The End of an Era

Slivers, play your hand and turn cards sideways. As easy as pauper gets.

Urza-Tron, my personal favorite. Easy to learn, some what skill intensive. Acts as a ramp/control deck. As you get better the ceiling for your win% to go up rises with your skill, IMO a card or 2 away from being the best deck in the format. Control is an uphill fight, if we get something to battle that I really believe this will be "THE" deck in pauper.

I think if I was starting out again right now I would be all over affinity, I am debating playing it myself. It is competitive, we all know it is around and pack hate for it but yet it still makes top 4's and top 8's in the premier events. Even with artifact hate it has games where you lose no matter what, although I will admit the deck loses to its self with bad draws back when I played it (pre Perilous Research). It is now a much better deck and less reliant on the Atog and Fling combo with disciple of the vault on the board.

You want at least 8 one drop accelerators to start the land destruction inn turn 2. Turn 3 some rain is too slow.

    ^^^
Turn 3 land destruction against goblins or affinity is a sure loss every time. Get 6-8 mana accelerators, maybe 1-2 khalni heart garden lands to reap and sow for against MBC so when they Geth's Verdict you your win condition doesn't get sac'd as well.

Auto lose to control IMO, yeah keeping them off land is nice. But a counterspell only takes 2 mana. A good control player will manage to keep lands open and save counterspells for what beats them. Especially since you could stall and not draw a win condition.

As an Urza-Tron player I will throw in my 2 cents, most white weenie decks don't apply much pressure. A typical game goes as such.

Turn 1: I play a land, if on the draw I possibly play a burn spell if you play a war falcon, on the play I will play an egg or expedition map if I want an early tron.
Turn 2: This is where I burn if I didn't already or if I did; Play a mana fixer such as Ancient stirrings, prism or egg.
Turn 3: Generally a seagate oracle comes out to stall the game or I start my aggressive dig for Tron.
Turn 4: By this turn I "should" have Tron in hand or on the board. Generally a "set up" turn for my 5th turn with maybe a burn spell if I am lucky.
Turn 5: Either a Marauder comes down with an egg or 2 cracked, possibly rolling thunder if I am lucky. If you don't have an answer for Marauder (you should for the first 1-2) or you don't have too much board presence this is where I am able to calm down and start feeling secure.
Turn 6: From here on we start dropping threats and/or enabling our draw engine to gather burn spells with the ability to flash them back.

The longer the game goes on the worse your odds are against us, we can burn and draw as well as cloudpost did as well as play some of the biggest beaters in the game. Turns 2-4 is where you win/lose the game generally. Like all aggro decks your weaknesses against us is we can stall you for the first turn or 2 if we have an opening hand of 2 bolts with you having no follow up creatures.

Our weaknesses is sometimes we get no burn and you get all gas, turn 1 falcon, turn 2 sky fisher, turn 3 some random BS and turn 4 more BS to keep pressure. Games like this with no removal make my only win condition a Marauder to stall the game out to buy time to assemble tron and Rolling Thunder. If you sideboard and get no sideboard hate against us but get a 2 land, super aggressive hand; KEEP IT EVERY TIME!

Lorddowney has an ideal deck to go against us, haven't played against his WW deck so I cannot attest to how well it does against Tron but it is almost textbook to what you want to do. Unsure about how it does against the field, then again I hate WW with a passion. I remember the days when WW was auto pilot and if you played it you almost always went 3-1, people would misplay 3 turns in a row and still win even when you would play perfect against them. That was so frustrating that even to this day my motto is "any day a WW player loses in a tournament is a good day".

Yeah after thinking it over I am selling my collection today, the best I can do is give MTGO the finger for screwing us over. The last 2 weeks I had been test playing RUG Tron for multiple hours each day and finally tweaked the deck to where I had a final version for the current meta and was waiting for Daily Events to come back. All for nothing though, if they make changes to the schedule and add pauper I might comeback; but I will bet even with the out cry of patrons it will go ignored.

So with the new schedule going up Pauper only gets tournaments on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. NO DAILY EVENTS!!! Not saying the sky is falling but this has me debating cashing out of MTGO, only reason I play MTGO is for pauper since it is dead locally.

How bad do you all think this will be for the community?

Unfortunately burn is a straight forward deck, either I have my hate or a hand that can out race you or I don't. I am looking more for decks like MUC, MBC or azorius mill. Decks that interactions that can cost you a match and find out how to tweak to beat those decks.

I have been running Urzatron the last week and a half and so far have been having really great success with the deck and been going infinite. However there are a ton of decks I need to play test against and wondering who else would be interested in a play testing group. Would be nice to have a play testing group where we all can go infinite and tune our decks to the meta. Pauper has become stale and hopefully we can come up with some new tech.

I have Goblins and Green Beat Down along with Urzatron.

Lately delver has been giving me fits with them curving out perfectly, now the last 6 games they've had a one drop followed by a ninja and I had no burn but couldn't afford to mull since my hands were decent other than no burn. Late game oona's grace has killed me, I am debating removing 1 condecend for a syncopate so I can just remove it from game. Concecend isn't bad but it always feel like a win more card when I can cast it if I am not trying to BS my way to victory. Ill still keep one of each andet you all know how my test playing goes.

All this talk about goblins has made me want to rebuilt it now, doing a rough draft of the deck I will build in the coming weeks will be this list.

The sideboard could use some reworking, I feel like I have too much artifact hate and might switch out the Gorilla shamans for electricky but I would have to test play the deck first before I do anything

I vote goblins as well, the deck has a high ceiling when it comes to the skill cap. Yes the deck is turn cards sideways and win but there is a lot of room for game changing plays, plus I think its decently positioned in this meta. Run flaring pain in the sideboard and out race ug temporal post. Most the other top decks can't keep up with it and it has a bit of a surprise factor. I play UR Post and I only really have 3 cards sideboard against goblins so if I see a goblin deck accross from me in a daily I will normally be on edge the entire match.

I played the deck for over a year and had amazing success with it, I actually want to rebuild it and play it in a daily some time soon since WW is dead and that was the one deck that would just destroy it.

By newbies I meant new players of the deck, even the best of players have to learn all the synergies of the deck and how to play 2 turns ahead. I also had a mnemonic wall bit forgot to put it on the deck list lol, I removed my single ulamogs crusher and have been missing him 50% of the time and the other 50% it pays off not having him but I win slower. He is a pilot choice I guess, removal gets him so that's why I've never really liked him.

The object of the deck is to outlast what your opponent is doing whether ot be creatures, direct damage or control amd then stabalize the board to your favor and grind out the win. The games rarely end fast with the deck so always dedicate time to focus on each turn because one bad play will cost u games. Thos deck rewards skilled players and punishes those that make errors. Learning when to tap out and when to leave mana for counterspells is the first big thing to learn but that requires learning all the decks you will ever play against. Once you learn that youshould always have a favorable match up.

The netdecking thing Isnt a bad thing, I went and found a cookie cutter build and fixed it to my play style after like 80 games in the practice games. One thing is to always reflect back on what cost you the game, whether it be a play mistake, bad cards in the deck or whatever and keep track. After like 20 games slowly switch cards out and see if match ups improve or worsen.

I changed my sideboard recently, I have it tuned to give atleast a 50/50 matchup against every deck except temporal post. Main deck i only changed 1 magma spray for a serrated arrows, i Still auto lose game one against it until I get the land destruction but once i sideboard them in its a slight uphill fight to go 2-0 in the match

    4 pyroblast
    2 hydroblast
    2 ancient grudges
    2 earth rift
    3 stone rain
    1 expedition map
    1 electricky

Since I posted the decklist I changed the sideboard to this and went 3-0 in a daily a couple of days ago but got sloppy in round 4 and list to mono blue delver, so the deck can easily win if you understand your goal of the deck. Not saying you don't but I would say this deck has a pretty big learning curve, I've noticed you have the newbies of the deck, then people who you can tell understand the deck and those that have mastered the deck like eightsixeightsix. Control decks are all about tuning to your play style, I like to look at tournament results and look for tech and strategies people are using that I haven't come up with and tweak my deck a little bit. but i couldnt just netdeck someone elses and expect to do well, each control player hand picks his 75 cards amd each has a purpose.

once temporal post gets banned i can see this deck easily reclaiming the throane as the best deck in pauper, i would even go as far to say that it is already but just not played as much as it should be. temporal post being the only deck that i have less than a 50/50 match up in is really good deck against the meta, i dont have a ton of recorded test playing done but about 15-20 games against each of the top 6 decks.
