Storm/combo in my meta is getting out of hand. 13 people last night, and 7 of them were playing combo. Mostly UR storm, but also some Jeskai ascendency and Eggs in there too. I ended up 2-2 against Storm>Storm>Eggs>Storm. I thought 3 eidolon and 2 RIP would be enough to handle them, but I think I might have to skew my sideboarding a bit and add the 3 duress back in as well. It's been a very difficult meta to board against since I've been playing again.
You don't want to be flooded but you want to get to 5 mana in a decent time (cast/flashback of lingering souls at the top of the curve or actually having Vault as a useful land) 22 lands with no draw engine won't do that for you.
What makes you so high on bitterblossom? I see a lot of people that are down on it and am curious what you like about it or why uou think it is so strong? Just the virtual card advantage it can provide?
I know you weren't asking me, but personally I don't like bitterblossom, at least for the version of the deck I have built. It doesn't generate anything the turn it comes into play, and gives your opponent 2 turns to answer it basically for free - especially the GB abrupt decay decks - since you won't be hitting them with any of the tokens produced for an additional turn after you play it. Sure, it does provide some inevitability, but I think tokens plays the longer games fairly well anyway. Plus, no boost from honor of the pure (which I'd likely take out if I was playing BB anyway)
I am positive some people can make it work effectively, it is a rather powerful card. Just my thoughts.
if you wanted to play dark confidant in tokens, you could always replace spectral with midnight haunting. half the converted mana cost, instant speed, but you get 1 less dude. you could look at it like a very slightly worse procession, or like a ridiculously good raise the alarm.
Storm is pretty prevalent in my local meta and it kind of a tough matchup imo. I think Eidolon of Rhetoric might be a good sideboard inclusion or at least another option for the primer. I brought in 3 duress, 1 rest in peace, 3 kor firewalker (burn hasn't been showing in great numbers though) and was still combo'd out with lethal on the board. Eidolon might be better just because of the 4 toughness since it's not dying to a bolt by itself. I don't want to get in too heavy on storm hate though, since the rest of the meta is pretty well repersented.
I think with Bloodstained Mire as part of the 75 and a couple adjustments to the manabase, Mardu Charm is a shoe in. Disruption, surprise first strikers, and reach to finish all sound really good.
I think if you're going to add red you might as well play boros charm to protect your permanents or go to the dome with 4 damage.
Does Firewalker's ability not work for the copies of grapeshot? Forgive my stupid question, but I'm kind of rusty on a lot of rulings since I mainly played Kaijudo for the last year+
I'm surprised I don't see more Kor Firewalkers in the sideboard of other people's Tokens builds. Good against burn, good against storm, and really not bad against UR delver. Those are what I feel are 3 of the worst matchups for Tokens. Maybe not as good of a silver bullet as leyline, but also more effective and easier to cast if you don't get it in your opening hand.
Now that my rat rant is out of the way, I am mostly wondering why no one uses Bitterblossom? I run 7 one mana discards and liliana and tidehollow sculler so I rarely get comboed out, I feel like the inevitability of blossom fits right into a perfect middle ground of our two decks and doesn't hurt too badly to be played with dark confidant.
Probably because it gets no boost from Honor of the Pure? If you're playing a standard tokens build at least. I'm not sure why it's not played more since I'm new to this archetype, it seems like a good fit. If I played it I would want to have auriok champions in the main deck, but that's more because burn is prevalent in my local meta. I think if you want to use a black token generator pack rat is the way to go.
Brimaz and hero of bladehold seem interesting but it also feels like they give good targets for opponent's removal.
What's the consensus of possibly running ultimate price over dismember? I feel like most things I hit with dismember are mono colored anyway, with the exception being stuff like celestial colonnade. Sure, it costs one more, seems worth it.
My next upgrade will be a set of godless shrines. I don't know how badly this deck wants fetches right now. I don't want a lot of interference with suppression field in the board if I decide to keep it in there. Obviously a 4th thoughtsieze too. I'm also considering using midnight haunting simply for the instant speed (and it's a bit easier to cast than spectral procession)

recycling snapcasters and cliques is obviously good. this deck doesn't do much damage through attacking so I just feel like the card advantage you can gain with the ninja and added pressure put on with the 2 power over spellstutter might be pretty good. SSS makes the deck feel more controllish, where ninja makes it feel more tempo like the legacy deck does with goblin guide.
