It's true, Scrye hasn't been useful at all for years. But its passing should still be mourned. For one thing it brought a lot of people (me included) into the game, and it won't do that anymore. And it was the last of the CCG magazines, the last remnant of a time before all strategy discussion and spoilers and community could be found in instants online, a time when it took more effort to find that sort of community. For me, I think, it represents a frontier era of Magic - no one was sure what was what, everything was possible. It's been dying for a long time. Very long. But it's still important that it lived and died. Its death is a symbol. The Internet has taken over. That's both a good and a bad thing - I'm not some foggy nostalgist. Scrye was the past, not the present. It had no place in the present. But the past should be respected, not scorned.

And, by the way, one day when Magic does die, some of you are going to look like damn fools. A bunch of idiots said that Magic was dying when any minor change came along. That doesn't mean that Magic will never die.

If you look at it, people who right now are undecided don't want to vote for Obama "because he's a ******". That's ****ing insane, and also depressing.

What happened to the good old days of the Trey van Cleave smiley?

BTW, you just used "essentially" twice in once sentence. The Grammar Gestapo are on their way to escort you to Nounschwitz. Grin
I post here like once every six months nowadays, I have to meet my quota while I can, essentially.

And it wasn't Trey or anything like that, it was quite a while after that. No incriminating pictures, either, and no smilies to make it from. It was one of Billy Moreno's matches at PTLA. Can't remember exactly what he did, but he and psyduck became jokes on RBS.

Also I just want to say :masked: is awesome.

Yeah, essentially, it was a smiley on Something Awful that was posted in the RBS thread and that essentially got adopted as the mascot there, in connection with some cheaty moves in a Pro Tour (LA, I think). Not sure if it was added before or after that though.

Only two problems with Sebelius: she's less inspiring than a damp rag, and she polls lower than Edwards.

Obama organized better. Obama raised more money.

    Obama got more votes.

As I understand it, Bill could actually be on the ticket for VP and serve as VP. Should Obama resign or get assassinated, Bill would be able to serve out Obama's term but not run again.

The real question is why Bill would actually accept the position when he could just go on chasing young women around Harlem. I can't see a reason why he'd give that up.
My understanding is that it's a matter of interpretation as to whether Bill could be VP, although I think the consensus is that he couldn't. The issue is that the twelfth amendment states that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

My argument for Edwards is simple: look at the polls. Edwards is consistently the highest-polling VP candidate for Obama; in fact, he's the only candidate who helps Obama instead of hurting him. Now, this is obviously very inconclusive, since the polls are flawed in that they don't include Clark, Richardson, or Clinton. But they do give some evidence that Edwards would be a strong choice, which fits with the conventional political wisdom - Edwards is strong in areas where Obama is weak, but they fit together well on policy and rhetoric.

Also, I really doubt Clinton will be the pick. The only reason Obama would ever make her the VP is because he had to for the purposes of party unity. To some extent this nomination battle has been about control and direction of the party, and Obama, having just won, does not want to immediately surrender so great a prize. And it's my opinion that he doesn't have to. A lot of the party tension we were seeing has already begun to subside. Obama doesn't need to appease Clinton's side. This is also an argument against Clark - he's largely a Clinton surrogate at this point, and his inclusion on the ticket would almost certainly be a sop to Clinton.

Edwards is superior to Bill Richardson because he's from a larger state, he's more telegenic and charismatic, and his image fits better with that of Obama.

So in summary: Edwards helps Obama more than anyone who's not a Clinton surrogate or Bill Richardson - the polls show us that. Obama will not pick a Clinton surrogate. Edwards helps Obama more Bill Richardson. Therefore, Edwards should be the pick.

    Or that's my belief.

This is a smart move for WoTC, but I don't think it will increase my enjoyment of the game. Also, frankly, there WILL be tournament must-haves at mythic rare - not dual-land stuff, hopefully, but certainly some top-tier cards will be at mythic rare, and thinking otherwise is frankly naive.

Get Brian Schweitzer up IN this presidential campaign!

(But it'll actually be Edwards, because Edwards gives Obama the best chance to win, especially in white working-class areas where he's had trouble)

You know all those cards they love to have as magic arcana where the art was done as one piece then split up? Like Stronghold Biologist/Stronghold Machinist? That's exactly what this is. The tripartite division is too perfect to be anything else.

Only in the same way that the government is at fault when someone is, say, killed with a gun that would not have been on the streets had stricter gun-control laws been in place, or killed by someone who would have been in prison had a three-strikes law been in place.

That is to say, the fault lies with the lenders; the government simply allowed it to happen.

Ron Paul's appeal is entirely that of the outsider, and maverick candidates have gotten the nomination before.

Unfortunately, unlike a McGovern or a Goldwater, Ron Paul has the disadvantage of having opinions that are actually repulsive to the majority of the members, not just of the public, but of his own party. He also faces the downside of being bat**** insane instead of a principled intellectual.
