I didn't see Wave of reckoning on the list. Did I miss it? A much better wipe then some of the others listed.

Reading this I would say Ghave is the dude to choose. He is great toolbox colors and he himself acts a sac outlet when needed. You can go a million different routes with at the helm. I play a token based deck, but I also run Jared and all the dudes that put counters on and remove counters. You can make the deck do so much without really trying. Cards like Spike Weaver can save you during combat, and Cathars' Crusade loves Ghave. You get card draw/board wipes and recursion all in one. What's not to like about the guy?

No love for Fairies? Oona would like to talk with you guys! I have found Fairies to be way more powerful than many of the decks listed here. So many tutors/counters/board wipes/ bounce. Once Oona gets rolling its too late. I used to use her but realized once Oona was online, the game was already over with. And God forbid you play a mono color deck like Krenko or Azusa.

So many options in mono blue. You could build a deck based around copying effects and win with other peoples stuff. You can play stuff that targets, runs Dismiss into dreams, and control the board. Strait control while hosing the board with things like Torpor Orb and Portcullis, and pillow effects. I guess it all depends on your meta and your idea of fun stuff. I run a MU deck that does the latter without being completely oppressive. I do bounce the board a lot, but what else is blue to really do.

  • posted a message on Need a deck for a less powerful playgroup
If you want to build a new deck, try something Tribal or go with out certain types of cards. Build a deck that is pure tokens/agro, tribal fun stuff, no counters, no removal and no stax builds. Pick something that will help give the other players good ideas, besides combo, and control. A decent tribal deck can be cheap and competitive. Try Merfolk or Birds. Off the wall, challenging, but can be fun to play. Stay away from to many staples, and find a few obscure fun cards to play.

I know I have seen several new players leave EDH because they feel they can not compete with other peoples decks, and some of them refused to try anything new. Kudos to you for trying to help out.

  • posted a message on [[MCD]] The Best and Most Playable Planeswalkers in EDH
So many planeswalkers so little time. I like the idea behind the thread, but it is very subjective. Most walkers are pretty good in EDH, as long as they are just not crammed into a deck just because. Most people build their decks around their walkers, and almost nobody drops a walker unprotected, unless they can fairly well protect them. I think Jace, the Minsculptor and Vensor are amazing. As are Karn, Nikol Bolas and Vraska. Anything that comes into play and can bounce, destroy or exile is amazing in a game of resources. Basically any walker that can net an advantage that helps the long term goal is good.

that would give incentive to farm points even if you're already in first place

Point farming is strictly enforced. By strictly, I mean casually:nod:. We actually haven't had an issue with it yet. There are enough ways to earn points, that it hasn't been a problem. And the more points you earn, the more bounty we can place on an individual. The biggest thing to our league is the achievement system. If you really want to be successful, you have to retune your deck, or run several different decks. You can still accumulate good points weekly, without doing that though. Trying to reach the achievements can be difficult but rewarding and helps you at the end of the league.

My LGS runs a league with a $3 buy in for each week you play, that goes to a prize pool at the end of the league. We use a points system that rewards players for playing in a way that is fun for most, and not detrimental to any play styles. Certain things are frowned upon, and receive negative points (Mass LD/Infinite turns). We also have a separate sportsmanship achievement kept in the store and award a prize for that. We also use our list of points as an achievement system, and track who has accomplished certain difficult points.

At the end of the league, we use the points you have accumulated to auction off all prizes. League winner receives a custom playmat from the store. The league has been mostly self correcting so it is very difficult to dominate a league. League leaders get a bounty placed on them, and by eliminating them you get bonus points. Great way to keep the league competitive.

  • posted a message on How many EDH decks is to much?
I have 25 with the last two pieces of the pie in the works. Been finishing my 5 color and my colorless for a bit now. 5 is a nice number to have though. I often have a difficult time deciding what to play, and some of them get neglected. Each deck has a purpose though, and some I will never play unless I sit at a table with certain players. I don't run staples in all of them either. Less than half use Sol Ring, SDP and such. Not because I don't have them, I just like to see different cards being played.

  • posted a message on What's your favorite single card to use in Commander?
I have quite a few favs, since I am running 25 decks atm. Jester's Cap, Mirrorweave and Sudden Spoiling are just a few. I think a lot of it for me is situational. Usually any card that can get a good giggle at the time needed, without be obnoxious.

  • posted a message on EDH commandment #11: Thou shall always kill shattergang
I don't even think he is the better commander over Prosh. A good Prosh deck kills everybody by turn 8 if it's left alone. I have killed my entire table with Prosh on turn 6 without ever attacking. Shattergang Brothers are mostly an attrition deck, but needs mana to make it truly effective. Prosh needs Ahsnod's Alter to make it <retarded>.

Casual use of the word 'retarded' is not allowed. Warning for inappropriate language - BlackVise

What banned list are you using? Several cards on the list are on the regular EDH banned list. Upheaval and Prime Time just to name a few.

Anybody down for Suspend? I can see where they give it as an alternate casting cost to some expensive bombs (God cards maybe). Other choice would be split second, which is saucy too.

  • posted a message on Budget? Maze's End Fog
I was running a deck we called Fog gate. I run 20 fog effects, 4 terminus, Possibilty Storm/Curse combo. The deck is basically a Naya shell, but gives you access to Slaughter Games, Nevermore. Zero creatures are used MB, but two Ruric Thar are in SB. I used it on two FNM's and actually won both nights. Nobody saw it coming. I was able to win 3 or 4 games with Maze's End. A few guys were pretty pissed, because the games tend to last.

  • posted a message on Modern Masters at Walmart?
The store I run events for is getting 17 boxes. 6 are being sold @MSRP to the first 6 people who walk in to buy them, and the rest is being drafted @ $25.00 a draft. I myself am a little disappointed with some of the junk (to me) put into the set. So many other good modern cards could have been included. Thoughtsieze needed to be reprinted.
