Am I the only one that's mad that they printed this instead of a black or white ~ling.
This will see play though, Bant token/midrange might use it as a finisher, but I think it will really shine in URW and UB control. If this thing hits and sticks its going to be hell to try and deal with.
Also, possibly the best draft card spoiled yet. You can run him with multiple guilds, or even three color. I would hate to have to deal with this guy leading a battalion charge.
So this is what I've been brewing up to take to my FNM touney this week. I'm just wondering what everybody on here thinks. I took out the Arbor Elfs out because my curve is so low that I really dont need the extra ramp. I'm still working on the side board so Any help would be awesome!
So Tamiyo, the Moon Sage ulted, and now I have to deal with her emblem. My opponent has an Azorius Charm in hand. I'm playing aggro and attack. Can my opponent bounce all of my creatures back before damage is dealt?
This came up today, and I was just confused as to how the priority would work with attacking responding and the charms resolving.
I have pursuit of flight on a creature. I declare that that creature is attacking.
No my opponent said that I had to declare if i was going to give it flying during the declare attackers step, but I thought I was able to give it flying in response to when declares his block. And if the creature he is blocking with doesn't have flying that would make it an invalid block.
He was adamant that I had to give my creature flying during my declare attacker step, so I just wanted to check how this would go down.
The Dimir cards are SUPER overpowered. Instant speed nonfiltered discard, and mill seven for two at instant speed is insane. The dimir mage is also super op, instant speed, reusable memoriced? like holy crap dude. I would think something more along the lines of this:
Duskmantle Guildmage BU
Creature - Human Wizard
BU: Target creature becomes unblockable until end of turn
3BU: You may exile a card from your hard, if you do, search your library for a card with the same card type and put this card into your hand.
So what is your strategy here? Just stall until you have enough mana and heartless summonings out to cast all of you weakened dragons?
A fast aggro deck or a good control deck will mope you up with that. I'd suggest only having a couple of big dragons, and using them as your win con, and then trowing in some smaller stall creatures. Whether they be something cheap with defender or somethings with undying, but something so that your strategy isn't so linear.
Do we have conformation that they are all appearing separately though? I'm not saying this is likely, but i think it would be a lot more interesting than just cramming ten guilds in. The guilds would have just merged so they could still have their champions. Or possibly two champs for the wedge guilds.
OK, boys and girls. This is totally crazy and came to me as a random thought:
I'm wondering what wizards is going to do in the third set of RtR. They have five guilds in Return, and five guilds in Gatecrash. So what are they going to do in the third set?
Well in Alara we had five planes that were all combined of three colors...and in planechase we had five dragons that were made up of three colors. I think what's going to happen in between Gatecrash and Sinker is a merger of guilds.
The guilds all have other guilds that share colors, so if two guilds were to merge then they would have three colors into it:
Granted the names are probably not going to be like this, and the dragons won't be there. But it would give wizards something new to develop, and flavorwise it would be SO cool.
Golgari and Selesnya both have strong ties to the earth. Perhaps the conclave begins to include not only beings during life, but also beings after death, thus leading to their merger.
Imagine Azorius, the law givers, wanting to enforce their laws, through the military, the Boros guild. The Boros guild would be given new fervor, in that they are helping make the laws that they are now enforcing.
Orzhov and Rakdos would be a lot more interesting. Orzhov is a mafia like structure masked in a religion, while Rakdos' primary concern is the the glorification of gore and murder. Think of a mafia gone wild. They are doing what they want and using what ever means necessary.
Izzet and Gruul, oh man, here's one that you would think would never, EVER merge. Izzet, the mad scientists and Gruul, the nature loving clans. Well, riddle me this. How can the Gruul hope to survive, if they are no longer natures voice (now claimed by Selesnya and Simic and Golgari) and they are getting less and less land to live on as the city continues to develop. In order to survive they make a pack, with one Niv-Mizzet. Niv would probably have some grand scheme, maybe splicing the Gruul clans into his experiments, or something else. IDK but this one is one of the farther stretches, but i think that Wizards could come up with something awesome for it.
Dimir, the shadow dwellers, who deal with secret trafficking and Simic, the nature gone wrong experimenters. Now i think that simic and izzet would probably be more likely to merge, but that's not how my color chart mashed up. But this merger is also just as interesting. Perhaps the Simic guild has gone to far with its experimentation, and they need to root out some of their experiments gone wrong, so they enlist the Dimir guild to secretly eliminate the monstrosities. But it comes at a price, and now Simic is working for Dimir to find new ways for Dimir to go about its dark practices , especially with all the new guilds merging the Dimir are going to be even more on their toes to avoid detection.
I can't remember any card that made me fall in love with a set. But i do remember the card that made me fall in love with magic.
First booster pack i ever bought. My mother was there to get it for me, and the guy selling it was like "Your first one? Ok you get to pick it then. New players have a magic touch for picking good cards." I didn't believe him, but i got to pick a pack which was awesome for a ten year old kid!
I picked my pack, It was 7th edition. Nothing in the pack mattered besides the card a the very back. Foil Shivan Dragon. To this day remains my favorite card, and one of my most prized possessions. There's something magical about "The undisputed master of the mountains of Shiv."
So....i found out today that prelease stuff is happening tomorrow in my area, and i got to thinking.
Im not NEARLY as excited about mirrodin besieges as i was about scars. Or as much as i was bout any of the Zenikar sets.
So, im wondering what everyone else thinks?
How does Scars compare with Zendikar?
How does Mirrodin Besieged compare with Worldwake?
Now im asking this as a review of the ENTIRE SET. so i'd really rather not have the whole "JACE IS THE BEST, AND FORMAT SHIFTING," argument. Even though it's true, one card (while it may sell a set) does not make a set. Imagine if Jace had been printed in homelands....It'd still be a cruddy set.
I personally love the flavor of zendikar ALOT more than i like the flavor of the Scars block. That is probably due the fact that im a Johnny and love aggro style play...
But ya know just wonder what everyone else thinks.
Baneslayer means auto white in almost any pool, at least a splash. It wins games. Frost titan means auto blue for the same reasons, it wins games. Just from those two cards i woulda gone U/W, even if you have Chandra, she doesn't always win the game.

The other ones are much more believable.

Boros (RW) + Azorius (WU) = Azoros (RWU) ala Numot, the Devastator
Orzhov (WB) + Rakdos (BR) = Orzhos (WBR) ala Oros, the Avenge
Izzet (UR) + Gruul (RG) = Gruic (URG) ala Intet, the Dreamer
Simic (GU) + Dimir (UB) = Simir (GUB) ala Vorosh, the Hunter

Off the top of my head though i'd say Boros landfall would be funny. Arid mesa, steppe lynx, and plated geopede. Plus burn and removal.
