Any recs for me? Favorites include Jinrui wa Suitai Shima*****a, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Mononoke, Mushishi, Haibane Renmei, Tatami Galaxy, House of Five Leaves, Bakemonogatari and Berserk.
I liked Lords of Waterdeep a lot for a bit but it kinda lacks replay value. I wish they differentiated the lords a bit more.
Haven't played anything new for a while now except for Caverna, which I got my brother for Christmas since he loves Agricola. I think I liked it a bit more than Agricola but still not that much.
Speaking of the Void, recently been having blast playing Rek'Sai. Some people say she can be tried as an AP shooter with her burrowed Q, but I think playing her as a normal AD is just as fun. The way I play her reminds me a lot to Volibear.... maybe I'm not alone in this?
Even before they nerfed it she was terrible as AP. It was basically a *****ty AP nidalee because ALL you can do is poke and run away.
Speaking of AD, just a random question: When playing ADC, what's your favorite item? I always, always get Blade of the Ruined King ASAP whenever I play ADC. Because for me, BotRK is just perfect as it provides three things my ADCs love: bonus attack speed, life drain, AND bonus damage, in addition to its activatable ability which allows gap closing as long as you're, uh, close enough. But I believe BotRK is not your must-have all the time, right? Or not?
Right, there are a lot of ADs that should never rush it and a lot of teamcomps against which I'd say you probably shouldn't build it at all. But it is a good item and sometimes rushing it is good (or always rushing it if you're vayne).
I really like the new BT because it's a fantastic luxury item and finally other people are starting to realize this. You're seeing pros build it after a few other items now which is what I've always thought it's good for. It's just a bit too lacking in damage stats to be good early unless you desperately need the survivability but once you already have damage it does a lot.
I also like the new ghostblade a lot because if you compare it with active up to PD or shiv it's very powerful and is the only one that has armor penetration, that realization lead me to consider it integral to a Varus build (my favorite ADC). It actually helps his Q a lot, it shores up his mobility issues, it's very powerful in those common teamfights where you actually only auto for a few seconds and it's good for bursting people when you make a pick with ult.
And also, now with Atma's Impaler gone, how much worth it for non-Vladimir champs to build HP tank? Ok, Garen and Mundo would still love the bonus HP since their passive depends on them, but the rest?
Atma's isn't at all what made healthstacking good, even on champs that would occasionally build atmas (which was rare after like s2) it was a decision you'd make long after you got a lot of health, and for most champs at that point you don't really care to build non-tank stats anymore; generally on tanks damage stats are good for exploiting an advantage in lane or splitpushing and nothing really else. Getting harder to kill is better for teamfights and you usually are deep into itemizing for those before you had enough hp to make atma's worth it in raw stats, and that's assuming you were a tanky champion that used crit well (garen is the only one that comes to mind).
There was a time a while ago before it was nerfed and also during which a lot of champions built warmog's and/or stacked heart of gold - either of which alone were enough HP to make it a good item. So there were more sufficiently tanky people who liked crit enough back then.
Healthstacking in general is pretty good right now and almost all of the good tank items have HP on them, but more importantly almost all of the good tanks have something that synergizes immensely with it. Maokai has ult, Sion has W and Mundo has ult and that's largely why those are the meta mega tanks right now. Well, not so much Mundo but mostly because those other 2 exist and have more cc.
Don't forget the fact that it's very common. Exacerbates the "cop-out factor".
But yes, it can be a hamfisted way to try to force a character arc. Villians can generally be expected to have strong convictions - not only because it makes them more compelling characters but also because their views naturally tend to run counter to the average character and social system they interact with. So to have them simply be shaken by talking to one character, hearing things they've likely heard before... yea, you need a more full character arc than that.
I don't watch Korra and it can be done well but it often isn't. Darth Vader is an example where I'd say it was done pretty well. The character arc is largely what makes the fight scene and what follows so damn good.
I personally didn't find Dark Souls to live up to its difficulty hype. It was still super enjoyable, but not impossible as so many were claiming. The dogs in the dark segment (Tomb of Fallen Giants was it called?) was probably the worst. I'm sure everyone that has played that game remembers that segment vividly... Definitely a game that rewards patience.
Souls has never been hard, just unforgiving (and arguably only in DeS, since the average loss in progress at death goes down each game). If you have either awareness or perseverance it's not hard at all, they're actually pretty damn mechanically easy. Though obscure sometimes.
I'll also mention though that souls games are very easy to overlevel in if you don't hemorrhage souls, and a lot of people simply outleveled content really hard (and/or poisestacked) and basically played on easy mode.
You'll also see people hiring by personality/culture fit when the job market is saturated with workers. Noticed that a lot when I was looking the past few years.
I've only seen up to EP 9 of Psycho Pass 2 but I'm kinda split on it so far. I really don't like the way Sybil/Togane/second inspector lady are going but the way direction that Kamui is going might be interesting.

sometimes they might even convince someone to look at a thread he might otherwise not have, and post a technically on-topic though unrelated post
