Hey guys, first post in a long time. Anyways, been playing games at lunch with friends and I decided I'd make something REALLY nasty. These guys have just started playing recently so I thought I'd show them something that terrorized the meta back when I was playing, but I wanna keep it budgeted since it is just casual and most cards I'll be using wont be standard legal anyways. THAT SAID, I don't want to cherry pick cards from all sets, and I don't want it completely broken and take the fun out, so no Iona. I wanted to use cards that were mostly legal around the time these decks were being played in standard, so I was thinking Progenitus, Darksteel Colossus, couple of cheap ($) Eldrazi etc. I was thinking something along these lines. I of course need to figure out cards totals and what not...
I like this build a lot. You're splashing green just for KotR and Behemoth Sledge but I think it's a good splash. I like the Basilisk Collar in there because there are a lot of first strikers.
I think we need a red splash. Face it, we get whupped by a lot of Tier 1 decks that aren't red or black. It really depends on your build though. If we splash red though, we get a ton of awesome cards, but I'm really dying for Lightning Bolt and Sparkmage combo with a collar. These are both awesome cards and I can't count the times when I wish I had some direct damage or more removal.
That's the problem I face though. I path one fatty and they come back next turn with another huge fatty, sometimes an even bigger threat. Or they play too many to deal with. For example, I played a guy who ran Pellaka Wurm and the lifegain and card advantage was hard to deal with, especially when he got an Artisan of Kozilek and pulled one out of his graveyard that I had already beatdown. Then a late game Gelatinous Genesis ruined me as I failed to draw a DoJ. This deck kinda represents WW's bane: mid-range fattys.
So what the hell? I've noticed a distinct lack of posts on this current deck. With the new set coming out and everyone trying to build the deck, I can't believe you guys haven't commented on it yet.
At just the past FNM, I played against two Eldrazi decks and got utterly destroyed by one and barely squeaked out a victory against the other. Yes, they're slow decks, but they ramp into their huge creatures fast. I've seen most Eldrazi/G decks, so they still have chump blockers for the early game, like Birds, Llanowar, etc. What do you guys think?
I played this match up last night at FNM. I shut him out first game with racing, but second and third game he got his combo off fourth turn and there was nothing I could do about it. Iona lockouts ftl.
I saw them two December's ago. Ivan Moody is from Denver, he came out wearing a Bronco's hoodie. For the encore he told everyone that he didn't want to instiaget anything, but he wanted to see how well we could crowd surf. So I told everyone to take me up, and I'm crowd surfing towards the stage. I'm getting closer to the stage but I'm also getting closer to the security gate. So as I'm getting there I yell "Ivan!" and throw my hand up. At first he just looks at me, laughs, points, and smiles like "Yeah!" but I stay persistent. As security is pulling me down, Ivan comes to the edge of the stage to give me a high five. Awesome moment.
Anyways, I'm glad most of you guys agreed with me. White was pretty strong in there too I think, I was a bit underwhelmed when I first saw staggershock, but I'm beginning to see it's use.
I agree, he looks really good. However, I noticed Pennon Blade right away because of the cool art then I read the card. It looks like crap. Do you guy's agree?
Ok I'm pretty convinced. I have 4 Hada Freeblades in the deck. They're strong because I run 4 Blademasters too, but I think the SoW can easily replace the Freeblades, and the Blademasters can keep their slot because they're still a solid 2 drop.
Wow, this is so eye opening. I didn't even think of that. Oh well, I went on to beat him anyways, it was just something giving me some trouble. Thanks for the responses!

Just for a heads up, what do you draft from a pack that I opened like this?
Ok so obviously, there's some really strong blue and white in this pack. I think I would go with the Coralhelm Commander. Good choice?
Nice! Eldrazi Green pisses me off. My friend runs it and it's about the only MU i can't get around.
That's what I want to do with my BBE too.
