Hello, I'm currently in school and work FT during the week, with the lone exception of Tuesday night. I have a car and can drive out of NYC but in General I was wondering if people knew of Legacy tournaments occurring in the area on the weekends. Thanks in advance.
Format: Sealed Entry: $25
Select packs from the Standard Block to construct your Deck (2 packs of Born of the Gods with 4 packs chosen from Theros, M14, DM, GC and RTR)
With such a large cardpool to play against, is it better to pick packs that aren't Theros? I really don't know where to begin here - I played for a long time but took a hiatus the last 2 years, so none of these sets are familiar to me. I've done some BTT drafts to familiarize myself with the cards. I appreciate any incite.
Has anyone tested him yet? If you have, what do you think? One of my friends will be testing it. I'll let you know in a few weeks how it goes. My gut tells me he isn't worth it. I could be (and possibly I am) totally wrong. The main problem I see is that you need to keep counters in hand to protect him till he can attack. Iona just always seems like a better option in every case.
The problem is the fact that he can be destroyed by spot removal. Other cards in Reanimator that can be destroyed by spot removal usually have ETB effects (terrastadon, angel of despair) or are specifically used in a place where spot removal is not likely to be seen (blazing archon is one example).
I feel like the reanimator list is too tight to throw any eldrazi in. Whenever you're thinking about a new fatty, ask yourself:
You cast the spell, so you can choose to pay additional costs. Entwine is an additional cost, so you can pay for the Entwine. (Note that the clause "to cast without its mana cost" does NOT waive the Entwine cost, though.)
So I can pay the Entwine cost, but only by actually paying 4 (as opposed to getting it for free with Knowledge Exploitation)?
It seems like the only rulings questions i have these days are EDH questions. Thanks again.
I used to have a pretty bad cardpool because I'm poor, and so I built the best I could with what I had, Mono-W soldiers. I t was budget and I top 8'd every week and I went up against this guy who's running jund. I beat him 2-0 and he flips out. He said that because he had a pretty much carbon copy of jund he should never lose especially to some jank white weenie deck.
Smile and take solace that you don't act like a child when you lose.
I have recently come into a Mana Drain (and some other stuff, check out my trade thread) which someone would like me to post scans of.
Is the basic process this? - This may be a stupid question
1. Find a scanner
2. Scan the cards
If so do I need to be concerned about certain scanners (with light damage)?
Should I have a certain color backround to the scan? Or is just scanning them on a flat (white) backround ok?
Can I use a camera instead, or is this frowned upon?
Should I put the card in sleeves, a top loader, or nothing?
I realize this may be an obvious question but I have no interest in damaging my mana drain or insulting someone by sending them photos from a camera when I shouldn't.
I've had great experiences with Craigslist (Granted, this is the Rochester, NY area), but everyone's craigslist is different.
I've gotten:
For USD 100: Mana Drain, Ali from Cairo, 8 Duals, about 30 other cards valued above 10 bucks.
For USD 50: 4x Bitterblossom, 4x of three types of the filter lands, mistbind clique, extirpate...I could go on.
What I look for (I've bought only two collections in the last 3 months):
- A natural, "I'm kinda tired of magic and need money" post. This is pretty easy to tell, just look for natural language. You do not want to be buying sets that are picked over. (edit: maybe you do. If so, i have like 4k commons I could sell you....)
- Someone who has been out of magic for a while (indicative of older cards, which are all i need at this point)
- Someone who is offering a low price. Some people will sell you a magic set with 2k cards in it, but after they've figured out face value.
This is most important: Check craigslist regularly if you're serious about buying sets. The more often you check, the more likely you are to be the first to respond.
And don't forget to ask questions : So this is your full set? Have you played with it lately? What kind of player were you (Johnny/Vorthos/Timmy/Spike)? - not that they may know what their psychographic is, but you can find out pretty quickly by talking about cool cards. If they like duals, they may be a spike. If they really want to keep their colossus of Sardia, well, let the timmy in them keep it. Remember, you're not trying to get every card ever collected, just trying to get GREAT VALUE on the cards you're buying.
This is an investment, make wise choices. Feel free to PM me with questions.

I paid about 6/each for mine

I knowledge exploitation my friends library, choosing promise of power. Can I pay the entwine cost, or no?

Usually this makes them madder.
Ok, so now that we've got that out of the way....

Thanks for the drops of knowledge,

Thanks, appreciated. I don't always see that stuff!
edit: Outside of Krosan Grip, I mean. Not a good thing to start a game without one.
