  • posted a message on Why RWU decks are called "American"?
I like to call it USA control, not that it matters. Last month I played a GWR standard midrange deck, that I called the Mexican taco. I don't like using "Naya" and I couldn't think of a good name with Italy or Portugal.... so taco it was!
So you ask why american? Who knows?... The original idea was probably designed by an american. There are MANY more american players than any other country. But it may have been made by some guy in Pakistan who is pissed of at the Americans in his country. Who knows and who really cares?
Play the deck. Have fun with the game. If you become a superawesome MTG player you can name the deck whatever you want and people will probably copy you.

I agree with you sneak... There are also buyers who are just trying to get a deal on cards , turn around and make a quick buck or two of it.... which totally sucks. I've been hosed on non-updated threads too, I know what its like.
I took a look at your thread, your prices aren't too crazy and no.... I didn't write you down on my list Smile But, I don't understand why you would list a card higher than tcgplayer average and more than 5.00 higher than the tcg player low... Just doesn't make sense to me. I don't think you will ever get an offer on it. (that particular card anyway)
I haven't sold in awhile but, when I bump my sales thread all cards are lower than the tcgplayer low. If its not they just wont sell. Maybe people just don't want to part with their cards unless they get what they value it at. That is the funny thing about collectors.

Speculation is a *****, isnt it?

Thanks for all the comments and feedback guys. It looks like a lot of people agree about the prices lately on the forums. There are still many people offering fair prices for cards and I'll keep checking back to buy cards from you.

And I agree, speculation has caused prices to get way out of hand, Voice is a great example. But that's the entire market today... its almost like the stock market game on a different level.

What I get peeved about are the threads that are titled "...Blowout prices..." or "...Need to get rid of these ASAP..." or "...Rockbottom prices, today only..."
Most of the time these guys have a low rating (probably because they don't get many offers) and have 3-4 pages of "BUMP" and nothing else.

For example, I logged on this morning to see if I could find anything I'd play with and there were a few threads I looked at. Without calling anyone out I'd like to summarize what I've found:
Thread #1 - Selling Watery Grave 3.00 higher than online store price. Offering credit on Watery grave at 0.50 less than online store cash price. Rancor 0.50 cents higher than online store... okay I'm done looking.
Thread #2 - Pact of Negation 3.00 more than online store, Ral Zarek 1.00 more than online store... MUST pay 3.50 in shipping charges to US address... done looking here too.

Most other prices were fair to mid but I didn't really find anything else I was interested in. I have a good 20 cards or so in mind that I'd like play that I'm looking for. (not including dual lands, guys.. I know what some of you are thinking). There was a time where I could log into here find those cards and buy them from people who have honest prices that just want to help people like me in this community and maybe make a buck or two. Now it seems to be different ....How long do I want to keep wading thru these forums to find them all at decent prices? Is it worth the time?

The answer is no, its not! After I'm done writing this here, I'm going over to one of my favorite online stores and grabbing all of these cards from one place, nice and quick and I'll have them by next weekend to play with.

But I don't want to leave the forums for good so I started a list. Every time I see a thread with crazy prices, I'm adding the sellers name to this list. In the future, I'm not even going to waste the time clicking on their thread to open it.

They reprinted shocks. I'm certain they will be printing fetches again.

Is it me or are people listing their cards way too high. I've been noticing a trend lately. Prices on this forum have gone from best deal anywhere to ...close to online stores... to.... just now I spotted a new MM card listed at twice the cost as I found it for on TCGplayer.

Don't get me wrong, there are still a bunch of great sellers on this forum but, I've been finding myself more and more lately just going to online stores because its easier than trying to browse for the cards I'm looking for while wading thru the crap pricing. More than half the sellers on here are just crazy.

What do you guys think? Am I missing something?

So... I've found it hard to get people to part with their art for money if it's not already for sale somewhere like eBay. Would there be any interest in starting a trade thread for original art? I have 9 pieces that someone else migh really really want and there are some pieces out there that I'm looking for that I would trade what I currently have for. Just an idea... Let me know what you guys think.

Okay, I have to ask... Is anyone willing to part with any of their art? I have one hole on my wall and I'm saving it for a piece that was used in the original set (unlimited / revised).if you have something that you would be willing to sell, please let me know. I passed up on one a few months ago and I've been kicking myself ever since.

so what was the final result?

OK so, to get the update they all came back and look totally awesome! I would definately go with framing with the card. These are the ones I currently own:

    Caves of Koilos
    Viashino Sandstalker
    Noggle Bridgebreaker
    Plains (onslaught)
    Forest (onslaught)
    Madblind Mountain
    Phyrexian Furnace
2 from Bloodwars (old card game I was into)

    On its way:
    Watery Grave

I have 8 pieces of art. Two of them have been in frames on my wall for about 12 years. Everyone that comes over to my house and sees them says "Ohh heya cool.... whats that?" Then I have a bunch of other questions followed by a story I have to tell after that. For the really inquisitive guest I have to actually go to my collection and pull the card out for them to look at. This can be a PITA.

Most of the art you can find is standard size or at least close enough where a 5 dollar frame from target would work. If your looking to just frame the art, something like this would do just fine.

Today I decided to have all of my art professionally framed with the card next to it. This will involve a customed sized frame, custom matting with multiple holes cut (each cut costs more $$). When I'm done I'm looking at a few hundred dollars to do this. But I think it will look nice to finally have the card next to it. It has really bothered me NOT to have it there. I think it will actually add to the card rather than take away from it.

Many times when you see a piece of art in a gallery that was published, it will have the a copy of the publishing next to it. Together they kind of tell a story.

It's totally up to you what you'd like to do. If cost is an issue, then leave the card out and see what you can do. If not, I'd actually go against what many people are saying here and say, pay the money and have it framed with the card next to it.

You never know tho.... I might get them all back next week and totally hate it, haha. I guess we'll see. Smile

Thanks for all the feedback... but still no answer. I'm thinking that maybe they didn't release it yet. I think I remember gettin Sinkhole sometime this year and that was a G10.

I like this site... never seen this one yet but yeah, its not completely accurate either.
For my promo collection I go by: http://ark42.com/mtg/pricelist.php?p=0

I have a nice excel spreadsheet I've compiled with all of the English promos ever released by Wotc. I've tried to gather info from all sorts of places, and I've almost put a collection together of every English promo printed. Maybe I can post that file somewhere to help anyone else trying to collect these promos. I might be missing something and we can all help fill it in but, like I said, its the most accurate file I know.
