The biggest issue I've had with the Grixis deck is in UW and UB control, I've thought about playing more Surgicals, Memoricide. I'm even trying Volition Reins even though it seems like a large stretch on the mana base. The biggest issue I've had mainly comes down to one card: Karn Liberated. Being able to deal with that card will go a long way in that match up I believe.
I've been having moderate success against Thopter Combo and Control, Affinity and Zoo. Dark Depths is a little bit of an annoyance but with Trickbind, Repeal and Echoing Truth you should be able to play around their Chalices etc etc.
Any suggestions or should I drop the Gifts for a more suitable build?
Yeah I know the Goyfs are a cause for concern, but I honestly don't see myself getting rid of them, ever. I guess I shouldn't mention I have a foil playset of Pulses I was thinking of getting signed..
We were thinking along the likes of Kibler signing Goyfs Chapin signing Cruel Ults or Forces, I have Pulses I'd like to get signed by someone, Ram Rams and Chomp Chomps (w/e they're called) signed by Evan Erwin. Just don't ask Dave Williams to sign Accumulated Knowledges I have Ranger of Eos's that I'd like to get signed, but the Invitational cards we have the pros don't play much anymore; Budde, Pikula etc etc.
Me and my play group are planning on making the trip out to San Diego for the PT out there to see some pros play and just experience it all, public events, Wizards employees etc etc etc.
What stuff should we bring with us? Obv. decks and trade stuff but do pros sign cards as well? Any odds and ends that we might possibly need as well?
Taken from DailyMTG twitter feed: "Worldwake Intro Packs will not contain mythic rares. Well, Unless there's one in the booster pack that's included, but that's random."
Don't know if this is the right spot for it but I figured it'll get moved to the right place eventually if it hasnt already been reported.
Oh no, I know. I live in Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix. I play in Mesa, where pro and ex-SCG writer Adam Prosak plays. It's pretty competitive there but other then that I've heard of people having to drive 2 hours from Prescott to play at Gamers Inn. Just seems like I hear alot more about events elsewhere then I do here. But I guess that's just me.
I was having this discussion with a roommate today after States yesterday and we were wondering certain things.
Why is it that certain areas have more "high caliber" players then others? Like the southeast and mid west as opposed to the south east and north east?
Also, what are considered the "stronger" or more competitive states, as opposed to the "weaker" or less competitive states.
That Teneb, the Harvester in that article is the best way to describe the Blightnings that I'll be using, but regardless I'll be showing them to the Head Judge before Round 1 starts for States. That is if the cards are done by Friday night like my friends are saying they will be.
Anyways thanks for the answer however Woapalanne, and you'll know it's me when you see me asking the question. (obviously)
I'm getting ready for AZ States and I'm just wondering what the rules for modifying cards are.
Two artist friends of mine that I go to college with are wanting to get more practice in and offered to extend art of Blightning, and to modify some tokens, I know the tokens aren't really that big of an issue as long as their name/type and P/T are in the card somewhere but what about extending the art of a card?
