian's Stage + Dark Depths + Life fromthe Loam as a potential combo-win..

Cabal Therapy: Handdisruption of choice, searchable with Intuition and free flashback with Pyromancer.

Okay since I didn't yet play this deck enough to make statements about its bad matchups, I cannot tell you yet what the main problems are,
even if I have some Ideas about that. (aggro-tempo-based decks might be a problem e.g.: RUG-Delver)
But like I said, the more people are racking their brains about somthing the more usefull ideas might show up, so don't hold back.
Give me your opinion, ideas and suggestions on how to mke this better. I'm also open to sideboard ideas. I allready made up my mind about some of the slots in the 15 but I'm not yet sure.

    Thanks for your help.

    Kind Regards

    Me Wink

That's correct but I think a little more explanation is necessary here.

Okay let's assume you got some lands + an Overgrown battlement and are on 3 life... your opponnt has 2 3/3's now u cast Primeval Titan. You announce it,
but than you see you only got 5 Lands and tapping the Overgrown Battlement would mean your dead since u got only the Titan as a blocker left.

601.2. ...If, at any point during the casting of a spell, a player is unable to comply with any of the steps listed below, the casting of the spell is illegal; the game returns to the moment before that spell started to be cast (see rule 717, "Handling Illegal Actions")...

    Announce (and place on stack)
    Choose (modes)
    Target
    How (to divide)
    Total (costs)
    Mana (abilities, activate)
    Pay (costs)

We (and I mean us judges) cannot force you to tap lands and/or other sources for mana Wink
So if you see that the tapping would not be in your favor you can rewind it.

If your opponent is faster than you like you anounce the titan and he casts a counter without waiting for u to get through each step...
thats a little more difficult but actualy not your fault. Except if u do it on purpose and we got some cheating here Wink

    another example would be...

"I attack with Desecration Demon, Pack Rat and... oh wait i dont atack with the Demon."

It's perfectly fine until you give your opponent priority. If you pass priority you declared your atackers and are not able to alter it anymore.

So actualy you are commited to an action when you did all things needed for the action to be legal.

Okay so i played my Dredgevine-list in 2 smaller tournaments now and i got to say it worked pretty well.

first of all here's the list so everyone knows what i was working with

    1st Tournament

We have been 10 People so 4 Rounds were played.

    1st Round Vs Affinity
The match was pretty easy. In the first game i had a bloodghast + Vengevine out 2nd turn and had 2 removal on hand.
The second game was even less challenging. I kept a hand with a creeping corrosion and a bird to get it out turn 3, destroying his whole board.

    Boarding:
    -4 Blodghast
    +3 Ancient Grudge
    +1 Creeping Corrosion

I like to reduce the creatures not able to interact with his in this match up and I think Bloodghast is the least important creature in this deck anyway.

    2nd Round Vs BG-Rock
I knew that guy pretty well and we even tested the matchup before the tournament so I actualy prepared for a beating.
Phyrexian Obliterator is not a creature you want to see against you on the board.
It went better than expected. The first game I flooded the board with 3 gravecrawlers at turn 2,
he was flooded with no good creatures except a lonely Dark Confidant.
After some tim he revealed an Obliterator dropping him to 2 life meaning that he was not able to cast it since i had 3 crawlers.
he casted a Prophet of kruphix playing a Land from top going to 3... then he flipped his top card...
Liliana of the Veil since his Dark Confidant was still alive, that was game 1 Smile
Game 2 was nearly the same with him getting screwed instead of flooded after a mulligan to 5.

    Boarding:
    -3 Lightning Bolt
    -2 Bloodghast
    +3 Thoughtseize
    +2 Vengefull Pharao

Bolt is worse than Decay in this matchup, Bloodghast is my default cut anyway.
Thoughtseize is pretty good cause most of their cards are late game oriented.
The Pharao helps to kill threats that cost more then 3 Mana like Obliterator.

    3rd Round Vs 4color Gifts.
I actualy like to play against control decks. But the Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite in this deck gave me the creeps.
But here as well i was a lot faster than he was.
Turn 3 double Vengevine after lootings and Grisly salvage on Turn 1 and 2 are a pretty fast clock. So game 1 ended before he was able to cast his unburial...
1 Turn slower and it might have been a little bit different.
Game 2 i had to struggle through 2 Nihil Spellbombs. But since you are actualy see them coming it's not difficult to play around them.
Him beeing screwed at 2 lands and a bird, which met an early end by getting hit by a bolt sealed the deal.

    Boarding:
    -4 Abrupt Decay
    -1 Lightning Bolt
    +2 Rakdos Charm
    +3 Thoughtseize

Against control-matchups you want to reduce the removal and decay is actualy pretty bad here except you think they board in Rest in Peace.
Rakdos Charm helps to interfere with their Graveyard plan and Thoughtseize just does what it is intended to do.

4th Round Vs Affinity(again but other player)
1st game went fast. i got 2 vengevine out turn 2 but since he played first he had an absurd start with attacking for 10 infect turn 3...
dont know the exact boardstate but yeah 10 infect turn 3
2nd game went better for me again som vengevine and grudges sealed the deal pretty quick.
3rd Game was slow and grindy, he had an early relic but i made him pop that one fast.
The card that realy was awesome in this game was, Tymaret, the Murder King.
With setting up attacks that would have been not favorable for me without him. He had a 5/5 Vaultskirge due to an arcbound Ravager,
but beeing able to sac the creature before damage was pretty nice. No lifelink for you.
My defense was pretty nice as well. Stinkweed Imp hold the fort against any attacking creature and just simple came dredged back at the next turn.

    Boarding:
    same as match 1

So I went 4:0 at this one... this post got rather long so I stop here and will give you the report of the 2nd tournament another time.

    Regards
    Agony

How is your expirience with Tymaret, the Murder King?

He is verry good in my opinion since u can use his ability instantspeed its pretty usefull to activate it in response to a removal or something like this. On the other hand he's an alternate win condition, especialy if the board gets in a stalemate situation what might happen sometimes. What might not come up that often but at the tournament I attended is, if u block a lifelink Creature and sac the blocker to Tymarets ability thats no lifelink for your opponent Smile

I will be playing in a local Moderntournament tommorow.
This is the list I'm tinkering with right now.

My impression is that this list does what it is intended to. But sometimes the draws can be a little bit rough.
Most times i get out of the gates pretty fast and can close up the game easily, but some of the startinghands are pretty awkward especialy without grisly and lootings.

I'm pretty open to all ideas you got to this list.

  • posted a message on Oblivion Ring Question
Okay i got a little problem with my local judge. Maybe I'm wrong but i think he is.

OKay the question refers to Oblivion Ring, i was playing in a game with my Vamp deck against a UW-Control. The Board included 2 Vampire Hexmage on my side and 1 Jace on the other side, the rest is not important. Okay now my opponent wanted to play an Oring, since I'm not able to counter it it resolved okay so my point now is:

My opponent has to announce when the ORing enters BF which of my Hexmages he is targeting, the effeckt is put on the stack and i am able to sac this Hexmage to destroy Jace. Since the Oring has no legal target it fizzles.

410.4a If a triggered ability is modal (that is, it uses the phrase “Choose one —” or “[specified player] chooses one —”), its controller announces the mode choice when he or she puts the ability on the stack. If one of the modes would be illegal to play (due to an inability to choose legal targets, for example), that mode can’t be chosen. If no mode can be chosen, the ability is removed from the stack.

I dont realy know the explanation the judge gave me anymore but the thing he said was, that I have to sac the Hex before the Oring enters otherwise i cant do it anymore cause when the Oring resolves i cant respond anymore.

    Could anyone pls help me?

    Shini
