Am I crazy to think that removal could be pushed harder if they simple brought back Protection? I realize they love the simplicity of Indestructible, but the conditional nature of Protection would seem to help the metagame far more in terms of a more open field of spell offerings.
I've been coming here for a long, long time, since the previous site. Been an age since I posted. Used to actually write for the magazines back in the day. Perhaps I'm missing something or ignorant, but is there a reason one of the most highly trafficked websites about MTG, MTG Salvation, doesn't get a preview card? I thought it did once or twice, and its been a long time since RE had the issue, so I'm just wondering why this site doesn't get that love?
I'm most disappointed by the fact that we had a whole block with Djinns and Efreets yet we had not a single Legend among them. Magic's gone its entire history without a legendary Djinn or Efreet, and there are tons of them. Why does every other major "species" get multiple legends, and these two still have not a one?
I saw RK POST day after prerelease in person, and asked him if he had anything coming in the next sets, just if had work coming out for the game without specifics. He showed me the card on his phone. So yeah, it is real. I got the impression there were a number made, but he never said anything, legitimately, about that. Just showed me the card...very in flavor for the set.
Actually I think White, in the long run, has gotten shafted some what as well, but in terms of Green, perhaps shifting over control creature effects? Sounds crazy... but does blue need that so much? No, and it circumvents Green's need to destroy creatures, plus it somewhat makes up for the "lack" of good creatures, no? Thematically, if we look at previous cards, it makes sense as well. Lure, Enchantresses, Dryads--- all creatures/effects that generally beguile. Also, by making such spells auras, you slightly fuel enchantress, to whatever level that would be; also, Greater Good. Perhaps remake legacy's allure in green or, hell, be insane and remake Treachery that only untaps forests. Even if it only shares the ability, it would, in creature based games, at least make green more than just about green beats.
The cool thing actually is the art in that its a direct picture reference to Virgil and
Dante in The Divine Comedy part 1: Inferno. The new one looks like some Lovecraftian thing... but hey that can work too. The original art isnt too stunning, but I still love the "Legends" thematics of it.
