I feel like MM2015 is just all the good stuff from the original and then a little more. I have 0 desire to buy old boxes if I come across them because all the chase stuff is in this set as well.

I am very surprised at the overlap. Especially after I was expecting no overlap.

It's probably because they realized the original Modern Masters didn't do what they want and make Modern more available to people trying to support their LGSs by only shopping at them for singles, because most LGSs ran out of modern staples from Modern Masters rather quickly and can't keep them in stock, the print run was just waaaay too small, especially compared to the explosion in demand.

So they are putting back in the chase cards in hopes of driving down prices and increasing the print run in hopes LGSs will be able to maintain stock a little bit longer. They then made a 'trade-off' of sorts, where by raising the MSRP, the LGS gets less of the profits from this, but has more difficulty over-charging for packs and creating customer complaints and tension between different LGSs competing for price and competing against online stores.

IMO, they should have gone with $5 MRSP and done an unlimited print-run along the lines of Conspiracy or a normal Standard set (if for a shorter time period), so that prices have a good chance of actually going down significantly on the mythics and chase rares.

FYI, your LGS will make much more per box on Modern Master 2015 at its $9.99 MSRP than they did on Modern Masters 1 at its $6.99 MSRP. The LGS in addition to Wizards reaps the benefit of the raised MSRP.

This is false. My LGS sold MM1 boosters for $12.50 CDN and will sell MM2 boosters for 12.50 CDN. They made more of a profit off of MM1 because it came at a lower cost to them.

This is true if you are considering the packs being sold at or near retail. MM1 had a retail of $6.99. Yes, if the market-price is going to be well over MSRP then it's the retailer reaping the rewards. If your LGS sold the original MM for $6.99 and was selling MM2 at $9.99, they would be making much more money on a MM2 box. That being said, MM1 was typically sold for between $170-200 by release (a tad over MSRP), and it looks like MM2 is starting to go for between $260-$280 (also a tad over MSRP). That would be a rough profit difference of $50-60 or so per box.

And yes, Wizards is making more money per pack because of the raised MSRP (which they absolutely should).

My store (Cataclysm Games) typically will allow buying and selling during one of the two following scenarios:

    A) If we don't have the card in stock and someone offers to sell/or trade for one.

    B) If it's $10 or less and part of a trade (ex- If two players are trading and are near finalizing but someone's a few bucks off).

We don't allow "backpack dealers" to just set up shop and go at it, but we have no problem with people occasionally buying or selling to other players in our store.

My store has started getting additional allocation numbers from distributors and it looks like we'll be getting a bit more than what we did with Modern Masters 1. We are getting a very good supply and are pre-selling all of our boxes at MSRP (holding back around 60 boxes for drafting and sealed events), and I don't think it'll be too hard to find them for that amount up to the release date. However, it doesn't look like Wizards will keep printing this product, and there may be a small wave 2 but that's it.

I would highly recommend buying your box(es) early though, as MM2015 will likely follow it's predecessor's path of shooting up in value over the following months.

Apparently, they also come in fatpacks.

They come in the Prerelease kits, Fat Packs, and Event Decks.
Are you talking about spindowns in general, or about dtk pre dices specifically? Because, if I'm not mistaken, fatpacks usually hold regular spindowns whereas prepacks sometimes come with "special" ones. Since those (dtk pre ones) are kind of special, I didn't expect to find them in fatpack too.

I am referring to DTK specifically. All three products (Fat Packs, Prerelease Kits, and Event Decks) come with the special spindowns.

I will do the community a favor and ignore this post. We've moved on, it is time you did as well.

On topic- I've heard that advanced stores will get 4-6 cases from a couple of owners, but some of the more rural advanced stores here are only getting two.

One of the store owners insisted that his distributor was trying to hoard product, not sure if I believe him yet.

The only thing we know for sure at this point is that Advanced Stores will get a guaranteed 5-6 cases and Advanced Plus will get 9-12 cases. No one knows yet how much regular distribution will be receiving so I wouldn't believe anything that store owner says at this point. If Advanced store owners are saying that they're only getting 2 cases, they are either lying or don't realize that they are at LEAST getting 5 cases.

My LGS has been offering preorders based on their allocation for Modern Masters 1. Yesterday they informed everyone who had preordered Modern Masters 2015 that some of them would be refunded and they stated they would not be taking future preorders. They received an email from WOTC stating that MM2015 was a limited print run with allocations based on their store level (Advanced, advanced+, etc).

Advanced receiving around 20 boxes with Advanced+ only receiving 40. This will be the only wave of product released. The email explained that MM will likely end up being an annual release and the goal is only to create an "exciting Limited environment and maintain a minimal amount of demand". Sounds like a cash grab that protects the secondary market.

I am not sure how "true" this information is as I received it second hand, but I thought I would share it with the community. If anyone else had heard similar things let us know.

I heavily, heavily doubt this information. The original Modern Masters was not even limited to that extent and this is going to be a print run at least 3 times that of the original. Not only did my store NOT receive that email, but all of my distributors are taking preorders for the set, meaning that it will be distributed like Modern Masters. If it were truly allocated based on store level, it would be distributed exclusively by WOTC just like Duel Decks: Anthology was (stores couldn't order from multiple distributors; they only received their allocated amount from one source).

As all of our distributors have started taking pre-order numbers for this set, I would have to say this information is false.

Modern Masters 2015 releases May 22nd, and Cataclysm Games in Roscoe, IL will be hosting a sealed tournament the Saturday after!

The entry fee is $75 and will include 1.5 packs per head in the prize pool (we are not charging more than MSRP for this event!). In addition to MM2015 prizes, we will also be giving out door prizes each round!

The tournament will be capped at 52 players, and we will be setting aside more than 16 booster boxes for this event.

This set is looking to be extremely spicy, and demand is going to be nuts. There is a very good chance that we will cap-out; the only way to guarantee your entry is to preregister and prepay. You can do so by calling 779-200-0600 or by stopping by the store.

The event will begin at 12:00pm sharp; registration will begin at 10:00am. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to 12:00pm as we will be starting on time.

Roscoe is located near Rockford, IL-- roughly 50 minutes south of Madison and 90 minutes north of Chicago.

We will also be fully stocked on Modern Masters 2015 singles, so please show up early if you need to buy cards. You can always call the store to reserve cards as well.

See all details and RSVP here -- https://www.facebook.com/events/1555188834731570/ (remember that you need to pre-register and pre-pay in order to guarantee your entry)

I can 100% guarantee it's not a certain amount per level of the store. I've heard of stores getting 2, and stores getting 40+. I can guarantee our amount we get is different each year, and we're an advanced plus store that's been around forever.

    Cheers

Core stores get 5 units, Advanced stores get 20 units, and Advanced+ stores get 30 units. No WPN retailer will get more or less than these numbers (unless they have multiple brick-and-mortar locations, and even then I'm not sure if they would actually get more).

This set is definitely more limited, at least up front for retail stores. We are still are getting plenty of boxes, but between all of our distributors, we're only getting roughly 35% of what we would get for a normal expansion set, and we normally get hundreds of boxes. I'm sure that there will be restocks as Wizards continues printing the set, but stores are not going to be able to get "normal" levels of inventory for this set, hence the higher prices.

MSRP on this product is $143.64. How is anything lower than that amount price gouging?

Sorry, I've just never been to any LGS that's ever charged me more than $100 on a box of product, and I buy min. 2 of every expansion since I don't remember when. If you're charging the full 3.99 x 36, then sure, that's fair, I guess, just not a place I'd shop. My mistake, however, calling it gouging, I genuinely thought every retailer did this, I've never seen it any other way.

I would say that's true in regards to a normal set (our standard price on a new set of MTG is $89.99), but this product is not a normal expansion, and allocations for stores are far stricter for this product than a normal set. To give an example, we are getting roughly 40-50% of this product compared to a normal set release. I'm not saying that this set is going to be extremely limited, but it's looking like it will be far more limited than a normal set of Magic, hence the slightly higher prices on boxes.
