As for an en-all villain I would love for somethign like the Eldrazi to take that role. A menacing, ancient power that an old powerful Planeswalker fears(Sorin). I would love for them to be intellegant yet heartless creatures that want nothing more then to destroy all life in the Multiverse. maybe when they are together they can Planeswalk? The difference could be(as to not belittle pwalkers) is that 1) there must be a group of them to walk and 2) They randomly walk to a plane, they cannot choose it like a walker.

I actually have a theory that Marit Lage (of Ice Age fame, with it's curse and wrath) was an Eldrazi stuck in the shard of worlds when it was cut of from the rest of the multiverse, and thus was not imprisoned with it's kindred on Zendikar (It got stuck in a glacier instead, lol).

There are several facts that support this theory:

    1. Eldrazi Monument. It grants flying and indestructability, something it shares with Marit Lage (check out Dark Depths).
    2. Marit Lage was described as a creature that was not a walker but was able to traverse the planes under its own power, something that is also said about the Eldrazi.
    3. Marit Lage's presence warped reality around it (check out Wrath of Marit Lage and Curse of Marit Lage), this is something Marit Lage shares with the Eldrazi as well as it obvious that the roil is caused by the Eldrazi struggling against their prison.
    4. Marit Lage is a massive threat to planewalkers (shown by it's 20/20 status), which again is something it shares with the Eldrazi.
    5. Marit Lage is pretty much an Elder Horror, while the Eldrazi are described as "things of nightmare", coincidence? I think not.

Conclusion: Marit Lage was an Eldrazi, and the Eldrazi race is the M:TG equivalent of Lovecraft's Great Old Ones. They are coming, and oh are they going to be pissed. ^^

While they might pop in, I think it'd be in really poor taste for the entire thing to suddenly take place there when the focus seems to have nothing to do with Zendikar.
If they do go to Zendikar at all, I would imagine it would be much like when Jace visited Grixis.

One thing for certain though, even if they DO go to Zendikar in CotCV, THEY WILL NOT HAVE NEW CARDS PRINTED. That is the entire point of the Planeswalkers novels, to seperate the characters from the sets.

Well, it is certainly possible for the veil to be part of the puzzle to the Eldrazi Cage, it would at the least explain the "shadow voices" in the webcomic.

Elves got one of the best boosts ever in Zendikar in the form of an Aura. Gigantiform to be precise. And here is why:

Gigantiform changes the creatures P/T to 8/8, it removes no other part of the creatures abilities. Put it on a Llanowar and the Llanowar can still tap for G. In addition it grants the elf Trample.

Smack it on an Elvish Archdruid, and the druid will be safely out of bolt/burn range. Add a few Vines of Vastwood for removal protection and you're set to go. ^^

.... WHAT!? First, we have NO indication that Ugin is/was a planeswalker or that he was involved in doing anything with the Eldrazi. Second, Bolas went by Sensei Ryu when he himself was a spirit in MADARA, not Kamigawa.
About the only thing we know for certain here is that Bolas DID go to Kamigawa.

I think you need to keep up with things.

Ugin is the spirit dragon that was part of the organization that imprisoned the Eldrazi. Hence "Eye of Ugin" being the important artifact that everyone is after. Savvy?

In my previous post I was speculating (wildly I might add) on the possibility that the plane of Kamigawa would generate a spirit double of someone who visited the plane or only of someone born/something made on the plane. As I pointed out it is unlikely that Ugin is Nicol's spirit double as Bolas was not born on the plane and only visited it, briefly. ^^

    Quote from Mike Ryan
Zendikar is a block set on a whole new plane, M10 is a coreset with no attachments to a certain plane. Big difference.

Also, IIRC, Jace is a post mending planeswalker, meaning that he possibly couldn't be one of Sorin's cohorts in keeping the Eldrazi locked away. Possibly Bolas or Ugin based on Sarkhan's presence. Who knows? Only time will tell.

But yes, I think Jace is coming back.

Ugin is a given since his name is associated with the artifact used as the locking mechanism for the Eldrazi prison (The Eye of Ugin). However, Bolas is highly unlikely given just how self-centered Nicol is. Bolas cares only about one thing, and that is Bolas.

It is likely that the third party is someone who has not yet been introduced, or even mentioned. The Eldrazi have been imprisoned for quite a while after all, several millenia at the least given that none of the natives of Zendikar have any memory of the "Titans", which pretty much eliminiates the rest of the neo-walkers, including the pre-mending ones.

It is even a likely possibility that the Eldrazi where imprisoned centuries before the phyrexian invasion, this particularly holds true if the theory that Marit Lage was an Eldrazi that somehow had avoided being trapped with his/her (what was Marit Lage's gender? Did it even have one?) kindred by virtue of being stuck in the shard, which means that the third walker had to be a very, very, very old walker. And given the changes the mending made, the only way this walker could even be around, is if it belonged to a species with a very long lifespan (such as a dragon like Ugin) or had pseudo-immortality already (such as a vampire like Sorin).

Thus, it is theoretically possible, that if the walker is still around, it belongs to one of the near immortal races of M:TG, anyone know which races that is?
Personally I'd like the third one to be an angelic walker, just because it would be cool. ^^

Has any one else considered that maybe The Spiritual double of Bolas that "check mated" him at the end of Alara might be Ugin? After all Bolas did go by sensei Ryu on Kamigawa, but now the alter ego might have a life of its own.

It is a distant possibilitiy, perhaps it is even what Shapeshifter's Marrow hinted at.

Since everything on Kamigawa has a spiritual double, it is possible that Ugin was Nicol Bolas', however, since Nicol is not native to Kamigawa, it is not likely, unless that if one spends enough time there, the plane itself generates the double. But this would mean that Nicol visited Kamigawa a very long time ago, since Ugin was one of the planeswalkers whom imprisoned the Eldrazi. Thus it is unlikely, but a remote possibility.

My ideas for the next block:

    - Artifact heavy
    - Perhaps a colorless vs. colors subtheme?
    - Maybe an all-artifact set?
    - The return of Affinity and (maybe) Fortify?
    - Neither Karn nor Yawgmoth will appear

Affinity is unlikely to return, but the rest is quite plausible.

Personally I believe that Morph will be making a return in the set (See Lumithread Field for the reason, both the art and flavor text screams Mirrodin, of course I am well aware that it is in no way a guarantee of the return of the mechanic, just likely), Fortifications is also a likely mechanic to return as it is the logical extention of the equipment mechanic introduced in the original Mirrodin block.

I'd actually had that thought as well, but it could go either way as far as the veil is concerned.

Anyways, it's actually in the blurb that Jace goes to help her. Jace going to Zendikar makes less sense than a piece of the book actually SAYING HE GOES TO HELP HER.

The mercurial necromancer Liliana Vess and psychic sorcerer Jace Beleren are back and ready to challenge the netherworld forces that threaten to tip the delicate balance between life and death.

Planeswalker Liliana Vess has been running from her past for too long. When it finally catches up with her, it is in the form of a demon asking for an interest payment on a favor granted in years past… as if her everlasting soul wasn’t enough in return for eternal youth.

If Liliana can retrieve a powerful magical artifact known as the Chain Veil, payment for services rendered can be forestalled. So, when she does find the Chain Veil, accidently crossing a barbarian planeswalker named Garruk Wildspeaker doesn’t seem to be such a big deal. She dons the Veil in order to defeat Garruk, but her victory comes at a price.

At first the Chain Veil seems to be the answer to all her problems, giving her power like none she’s ever felt and a confidence to take the fight to her demon debtors. But as the Veil slowly starts to take hold of her, it’s hard to tell if those voices in her head are her own, or the eldritch spirits of the Veil.

Meanwhile she’s being pursued by that barbarian, but now he’s really angry. Her old friend Jace Beleren is there to help, but even he may not be powerful enough to save Liliana from herself.
And straight from the Wizards product page
And you will know her by the trail of undead.

Liliana has been running from her past for too long. But the ancient and powerful Chain Veil seems to be the answer to all her problems. It will give her the power to get free from the demonic pact that drives her, even if it means killing every demon in the Multiverse.

As Liliana's enemies pile up, so do the complications. That cursed, barbarian planeswalker Garruk Wildspeaker, has tagged her as his numinous quarry. The power of the Veil has drawn the unsavory attention of the Dragon Nicol Bolas. And her old friend Jace Beleren is drawn into the middle. But as the Veil takes hold of her, it's hard to tell if those voices in her head are her own, or the eldritch spirits of the Veil.

Now it's a race to see who can get to Liliana first. For Jace, a friend in need might be a friend best avoided, but when the stakes are this high, friendship may be the only thing he has left.

Meh, time will tell if he will visit Zendikar. I think he probably will, likely for a short while (or maybe an extended period after the Liliana debacle), or he has visited the plane previously to the debacle before getting drawn into it to help out his friend, thus explaining why he was quoted on that blue counterspell.

That's not Jace. It's just somebody with a hood over their head. Hell, somebody else was speculating that that figure was Sarkahn earlier. As for the flavor text, I don't see it being indicative one way or another of Jace being in Zendikar. He certainly doesn't have anything to do with the other The Teeth of Akoum, which we also have the blurb for.

As for Jace's nature, I take it you haven't actually read Agents of Artifice, have you? He cares a lot about Lilianna, certainly more about her than a plane he has absolutely no attachment to.
At the end of the book, his entire goal becomes trying to find a way for Lilianna to get out of her deal. We see that he takes this so seriously, he even backtracks and takes over the Ravnica branch of the consortium after specifically stating that he wants nothing more to do with them.
So, no, I don't think it's not in his nature.

Looked like Jace to me. But then again, I only saw it for a brief period at the pre-release. So YMMV.

Anyway, I am still pretty certain that his curiosity has led him to Zendikar, if he was seriously interested in helping Liliana, he wouldn't have told Garruck where she was...

Which incidentally has lead me to another odd thought... After re-reading the webcomics, I realized that the "voices" in the tomb Liliana raids refered to being trapped in shadow... What if the "voices" are trapped Eldrazi?

Crazy Theory - The Veil is part of the Zendikaran lock to keep the Eldrazi trapped, specifically, it is the key to the lock.

Where is this stated? Because where he's headed isn't Zendikar. He's headed to help Lilianna.

Source was CotCV blurb on Amazon:

Oh, and to contribute to the discussion.... I'm a little torn about a new Sarkhan card. On the one hand, I dig the new Sarkhan, but on the other hand, I think Wizards needs to stop printing walkers in cycles and just go with what is relevant to the block at hand. I think it was either Brady or MaRo that wrote an article about how printing cycles raised people's expectations, and they got upset when a cycle wasn't released. People should be weened off the walker cycles before it gets too difficult to do it.

Actually Jace is in Zendikar, he just hasn't changed enought to warrant a new card. To be specific, he can be seen in the art of Summoning Trap and the flavor text of a specific counterspell variant (the one that creates an illusion token, the name escapes me at the moment, I apologize).
Jace is in Zendikar for one simple reason: Zendikar is a plane of ancient knowledge and secrets, and if there is one thing that Jace likes it is more knowledge. Going to help Liliana is not in his primary nature, he is blue, not white after all.

Well the point I was trying to make is that we could have another world where there is Asian style art, writing, and clothing that is not Kamigawa. Kamigawa was based on Japan and China. There is a lot more to Asia then just Japan and China. How about a Legend from Korea?
I haven't seen anything that suggests a link between Kamigawa and Zendikar. Yes Ulgin does seem to be a lung dragon, but that is it. Maybe Wizards just got sick of always putting western style dragons in all of there (non-Kamigawa) art.
I'm not against speculating, I just don't see why Ulgin is a Kamigawa style Spirit Dragon when we don't know if he has any link whatsoever with Kamigawa.

And I am not saying he is from Kamigawa, I am just saying that of the planes we know of that is his most likely origin place, and that it does make sense for a Kami spirit from that plane to have a spark as the spirits are "spiritual twins" of persons, animals, items, and places in that plane, and if Ugin was the spirit twin of a person or item from that plane that was able to traverse the planes under its own power then it would be logical for it's spirit twin (Ugin) to be able to do the same. where do i find the web comics

    On Magicthegathering.com of course. ^^

Specifically, you can find them here:

    http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Multiverse/planeswalkers.aspx?x=mtg/multiverse/webcomics/main

    Happy hunting. ^^

    Quote from SushiP
As for the Spirit Dragon thing, weren't there other Dragon Spirits in Kamigawa that sided with the Kami that we never got cards for? Perhaps Ugin was one of them and was exiled by the others for his treachery (I know , it's a stretch, anything is possible though).

There where five legendary dragon spirits and one legendary equipment that could turn into a dragon spirit that where given cards, five of them where the guardian spirits of places, while the sixth where the spirit of a weapon. Thus, logically speaking, it would make sense for there to have been other spirit dragons that originated on the plane of Kamigawa.

And again I have to point out that the flavor text and the mechanic of the card (as well as the art) do not need to be hinting at game mechanics like colorless spells that cost colored mana.

We are well aware of this, so you really have no need to keep pointing it out. We are simply speculating on a "What if" scenario, which is what speculation is for, no? ^^

    Quote from The Cursed
What I remember from the old storylines was that Phyrexia was an artificial plane and those planes were unstable. Because of this Yawgmoth wanted to return to his home plane before Phyrexia fell apart. Urza made note of this when in Serra's plane how all artificial planes were inherently unstable and would eventually explode.
Maybe that is the storyline here. Mirrodin was made by Karn and is such an artifical plane. Maybe the people on Mirrodin have seen this begin to happen and are now trying to get to a stable plane. This could led us to any number of planes we have been to before Kamigawa, Ravnica, or Dominiara (don't think I spelled that right). To the people on those planes anyone from Mirrodin would probably look like a Phyrexian (if people still remember Phyrexia). And who knows maybe after a long enough time trying to save themselves, the people of Mirrodin may become just like the invaders from Phyrexia and want to control the new plane they fled to.

The reason that (most) artificial planes are unstable is because they are inherently unbalanced in the mana department by their creators. Serras realm was pretty much pure white mana, while Phyrexia was predominantly black (with possibly some red and blue thrown in).

However, at least one known artificial plane besides mirrodin is stable: Bolas' Meditation Plane, it is at least ten millenia old as of Time Spiral, and in no way does it show signs of falling apart.

Personally I believe that Mirrodin is safe for one simple reason, it is mana balanced, Each of the five "suns" of Mirrodin provide one color of mana, and as of Fifth Dawn, they are in balance against each other. Thus theoretically Mirrodin can exist for an indefinte amount of time without ever showing signs of falling apart at the seams.

Oh did I already mention that I have a feeling that Garruk might be one of the walkers which have imprisoned the Eldrazi?
The guy on gigantiform looks somewhat similar imo (I dont say it is Garruk just that he looks familiar) and afaik we dont know yet if garruk was a pre-mending walker.

Would fit his attitude of hunting strong prey and connect to it, to be able to summon it etc. . Maybe the Eldrazi have been also some formidable hunting prey but to strong to be connected thus, for the thrill of the hunt and helping to secure the multiverse, he helped imprisoning them?

Garruk does seem Zendikaran... I would not be surprised if he was a pre-mending walker originally from Zendikar. At the least we know he has an intimate knowledge of the plane from his warning to Jace (whom incidentally appears on one of the trap cards, in the art of summoning trap staring down a Baloth, he is also in the flavor text of a counterspell variant).
