The wording is kind of confusing. Rebound says 'If you play this card from your hand' so I'm guessing since it's a copy and not an actual card rebound doesn't apply. But don't quote me on it.

I don't care what you say, I'm quoting you! =P

Anyway, you're correct. The copy has rebound, but the rebound doesn't trigger - just like the second time you cast the staggershock it still has rebound, but the rebound doesn't trigger

Although I could see dropping stags instead of burst.

Staggershock is always 4 damage for 1 card.
Staggershock has the possibility of a 2-for-1.
Staggershock doesn't require 5 mana to deal 4 to the dome.
    Staggerschock >>>>>>>>>>>>> Burst Lightning.

If you interact with his fragile ramp, yes, otherwise he can be sitting on five lands at the end of his second turn.

Which would be more than slightly annoying.

    Right...
but like you said the ramp is fragile.
It might when a couple of games when opponents can't interact, and it will be fine against decks which have 0 interaction, but it's not good enough to get very far in a tournament barring incredible luck.
Then again, incredible luck can make a relentless rats deck win (your opponents never get past 2 lands or 2 nonlands in every game will make it win...)

People say 4 mana because when they flash in Deciever at your EOT, they tap one of your lands. If you only kept 3 open, you now have 2 for their turn.

    Right, didn't think about that...
Still, I don't think it's unreasonable to have it up.

Sullivan has said to me, and I quote

"I think Chandra's Phoenix is the real deal."

Are you friends with Sullivan or what?

Strictly worse than Pyromancer. Can only hit players.

    It's not strictly worse.
Strictly worse means 'worse in every situation' (barring outlying, convoluted board states).
Costing 2 less mana means it's not strictly worse.

I'd argue that it's better since it comes down on turn 1.
    It's basically a 1/1 unblockable creature.
Probably not good enough to see serious play though.
Might seem marginal play in goblins post rotation if INN gives no one drops to goblins.

Let me know how that works out for you when the valakut player ramps into a t3 titan because you decided to let him keep birds on the field.

    Ummm...

    1) I haven't seen a good build playing birds yet

    2) If they play a birds T1 I can kill it on my T2 before it threatens a titan (i.e. I don't need a 1-mana burn spell to deal with it), preferably with Searing Blaze

    3) I'd rather deal with the Battlement that they likely played to ramp into it with my dismember, if they didn't play it... I can dismember the bird

    4) Don't plan on them having a god hand, plan on them having an average hand while knowing how to deal with the god hand

I've heard plenty of people bringing up exactly how act beats splinter twin, but I still haven't actually heard of it happening in a real game.

Probably because keeping four mana open doesn't happen very often.

You only need to keep three mana up.

Good players don't play anything until the opponents endstep except when they're playing creatures (or when the burn spell wins the game, but then... you've won the game). If they're comboing on turn 4 you're probably screwed anyway, and after that you should have three mana up. Obviously this is applying to burn decks, not goblins or kuldotha red.

When do you normally hear an outpouring of personal testaments of a play? It's not like people rush to say "Look, I made this play that we had already discussed three weeks ago, I'm so smart duurrrh". Rolleyes

Chandra's Phoenix returns to your hand, not to play.

Wow... I either misread the card or misremembered the card.
Either way, I'm a lot less impressed with it now, and seriously doubt I will play it before rotation. :/

I'm not so comfortable with the idea of dropping one of our ways to interact with somebody's turn 1 play.

If you're interacting with the turn 1 play instead of bashing with a guide or playing a shrine, you're doing it wrong.

I like Chandra's Phoenix, but I'm not 100% sure if it belongs before INN comes in (say that out loud, it's fun XD).

Anyways, I've been less and less impressed with Koth recently, and I think the Phoenix could be a good replacement (providing marginal lategame power for a cheaper mana cost, allowing me to cut down on lands like I want to).

Burst is definitely a very useful card, but its time in RDW is probably over with M12. There are just too many quality burn spells to be able to justify a shock that does 4 when you're pressed for damage.

If it hits for 4 to the dome, it's doing just as much as a kicked staggershock for less mana. The ability to 2 for 1 is amazing against the decks it's relevant against, and it's a flame javalin at worst against the decks it's not. A lot of the time I find myself staggershocking a wall after it blocks and then hitting for 2 to the dome, making it a bad searing blaze (which is an amazing card, so a bad version of it is still really good).

A lot of people are too afraid of their shrines being blown up, which costs them games. By all means, don't thoughtlessly tap out against a green or white deck, but at the same time don't let it paralyze you into inaction.

    Staggershock >>>>>>> Burst Lightning

You almost always want to sacrifice him immediately, but don't discount the possibility of keeping him.

For example, I just played a game against an R/G deck that didn't shoot him the first time he tried to connect when I had a second teetering peaks in hand (played the first one turn 2, the scamp turn 1). I had no other creatures in hand and I wanted value from the peaks, and I had seen Obstinate Baloth and Urabrask, the Hidden in previous games, so I knew that if I didn't kill him quickly I would be in trouble. As it turned out, my opponent got stuck on two land, but since he didn't shoot him the first time and I wanted to kill him ASAP so I decided to be a little bit greedier than I normally would be.

I understand that Act can win a game against Splinter Twin players, but if that player is bad enough to play into a scenario where Act beat them I think you should win anyway.

You mean... trying to combo off? Because that's when act beats them, when you try to combo off and you act in response...
