This deck is intended to be an aggressive Black/White Deck with a small red and green splash. I've chosen my mana base carefully to avoid tap lands and to thin my deck for efficiency. The creatures are all very cheap to cast and are aggressive by nature. Athreos keeps pressure by causing opponent to lose life or allowing for quick recursion of small creatures. Iroas is there to make blocking more difficult for my opponent. Purphoros adds a shock to my cheap creatures (Bloadsoaked Champion combos well with Purphoros). Heliod is there for vigilance and token producing. The deck does not rely on any of the God's reaching devotion (Purphoros never will)
I'm looking for input on this deck specifically as it relates to the small green splash for Siege Rhino. I think the card has good synergy with Purphoros and Athreos as well as just being an absolute powerhouse on it's own. Heliod seems like a possible cut from the deck also, as vigilance isn't particularly backbreaking (especially when one of my creatures can't block). I think that the Utter Ends and the Mardu Charms are sufficient for removal.
A weakness for this deck that I see is to flying tokens. I'm entertaining Windstorm and Bile Blight for the Sideboard with a stronger preference toward Bile Blight.
yeah the deck is cheap right now, i anticipate Increasing savagery to hit about $3-5 that's why i bought 20 of them and a foil playset. I have 4 ponder's in the deck (the formatting made it look like i had 1, its 1 negate). I like gitaxian probe over think twice, but what would you pull out for the probes? Now that you mention the surgical extraction i may pull the 2 plummets and side 2 extractions. I'm a black player at heart and have all the good black cards already. This green blue style is really weird for me, but fun!
Thanks for the feedback! i have considered dropping a bird or elf but found that i was very exposed to having to sac my stalker. The mana dorks are not necessary for ramp but they really do help with blocking (which I dont want to do with my stalker) If plummet will be a dead card, do you have another sideboard suggestion? I guess the naturalize pulls double duty hitting the flying inkmoth guy and swords, and i can just block delver and pump to kill. Also, do you think gitaxian probe has a use here? (I love the card but don't know what i would drop for it.)
*I have tried to fix the deck layout to no avail, my apologies for the scattered nature of it.
This is my home brew creation, I have found it to be very effective against my friends legacy decks. My play group doesn't play much standard, so i used the standard gauntlet thread to tweak my deck to the best of my abilities. Any input is greatly appreciated as this deck will make it's standard debut on game day!
So the basic win condition is an Invisible Stalker with +1/+1 counters from increasing savagery. I can also win with counters on Birds and Delver. I use ponder for fixing Delver flips and deck smoothing in general. Birds and Elves are in there for color fixing and a little ramp, the main benefit is having extra creatures for chump blocking and to sac instead of the Stalker. Titanic Growth is mostly for blockign with a mana dork and tapping to buff for the kill, but can also be nice for a faster Stalker Kill.
When setting up my sideboard I looked to the net deck meta and noticed quite a bit of artifact issues in the form of swords and inkmoth nexus. The inkmoth nexus is the reason i run naturalize over Viridian Corruptors, also the surprise factor of killing a sword before damage is nice. Plummet seems to have an obviously abundant target in Delver and also the inkmoth nexus. mental Misstep for delver, probes, and other pesky 1 drops. Red green decks seem prevalent enough to warrant flashfreeze. The inclusion of negate is to get hard counters in creature light decks.
A fun trick with this deck is the 6 mana Increasing savagery flashback (costs 7) I play a snapcaster mage and recast it for 4 mana, surprise!
I have searched the internet and haven't found a deck like this, so please let me know if you foresee some tough match-ups and let me know of any sweet sideboard tech ideas. Thanks!
Cellar Door is begging to be broken with a mill deck. Now you can mill and put blockers onto the battlefield to stall the game. Maybe some sort of infinite combo will come out and let you mill and opponent in EDH. Perhaps with Rings of Brighthearth, Cabal Coffers, Deserted Temple, and Voltaic Key?
Well guys, thanks for the input! I sorted through tons of jank foils/rares etc that i don't use and scraped together enough store credit at ABU games to get an unlimited mox jet (and still have the beta birds for now). I don't play competitively, but will probably slide it into my Drana EDH deck (I know it isn't legal) and then I will just casually play it at my local game shop and watch the reactions, meanwhile acting as if nothing out of the ordinary happened. Should be fun! The mox i am getting is in played condition and i use good sleeves so i will get some use out of it. I may go the grim tutor/forcefield route if I sell the birds.
Yes my board would run those grave hate cards in the side. I have fun with that dredge deck that runs the 3 dredge lands as the only lands...Mind Funeral FTW!
Updated my decklist, dropping the cloister bridge nonsense and getting some rituals and remands in there. Thoughts on remand as a counter? It seems like a mini timewalk, slow them a turn and draw an extra cards (which can ping away at there deck with an erasure out)
UPDATE: I will probably also be selling a Mint Beta Birds of Paradise for $300 which puts me into unlimited mox range. So do I get Grim Tutor, Library, forcefield. Or a mox jet?
thanks for the suggestions. I think I will keep it blue/black. I own 2 Jace, Memory Adept and 1 JtMS. Should I grab a Beleren and run 1 of each? I see your point with the Prosperity and like the brainstorm JtMS thought. What do you think of the Visions of Beyond? Also does the ensnaring bridge/ bottled cloister combo seem worth the sacrifice of counters? I have a set of Null Brooch which could help with some countering without a hand.
So I am selling some cards I don't want to a card store online (taking the trade bonus) including the bonus I will have about $290 in credit. I am considering a grim tutor and an unlimited forcefield for EDH fun in my Drana deck. Or I could get a played-slightly played Library of Alexandria. The Library would be more of a collector piece because I can't use it in EDH and I don't play big tourneys. Or should I just grab the cash and run? Buy booster boxes? Thoughts? Thanks!
I have been working on a mill deck that abuses Jace's Erasure and Prosperity ie. have 2 erasure's out and Prosperity for 5 (I draw 5, they draw 5, mill 10 losing 15 cards from library)
I use the typical Glimpse, Mind Funeral, and Archive Trap, but add in the efficient draw spells to abuse Jace's Erasure (even if it doesn't get up and running the draws are great!) Sadistic Sacrament is for pulling Eldrazi or kicking to remove lands to finish with a Mind Funeral.
I use the ensnaring bridge, Bottled cloister combo (makes hand size 0 so opponent can't attack, also why I don't run counterspells) Bottled Cloister also serves as a 1-sided howling mine.
I am looking for feedback on changes to make etc. I don't need to hear the "mill will never be viable" comments.
