In your shoes I would probably just get a PC.

I have one of the last gen Mac Powerbooks and I absolutely love it. I'll probably never go back to using windows, and I love how blazing fast the new macs are (I have about 8 gigs of ram and the highest budgeted video card/HD apple offered at the time when I bought this).

But seriously, $1000 will get you an awesome laptop that will no doubt be able to run Windows 7 just fine, where as a grand won't get you much in Mac land. I would shy away from Macs unless you use any sort of adobe program (Photoshop, etc.), or any kind of editing software (Final Cut, etc.), which is what I bought mine for.

While I don't do much artsy stuff anymore, it still does everything I want to. I can play World of Warcraft at max settings (never seen it run better on a PC, let alone a laptop,) can run ventrilo, roms, and browse the internet.

I will agree that I like Mac's current OS leaps and bounds more than Vista, but Windows 7 seems to be an absolute jump in the right direction, where Snow Lepoard (Mac's new OS), just seems to be fine tuning a few things, which isn't bad either.

Sit them down and talk to them, and if all else fails don't tell them anything!

Seriously, go out, get your rocks off, and leave them in the dark.

My parents are cool with whatever I choose to do with women (they should be, I'm 18), unless it turns into them having to pay my child support :p I still don't tell them anything, I don't think they've known about any of my relationships since I was in 7th grade.

But seriously, go out and have fun, just spray some axe or something on yourself before you get home so you don't reek of *****.

Look, you're 14 (according to what you said). You're obviously young and not looking at the big picture, just focusing on you, you, and you. I'm not trying to be mean or harsh or anything, but killing yourself is never the way to solve anything. I have never been depressed in the sense that it has affected me, so I am not really talking from emotion.

Read the book Demian. If you're into philosophy, this is it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demian

This is exactly what I wanted to say.

Look kid, I know you think your life sucks, but tough it up.

Problems that you deal with at your age are absolutely insignificant unless it's something absolutely horrible (losing a parent, sexual/physical abuse, hardcore narcotic drug problem). I don't know what your problems are, but if its just girl trouble and parents *****ing at you then you might want to check yourself. You are going to have girl trouble for the rest of your life (it's called having a wife), unless you're gay. Your parents will also always ***** at you about things the rest of your life, school, then job stuff, then getting married, then having kids, then what your kids do, etc.

Honestly, nothing is worth taking your life over at your age. I'm almost 19 now and have my share of "problems", but what keeps me going is that these problems are insignificant to the pleasures and experiences that life has to offer.

I'm not saying that **** doesn't suck for you now, but there's a whole world out there past these problems that will plague you for the rest of your life. We build our own future through learning form these unpleasant experiences, it's how we grow as human beings.

Also, are you diagnosed with a mental illness? No offense, but you might have some form of depression, anxiety, or even mild autism. This isn't a flame, maybe you're pre-disposed view of the world might be from something that you necesarrily can't control. The fact that your problems reek of arrogance and the "know-it-all" attitude might just mean something else is going on with you. Either that or you're just a teenager.

    I laughed.

Honestly, this is one of the shortcomings of being funny. Crack "your mom" jokes for 18 years and you're bound to run into a brick wall of "oops" sooner or later. Trust me, it's happened to me before.

Just apologize even if she doesn't care, it's the polite thing to do.

  • posted a message on How to quit Lying
You really have to understand the consequences of lying, even if it's a harmless white lie.

I do this all the time too, I'll lie and say that I can benchpress a couple more pounds than I can, say that I can drink a few more beers than I probably can hold, or say that I've done things or accomplished things that I haven't.

The inherent problem here is that trust is an easy thing to lose but an extremely hard thing to get back. One of my best friends is a compulsive liar, but lies about the dumbest stuff possible (video game scores, money, amount of girls he's slept with, etc.), but the fact that he lies at all makes me doubt almost everything he says, even when it's serious.

Trust and lying are both one-dimensional (at least for me). I trust people easily, maybe even too easily, but when someone lies about something small, it becomes harder for me to trust them about things that matter. A stack of small lies can pile up to be something larger than you can control. A good example of my point is the game Jenga (game where you stack blocks and pull them out to see who breaks the stack first). The blocks are very tiny, but even one coming out can ruin the whole stack. Even if someone catches you lying about something completely insignificant, it becomes exponentially harder for that person to trust you about anything.

I would have told him face to face

This all sounds mad iffy though, you THINK he's in love with this girl (love is an easy term to throw around and not know what it means too), and it sounds like this girl isn't someone he should waste his time on if she'll bone you on some drunken adventure.

I would definitely have told him, but it sounds like he would be pissed. Finding out the girl you "love" is not only creepin', but with your best bud would probably make me want to hit anyone in the face. Good to hear the situation is resolved though, if he didn't hit you he's a much much better man than I.

Also, whoever said to cut back on the drinking: Shame on you!

This has bad news written all over it.

Before I read your last post (spoilers ftl), I would have said this.

    Run.

Honestly, you are absolutely fooling yourself if you think that any girl who is interested in your friend is going to jump into your arms after hearing that you like her. Even if your friend is the world's biggest d-bag and doesn't care about her at all she'll still hang onto him like a lost puppy.

It's how girls work honestly. Once they find their mark it's extremely hard to veer them off course, especially if you're in the "friend" zone (which it sounds like you are). Let your friend get his, and in the 10% likelihood that your girl realizes what a tool she's been maybe she'll run back to you if you aren't a jerk. It's probably not going to happen though, you really shouldn't fool yourself.

Also, please please please take medication. I know some people don't like taking pills because they don't know how it will affect them, but at least try some different medications. Taking medication for my OCD honestly saved my life, I don't know where I would be without it.

I just wanted to pop in and say a few words. I've been reading this thread since page one and just wanted to comment on how wonderful I think it is that by continual effort, Artisticallyaltered has become one of my favorite alterers on these forums. In the beginning I saw the Lash Out of hers and thought it wasn't exactly the best. But as AA kept altering more and more cards I grew more impressed each time, until now, where I am amazed every time she posts.

Congrats AA, you have made such an improvement from when you began.

I hate to sound like I'm flaming you, but your grammar is so poor that it's hard very hard to understand you. I can't even understand the second half of your post, and it's annoying for people who read your posts to have to navigate through your broken english.

I honestly couldn't spell so poorly even if I tried, is English your second language, or can you just not make the effort to even hit the right letters on your keyboard?

I went 3-1 in my first sealed pod and ended up in third, and signed up for another one.

I was opening my pool and such, when I realized that I had a pretty good U/W deck going on. I opened my last pack of Morningtide, the latter of which had been nothing but chaff, and looked at my cards. There was a foil Stonehewer Giant, which I was excited about. I threw the token somewhere and then looked at the rare.... Another Stonehewer Giant! My friends all laughed that UI actually opened two of the same rare in one pack, and the judges, one of who saw me open the pack couldn't believe what happened.

Needless to say, I went 3-0-1 in that flight, got first place and took home quite a few packs. My opponent round one, during our second game started to complain when I played Stonehewer Giant turn five for the second game in a row. He really wasn't happy when I played the other one next turn, and a Purity after that!

All this change to Magic is really sudden, and quite frankly, I don't like any of it.

First off, as a player who is transitioning from being decent (top 8'ing PTQ's and the like, winning MSS qualifiers every year,) I feel very alienated with these changes in motion. As someone who isn't good enough to win a PTQ, especially now that level three mages can sling at them, I feel like I have less of a shot of going anywhere with the game. The MSS, my main source of competitive Magic play, and my main reason for playing the game is gone, and I am almost left with no option other than lucking out and possibly winning a PTQ in a field of players who far surpass me in experience and playskill. Duking it out against some of the local ptq players, who are quite good, intimidated me before, but now with people like Jon Sonne and Gerrard Fabiano playing at my local PTQs, I feel like I have less of a shot than ever to take the next step on getting better, which would be to qualify for the pro tour. The elimination of the MSS also makes me feel as if standard is the most irrelevant format in Magic now, as I only have to care about it two days of the year (States, Regionals,) Unless I qualify for Nationals or go to a standard GP.

I also feel that the elimination of am. money at GP's is a big blow too, I have come close to cashing in before, and the thought of having to go even further to do so makes me upset.

These changes are probably WOTC's way of telling me to get better, and if I had the time to jump onto MODO and start to really get involved to the point in where I would want to make Magic a prodominate part of my life I would, but at this time, it's just not happening, and because of that, I fell like all there is for me is the ocasional PTQ and GP for competitive events, unless I want to FNM for the rest of my days.
