Because it's a combo you don't have to build. Cast Traumatize on self and win.

Today's 'build a deck around this card' idea:

    Burning Battlefield - 2R
    Enchantment
Whenever a land enters your graveyard, do 1 damage to target creature or player.
If ~ enters the graveyard from your library, put it onto the battlefield under your control.

Insanely broken. Self mill lands FTW with the added bonus of oopsing multiples of these into play. Also, Countryside Crusher and Seismic Assault

...For the keepsake gorgon pick, I admit at that point my deck may have preferred it over lightning strike, but there is an argument that lightning strike is just a strictly a better card...

I disagree vehemently on this point. Keepsake Gorgon is arguably the best uncommon in the set running neck and neck with Phalanx Leader. If you had a p1p1 filled with garbage cards, Lightning Strike, and Keepsake Gorogon there is no way you could pick Lightning Strike. Shoot, I would jump ship to black on a p1p4 or p1p5 Keepsake Gorgon every time. It is too good and a sure fire signal.

Video quality is good. Comments are poignant. I do wonder if the fact that this is your first video had you distracted because there was a pick or two that almost looked like you didn't see the whole pack.

As far as the draft goes:

I think p1p3 was a big whiff on Pain Seer. With the number of combat tricks and bestows available to allow him to attack (not to mention regenerating effects like Boon and Necrobite which tap and keep him alive) allow for some great enabling. Just playing him T2 on the play and getting an attack in makes him worth playing. People play Fleshmad Steed and Traveling Philosopher and this guy is much better than that.

The back-to-back Feldhide Brawlers seemed to be where this draft really went sideways for me. Not only do I think the picks were bad, but you went on to make picks in an attempt to make them playable (Deathbellow Raider over Purpherous Emissary in p3p1?!?!). Back-to-back Cyclopseses were the picks here in pack 1.

P3p3 you passed on arguably a top 5 common/uncommon in Keepsake Gorgon in favor of Lightning Strike. This was probably incorrect especially considering how heavy black you are at this point

Overall a pretty mediocre draft but the pack quality early wasn't great so it was hard to figure out what to be in. For future reference, you should still post your draftcap, deck, and match analyses. Not everyone has time to watch vids.

Thread doesn't mention Illusionist's Bracers! Heresy!

When the ability is copied, what is the source? Is there any chance you could target Kiora's Follower with the copied ability? My guess would be no.

Either way, this could be a decent interaction. Probably a bit convoluted for any real constructed applications but who knows?

    2 Kiora's Follower + Illusionist's Bracers = Infinite mana

The argument that Thassa is "infinitely more powerful" than Keepsake Gorgon has to be one of the most hilarious evaluations ever made about this format. Not only is the Gorgon better (Ben Stark said it was likely in the top 10 cards in Theros for limited), but Thassa likely isn't a P1p1 over a bunch of other cards as well, including Wingsteed Rider, Sea God's Revenge (ironically), Phalanx Leader, or any of the better Emissaries. Hell, I think the first pick option between Thassa and Voyage's End or Griptide is actually quite close. If you can't make her a creature with any consistency, she becomes decidedly mediocre.

Keepsake Gorgon is the better card imo, but unless it's a tournament with significant prizes, I'll take the Thassa with no regrets. In the second case, Polukranos is just better than Griptide, and it's not even remotely close. Dealing with your opponent's threat is good, having your own bomb is better.

I wonder if the Oracle will be more playable in Modern where there are plenty of spells to choose from. Worldfire deck for the lulz?

I was worried this pick would put you into black. It would figure that you would already have picked two GR cards already.

Not much I could do about that though. Either Keepsake Gorgon or Gary would likely both have been interpreted as a strong signal that black was open despite my taking a black card for every pick p1p1-p1p8

Quite happy to have been part of this pod Smile

Definitely agree that Keepsake Gorgon would have been just as strong a signal in my mind (if not stronger). Going GB, G, GB, B in the first four picks pretty much sealed the deal that I was looking nowhere else but those colors for the remainder of the draft.

    Match 3 against magicmerl:

G1: Reaper, Reaper, Asp against RW aggro is hard to overcome
G2: Reaper, Asp, Mender to get back Asp is also hard for RW aggro to overcome.

I think this was more of a "matchup problem" for the archetypes more than anything. Also, merl vented his frustrations with MTGO which made me believe he may have misclicked away a chance of getting to lethal in G2 as he had Pegasus, Wingsteed and Akroan Hoplite ready to launch

    Match 2 against Voynich:

    G1:
We both mull to 6 (my opener was Overlord and 6 lands). He goes T2 Fleecemain into T3 Courser. I almost stabilize with Gary but a post blocks Dauntless Onslaught finishes me off.

    G2:
No mulls, I start with Wanderer, Wanderer, Scorpion and some Scourgemarks for a good aggro start. He ends up dropping two Fleecemains (!) and we trade on eachothers life points for a while. I stabilize with Harpy but he ends up getting there by Pegasus + Staunch + Ordeal. His life total was at 6. I probably should have been more aggressive with my attacks into his Fleecemains as he was stuck on land but I didn't want to get blown out via combat trick. I also got stuck on four land which was a shame as I was holding Nessian Asp and 2 Lash of the Whip.

I just wanted to record my match report somewhere:

    Match 1 against AntiC7:

    G1
    - He wins the roll and mulls to six
    - I keep 3 forest, swamp, wanderer, gary, reaper
    - First play is my Wanderer he is on double swamp
    - I draw into Ordeal of Nylea but fear Pharika's Cure so only attack
    - He drop Wavecrash Triton so I feel safe to Ordeal and swing
    - He Reads the Bones, I drop Reaper
    - He plays Keepsake Gorgon, I attack into him and grab x2 swamp with Ordeal. He blocks Wanderer with Gorgon and takes Reaper, I regen leaving two up for hexproof
    - He bestows deathtouch guy onto Triton. I make bad attack looking for trade with deathtouching Reaper for Triton as I've just drawn Pharika's Mender. He does as such and I mend my Reaper
    - Sparing additional details, the board stalls a bit, but I double Gary to end up getting there

    G2
I sideboard in a Shredding Winds assuming there is some blue flying shenanigans going on. He decides to play
    - I go T1 Wanderer into T2 Ordeal (much to his dismay!)
    - Wanderer ends up meeting a Lash but not after it's been Scourgemarked and gets off all it's attacks for maximum Ordealness
    - Double Gary's end up winning it again after some small benign combat.
